Connection Between the Carotid Plaque Instability and Paramagnetic Properties of the Intrinsic Mn2+ Ions
Β© 2016, Springer Science+Business Media New York. The pulsed W-band (the microwave frequency of 94Β GHz, magnetic field of 3.4Β T) electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) comparative studies of a series of 20 atherosclerotic plaques (AP) obtained during carotid endarterectomy in patients with atherosclerosis is presented. The AP stability was established by ultrasound angiography. In all of the obtained species EPR spectra due to the presence of Mn2+ ions in a crystal matrix of hydroxyapatites (HAp) is observed. The existence of HAp in plaque fragments is confirmed by X-ray diffraction analyses. The spectral parameters of Mn2+ are ascribed to two possible locations in the HAp constituent of the atherosclerotic plaques. The difference in the electronic relaxation times of T2e for Mn2+ ions in stable and unstable plaques is observed that can indicate the more homogeneous distribution of Mn2+ in stable plaques as compared to unstable species. The results can be potentially used for the understanding the mechanisms of pathological calcifications and AP stability
High resolution infrared absorption spectra, crystal field, and relaxation processes in CsCdBr_3:Pr^3+
High resolution low-temperature absorption spectra of 0.2% Pr^3+ doped
CsCdBr_3 were measured in the spectral region 2000--7000 cm-1. Positions and
widths of the crystal field levels within the 3H5, 3H4, 3F2, and 3F3 multiplets
of the Pr^3+ main center have been determined. Hyperfine structure of several
spectral lines has been found. Crystal field calculations were carried out in
the framework of the semiphenomenological exchange charge model (ECM).
Parameters of the ECM were determined by fitting to the measured total
splittings of the 3H4 and 3H6 multiplets and to the observed in this work
hyperfine splittings of the crystal field levels. One- and two-phonon
relaxation rates were calculated using the phonon Green's functions of the
perfect (CsCdBr_3) and locally perturbed (impurity dimer centers in
CsCdBr_3:Pr^3+) crystal lattice. Comparison with the measured linewidths
confirmed an essential redistribution of the phonon density of states in
CsCdBr_3 crystals doped with rare-earth ions.Comment: 16 pages, 5 tables, 3 figure
Course of COVID-19 in Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease: Regional Experience
Aim: to study the course of COVID-19 in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) using the example of the region of the Republic of Tatarstan.Material and methods. The study included 101 patients diagnosed with IBD and COVID-19, who were observed in two infectious diseases hospitals in Kazan (Republican Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Tatarstan and City Clinical Hospital No. 7) and on an outpatient basis from April 2020 to March 2022. All patients underwent physical examination, laboratory and instrumental diagnostic methods, including a PCR test for SARSCoV-2. Chest computed tomography was performed in patients with clinical signs of moderate to severe COVID-19.Results. Ulcerative colitis (UC) was diagnosed in 60 (59.4 %) patients, Crohn's disease (CD) β in 41 (40.6 %) patients. The mean age of the patients was 41.0 Β± 14.7 years, of which 59 (58.4 %) were men and 42 (41.6 %) were women. A comparative analysis of patients with and without IBD and CT-verified lung disease was carried out. It was found that the development of viral pneumonia was influenced by age over 55 years (39.2 Β± 9.7 vs. 46.3 Β± 10.6, p < 0.05), increased Body Mass Index (BMI) (23.1 Β± 5.35 vs. 30.25 Β± 6.17, p < 0.05), hypertension (6 (8.3 %) vs. 8 (27.6 %), p < 0.05), diabetes mellitus (2 (2.7 %) vs. 5 (17.2 %), p < 0.05), the use of corticosteroids in the treatment of IBD (8 (11.1 %) vs. 10 (34.5 %), p < 0.05). In a comparative analysis of patients with IBD and COVID-19 from the SECURE-IBD database and own data, it was found that the average age of patients was comparable (42.7 vs 41.0). At the same time, in our group of male patients, there were slightly more people with DM, increased BMI, and an active course of IBD. The proportion of hospitalized patients was higher. In our cohort, there were fewer patients receiving biological therapy, but more patients on 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) and systemic corticosteroids. At the same time, lethal outcomes were comparable.Conclusion. In patients with IBD, the development of viral pneumonia was influenced by known risk factors for COVID-19: age over 55 years (p < 0.05, odds ratio (OR) 3.153), increased BMI (p < 0.05, OR 1.667), hypertensionΒ (p < 0.05, OR 2.724), diabetes (p < 0.05, OR 1.489), as well as the use of systemic corticosteroids (p < 0.05, OR 1.5)

