Efficiency of photodesorption of Rb atoms collected on polymer organic film in vapor-cell

The efficiency of photodesorption of Rb atoms previously collected on polymer organic film has been studied in detail. This study was carried out in a Pyrex glass cell of which the inner surface was covered with (poly)dimethylsiloxane (PDMS) film and illuminated by a powerful flash lamp. The desorption dynamic of the Rb atoms density in the cell caused by the illumination and percentage of desorbed atoms was studied by using of Rb resonance lamp and free running diode laser as sources of probing light. It was determined that 85 percent collected chemical active Rb atoms and stored during 16 seconds in the closed cell, 75 percent in the pumped cell can be desorbed by single flash of the lamp. The number of stored atoms decays with a characteristic time of 60 min in isolated cell and with a time 12.4 minutes in a pumped cell. We believe that this efficient method of collection and fast realization of atoms or molecules could be used for enhancement of sensitivity of existed sensors for the trace detection of various elements (including toxic or radioactive ones) which is important to environmental applications, medicine or in geology. The effect might help to construct an efficient light-driven atomic source for a magneto-optical trap in a case of extremely low vapor density or very weak flux of atoms, such as artificial radioactive alkali atoms.Comment: 9 pages, 9 figures; accepted for publication in EPJ

Experimental evidence of strong phonon scattering in isotopical disordered systems: The case of LiH_xD_{1-x} crystals

The observation of the local - mode vibration, the two - mode behavior of the LO phonons at large isotope concentration, as well as large line broadening in LIH - D mixed crystals directly evidence strong additional phonon scattering due to the isotope - induced disorder.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figure

Terahertz Radiation of a Low-inductance Discharge in Vacuum with Laser-plasma Initiation

    Get PDF
The results of the study of terahertz radiation, which is generated by the plasma of a low-inductance discharge with micropinchs, are presented in this paper. The discharge was initiated by focused radiation from a pulsed Nd:YAG laser (pulse duration is 10 ns, pulse energy is 0.8 J). The energy that was stored in the capacitor of the discharge system was ∼ 40 J. The principal role of micropinch for the generation of THz radiation was proposed. The oscillogram of the diode current was obtained to visualize the presence of micropinch plasma. The power of the THz source was calculated and an experimental study of the spectrum of this source was carried out

Current approach to diagnosis and treatment for liver failure (literature review)

Currently, the world is marked rise in the number of patients with liver disease. Approximately 100,000 patients hepatitis complicated by acute liver failure, with mortality in this disease reaches 70-90 % despite the use of modern methods of treatment Currently, there are more than 20 concepts of this disease. In 15-20 % of cases the cause of acute liver failure can not be established. Most clinicians believe that the pathogenesis of liver failure is a strong humoral and hyperimmune response, resulting in massive necrosis of liver cells. Diagnosis of liver failure based on anamnesis, clinical, biochemical and electroencephalographic changes. Traditional conservative therapy of acute liver failure in the first place based on the measures taken to address the etiological factor. Transplantation is an effective measure in acute liver failure. In the world there are a sufficient number of prognostic scales, criteria and risk factors of acute liver failure. Each of them has its own characteristics, but a unified system of prognostic estimation of arrester

In the article the results of complex treatment of acute pleural empyema in 123 patients are presented. In all cases we observed pleural empyema of nontraumatic character. Positive results of treatment of patients with this pathology are marked in patients whose complex of treatment included laser therapy

Porto-hepatic hemodynamics in patients with destructive pancreatitis combined with liver failure

Extraorgan complications of acute destructive pancreatitis are registered in 60-95 % of patients. Liver failure is registered in one of the four patients with pancreatic necrosis. We analyzed the results of surgical treatment of 122 patients with acute destructive pancreatitis. We studied clinical indicators of liver failure in 103 (84.4 %) patients with acute pancreatitis. The development of portal hypertension with decrease in hepatic volume perfusion is an important element in the pathogenesis of acute pancreatitis and associated liver function abnormalities. In patients with severe and moderate liver failure, the reduction of blood flow in portal vein was registered. It was caused by reduce of portal vein diameter and decrease in linear blood flow velocity. Destructive pancreatitis is accompanied by liver failure with hyperbilirubinemia, increased activity of cytolytic enzymes, incoordination in protein and carbohydrate metabolism as its common manifestations. An important factor in the pathogenesis of liver failure is a reduction of porto-hepatic hemodynamics and as a consequence - hepatic hypoperfusion

Lasing on the D_2 line of sodium in helium atmosphere due to optical pumping on the D_1 line (up-conversion)

    Get PDF
A new method is proposed to produce population inversion on transitions involving the ground state of atoms. The method is realized experimentally with sodium atoms. Lasing at the frequency corresponding to the sodium D_2 line is achieved in the presence of pump radiation resonant to the D_1 line with helium as a buffer gas.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, Late
