    Construction of Non-Perturbative, Unitary Particle-Antiparticle Amplitudes for Finite Particle Number Scattering Formalisms

    Starting from a unitary, Lorentz invariant two-particle scattering amplitude , we show how to use an identification and replacement process to construct a unique, unitary particle-antiparticle amplitude. This process differs from conventional on-shell Mandelstam s,t,u crossing in that the input and constructed amplitudes can be off-diagonal and off-energy shell. Further, amplitudes are constructed using the invariant parameters which are appropriate to use as driving terms in the multi-particle, multichannel non-perturbative, cluster decomposable, relativistic scattering equations of the Faddeev-type integral equations recently presented by Alfred, Kwizera, Lindesay and Noyes. It is therefore anticipated that when so employed, the resulting multi-channel solutions will also be unitary. The process preserves the usual particle-antiparticle symmetries. To illustrate this process, we construct a J=0 scattering length model chosen for simplicity. We also exhibit a class of physical models which contain a finite quantum mass parameter and are Lorentz invariant. These are constructed to reduce in the appropriate limits, and with the proper choice of value and sign of the interaction parameter, to the asymptotic solution of the non-relativistic Coulomb problem, including the forward scattering singularity, the essential singularity in the phase, and the Bohr bound-state spectrum

    In given article the results of the research of application of cytoflavin in patients with a syndrome of diabetic foot complicated by trophic ulcers of the 1-2 degree according to Wagner classification are described. The main place is taken by the interpretation of clinical and laboratory and instrumental marks, such as stimulation of reparative processes and reduction middle time of restoration of skin at the ulcer defects areas of the foot of 1-2 degree, significantly expressed reduction middle marks of glycemic profile at the stages of the research, normalization of indices of lipid peroxidation (malondialdehyde and catalase) and redress the imbalance of patients' prooxidant-antioxidant system in the blood serum, improvement clinical and instrumental marks of blood flow, such as Doppler ultrasound of the arteries of the lower limbs, average linear velocity of blood flow (Vaver), peripheral resistance index (Ri), systolic-diastolic ratio (1SD) right after the taken therapy.     The COBE satellite, and the DMR experiment in particular, was extraordinarily successful. However, the DMR results were announced about 7 years ago, during which time a great deal more has been learned about anisotropies in the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB). The CMB experiments currently being designed and built, including long-duration balloons, interferometers, and two space missions, promise to address several fundamental cosmological issues.     Woodland in a fluvio-lacustrine environment on the dry Mongolian Plateau during the late Paleocene: Evidence from the mammal bearing Subeng section (Inner Mongolia, PR China)

    In the understanding of the global faunal turnover during the Paleocene-Eocene transition, an important role has been attributed to the Asian continent, although the Asian fossil record for this period is still incomplete. Here we present a multidisciplinary study of the Subeng section (Inner Mongolia, P.R. China), integrating sedimentological, stratigraphical and diverse palaeontological data, in order to reconstruct the palaeoenvironment and to enhance the understanding of the late Paleocene communities that once thrived on the Mongolian Plateau. The Subeng section starts with the Maastrichtian Iren Dabasu Formation directly covered by the late Paleocene Nomogen Formation. This Nomogen Formation is composed of typical lacustrine deposits at the base, covered by fluvio-lacustrine deposits at the top. Both types of deposits provided rich ostracod and charophyte assemblages, closest to those of the Naran Member, Naran Bulak Formation of Mongolia. Palynomorphs from the lake sediments suggest a local flora at Subeng more wooded and closed than reported from elsewhere in this region. The fluvio-lacustrine deposits of the Nomogen Formation have yielded a vertebrate fauna especially rich in mammals. The mammal fauna from Subeng is close to that from Bayan Ulan and typical for the Gashatan Asian Land Mammal Age. The presence of reworked pedogenic carbonate nodules and mud aggregates suggests an at least seasonally dry regional climate. Combined sedimentological and palaeontological data suggest the late Paleocene Nomogen Formation at Subeng was an isolated woodland in a fluvio-lacustrine environment, representing a locally humid environment on the semi-arid Mongolian Plateau. The mammal fauna reflects these differences and shows a number of relatives to mammals from the more humid northeastern Chinese biotic province as well as some North American immigrants. © 2006 Elsevier B.V.     Evolution of vacancy-related defects upon annealing of ion-implanted germanium

    Positron annihilation spectroscopy was used to study defects created during the ion implantation and annealing of Ge. Ge and Si ions with energies from 600 keV to 2 MeV were implanted at fluences between 1×10 exp 12 cm exp−2 and 4×10 exp 14 cm exp−2. Ion channeling measurements on as-implanted samples show considerable lattice damage at a fluence of 1×10 exp 13 cm exp −2 and a fluence of 1×10 exp 14 cm exp -2 was enough to amorphize the samples. Positron experiments reveal that the average free volume in as-irradiated samples is of divacancy size. Larger vacancy clusters are formed during regrowth of the damaged layers when the samples are annealed in the temperature range 200–400 °C. Evolution of the vacancy-related defects upon annealing depends noticeably on fluence of ion implantation and for the highest fluences also on ion species.Peer reviewe

    The Dynamics of Zeroth-Order Ultrasensitivity: A Critical Phenomenon in Cell Biology

    It is well known since the pioneering work of Goldbeter and Koshland [Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA, vol. 78, pp. 6840-6844 (1981)] that cellular phosphorylation- dephosphorylation cycle (PdPC), catalyzed by kinase and phosphatase under saturated condition with zeroth order enzyme kinetics, exhibits ultrasensitivity, sharp transition. We analyse the dynamics aspects of the zeroth order PdPC kinetics and show a critical slowdown akin to the phase transition in condensed matter physics. We demonstrate that an extremely simple, though somewhat mathematically "singular" model is a faithful representation of the ultrasentivity phenomenon. The simplified mathematical model will be valuable, as a component, in developing complex cellular signaling network theory as well as having a pedagogic value.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figure

    Recombination via transition metals in solar silicon : the significance of hydrogen-metal reactions and lattice sites of metal atoms

    The move towards lower cost sources of solar silicon has intensified efforts to investigate the possibilities of passivating or reducing the recombination activity caused by deep states associated with transition metals. This is particularly important for the case of the slow diffusing metals early in the periodic sequence which are not removed by conventional gettering. In this paper we examine reactions between hydrogen and transition metals and discuss the possibility of such reactions during cell processing. We analyse the case of hydrogenation of iron in p-type Si and show that FeH can form under non-equilibrium conditions. We consider the electrical activity of the slow diffusing metals Ti, V and Mo, how this is affected in the presence of hydrogen, and the stability of TM-H complexes formed. Finally we discuss recent experiments which indicate that resiting of some transition metals from the interstitial to substitutional site is possible in the presence of excess vacancies, leading to a reduction in recombination activity