Introduction. Myocardial lymphoma is one of the rarest lesion localizations among all the lymphoproliferative diseases. Regardless of the current lack of generally accepted specific recommendations for the treatment of primary and secondary myocardial lymphomas the chemotherapy is carried out in accordance with clinical guidelines for the treatment of lymphoproliferative diseases, which in some cases results in a successful outcome.Materials and methods. The article presents a clinical example of the diagnostic procedure and treatment of a 65-year-old female with the following diagnosis: non-Hodgkinβs lymphoma st. II BE gr. II with the involvement of myocardium, cervical and mediastinal lymph nodes, and the right palatine tonsil. The patient received six courses of R-CEOP chemotherapy. Results and discussion. An echo-positive structure 28mm by 20 mm in size attached to the interatrial septum was found inside the right atrium following the second course of chemotherapy. Ejection fraction: 61%. Effect: regression exceeding 50%. Four months following the completion of treatment the ejection fraction was 63%, regression β exceeding 80%, thus implying a partial response.Conclusion. The diagnosis of lymphoma with a lesion in the myocardium has been positively verified by histology and IHC. Currently less invasive techniques are normally preferred, transesophageal cardiac echo guided biopsy being one. Similar to any other lymphoproliferative disease, myocardial lymphoma is a chemosensitive tumour that responds well to treatment. In each individual case, the treatment strategy must be patient-specific and take into account the somatic status of the patient, the tumour size and the degree of its spread, the tumour morphological type, and whether it would be possible to arrange adequate specialized support needed.ΠΠ²Π΅Π΄Π΅Π½ΠΈΠ΅. Lattice vibrations of alpha'-NaV2O5
We have measured far infrared reflectance and transmittance spectra as well
as Raman scattering spectra of \alpha'-NaV2O5 single crystals for all the
principal polarizations. The temperature range above the phase transition
temperature T_c=35 K was investigated, mainly. On the basis of this
experimental study and of the lattice dynamics calculations we conclude that
the symmetry of NaV2O5 in the high temperature phase is described by the
centrosymmetric D_{2h}^{13} space group. The assignment of the observed phonons
is given. Values of dielectric constants are obtained from the infrared data.
Asymmetric shapes of several infrared lines as well as higher order infrared
vibrational spectra are discussed. The crystal field energy levels of the 3d
electron localized at the V^{4+} site have been calculated in the framework of
the exchange charge model using the values of effective charges obtained from
the lattice dynamics calculations. According to the results of these
calculations, the earlier observed broad optical bands in the region of 1 eV
can be interpreted as phonon assisted d-d transitions.Comment: 12 pages, 8 figures, 5 tables; submitted to PR
Spectra and relaxation of electronic excitations in CsCdBr3:Yb3+ and CsCdBr3:Nd3+ monocrystals
Experimental and theoretical studies of the optical and EPR spectra, and the spin-lattice relaxation in CsCdBr3 crystals containing 0.1, 0.3 and 1.0 mol.% of impurity Yb3+ ions have been fulfilled. In the optical excitation spectrum, a broad charge transfer band has been detected in the wave-number range of 25000-35000 cm-1. The hybridization of the excited electron configuration corresponding to the charge transfer from the ligand (Br-) 4p closed shells on the ground 4f13 configuration of the ytterbium ion is considered to interpret the anomalously large crystal field splitting of the 2F5/2 multiplet. The EPR spectra with comparable intensities of the axial single-ion and symmetric dimer centres in the sample containing 0.3 mol.% of impurity Yb3+ ions were observed. Spin-lattice relaxation rates and linewidths in the EPR spectra of the single-ion and dimer centres were measured in the temperature range of 1.5 - 35 K at the frequency of 9.5 GHz at different directions of the applied magnetic field relative to the crystal symmetry axis. Experimental results are analyzed in the framework of the microscopic theory of the electron-phonon interaction with taking into account peculiarities of the phonon spectrum of the impurity CsCdBr3 lattice. High-frequency EPR spectra of dimer centres in CsCdBr3 crystals containing 0.2 and 0.5 mol.% of impurity Nd3+ ions were taken in the range of 205-250 GHz at 4.2 K in the magnetic fields up to 0.8 T parallel to the crystal symmetry axis. The crystal field splitting between the first excited and the ground Kramers doublets, and magnetic splitting factors of these doublets were determined. An estimate of the isotropic ferromagnetic exchange constant A = (2.3Β±0.3) 10-3 cm-1 in symmetric dimer centres formed by impurity Nd3+ ions was obtained from the zero-field splitting of the EPR signals
