As envisioned by the IMS (Intelligent Manufacturing Systems), Next Generation Manufacturing Systems will satisfy
the needs of an increasingly fast-paced and demanding market by dynamically integrating systems from inside and
outside the manufacturing firm itself into a so-called extended enterprise. However, organizing these systems to ensure
the maximum flexibility and interoperability with those from other organizations is difficult. Additionally, a defect in
the system would have a great impact: it would affect not only its owner, but also its partners. For these reasons, we
argue that a service-oriented architecture (SOA) would be a good candidate. It should be designed following a
methodology where services play a central role, instead of being an implementation detail. In order for the architecture
to be reliable enough as a whole, the methodology will need to help find errors before they arise in a production
environment. In this paper we propose using SOA-specific testing techniques, compare some of the existing SOA
methodologies and outline several extensions upon one of them to integrate testing techniques
New records on distribution and nesting of white-throated hawk (<i>Buteo albigula</i>) in Argentine Patagonia
We present here new data on the distribution and on the density of nesting pairs of the White-throated Hawk (Buteo albigula) in Argentine Patagonia. We report 15 new records with date for this region. We found four nesting territories in an area of approximately 8500 ha on the outskirts of the city of San Carlos de Bariloche, Río Negro. All the nesting territories were within Nothofagus spp. forests. The species was recorded between September and April, confirming its migratory status
Preoperative insulin-like growth factor-binding protein-3 (IGFBP-3) blood level predicts gleason sum upgrading
In this study, we evaluated the ability of preoperative IGFBP-2, IGFBP-3, IL-6, and SIL-6R serum levels to predict Gleason score upgrade in 52 PCa patients
Predicting prostate biopsy outcome: Prostate health index (phi) and prostate cancer antigen 3 (PCA3) are useful biomarkers
Indication for prostate biopsy is presently mainly based on prostate-specific antigen (PSA) serum levels and digital-rectal examination (DRE). In view of the unsatisfactory accuracy of these two diagnostic exams, research has focused on novel markers to improve pre-biopsy prostate cancer detection, such as phi and PCA3. The purpose of this prospective study was to assess the diagnostic accuracy of phi and PCA3 for prostate cancer using biopsy as gold standard.
Phi index (Beckman coulter immunoassay), PCA3 score (Progensa PCA3 assay) and other established biomarkers (tPSA, fPSA and %fPSA) were assessed before a 18-core prostate biopsy in a group of 251 subjects at their first biopsy.
Values of %p2PSA and phi were significantly higher in patients with PCa compared with PCa-negative group (p<0.001) and also compared with high grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (HGPIN) (p<0.001). PCA3 score values were significantly higher in PCa compared with PCa-negative subjects ( p<0.001) and in HGPIN vs PCa-negative patients (p<0.001). ROC curve analysis showed that %p2PSA, phi and PCA3 are predictive of malignancy.
In conclusion, %p2PSA, phi and PCA3 may predict a diagnosis of PCa in men undergoing their first prostate biopsy. PCA3 score is more useful in discriminating between HGPIN and non-cancer. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved
The importance of myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol to support fertility and reproduction
This review details the physiologic roles of two insulin sensitizers, myo-inositol (MI) and D-chiro-inositol (DCI). In the human ovary, MI is a second messenger of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and DCI is an aromatase inhibitor. These activities allow a treatment for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) to be defined based on the combined administration of MI and DCI, where the best MI:DCI ratio is 40:1. In addition, MI plays a pivotal role in the physiology of reproduction, and has beneficial effects on the development of oocytes, spermatozoa, and embryos. By contrast, DCI has little effect on spermatozoa, but high concentrations in the ovary can negatively affect the quality of oocytes and the blastocyst. Overall, the evidence in the literature supports the beneficial effects of MI in both female and male reproduction, warranting clinical use of MI in assisted reproductive treatment (ART).Cette revue détaille les rôles physiologiques de deux sensibilisateurs à l'insuline, le myo-inositol (MI) et le D-chiro-inositol (DCI).
The two parallel biographies, the Syriac Life of Peter the Iberian, the Georgian prince who converted to Christianity, and the Life of Melania the Younger, the Roman patrician, have come down to us through a manuscript tradition and attest to the spread of monastic practices in Palestine around the 5th century. The texts allow us to investigate this phenomenon through the interpretation of selected passages which show how the common narrative of some certain significant events attests to the existence (and the fervent activity) of monastic circuits in Gaza, marked by particular lifestyles and guided by doctrinal choices. This inquiry, as well as providing important information on a certain kind of monasticism, offers the chance to make useful comparisons with the other forms of monasticism that enlivened the East in Late Antiquity
Measurement of the cosmic ray spectrum above eV using inclined events detected with the Pierre Auger Observatory
A measurement of the cosmic-ray spectrum for energies exceeding
eV is presented, which is based on the analysis of showers
with zenith angles greater than detected with the Pierre Auger
Observatory between 1 January 2004 and 31 December 2013. The measured spectrum
confirms a flux suppression at the highest energies. Above
eV, the "ankle", the flux can be described by a power law with
index followed by
a smooth suppression region. For the energy () at which the
spectral flux has fallen to one-half of its extrapolated value in the absence
of suppression, we find
eV.Comment: Replaced with published version. Added journal reference and DO
