An annotated bibliography of selected guides for stream habitat improvement in the Pacific Northwest
This annotated bibliography is a response to widespread interest in stream habitat improvement in the Pacific Northwest by land managers, governmental and nongovernmental organizations, and the lay public. Several guides to stream habitat improvement have been written in the past, but may not be easily accessible to people from diverse backgrounds. This annotated bibliography reviews 11 guides to stream habitat improvement so that readers can find literature appropriate to their needs. All reviews begin with summaries of the contents, stated audiences, and goals of each guide. Reviews also include subjective comments on the strengths and weaknesses of each guide. Finally, this bibliography includes recommendations of guides and combinations of guides judged most useful for a range of purposes. Keywords: aquatic habitat, fisheries, restoration, salmonids, stream managemen
Peak Flow Responses to Forest Practices in the Western Cascades of Oregon, USA
The effects of clearcut silviculture (road building, clearfelling, cable logging, and site preparation) were evaluated using long-term peakflow records for three small watersheds (60–101 ha) and six large basins (62–640 km2) in the western Cascades of Oregon, USA. After a calibration period, two of the small watersheds were treated while the third remained untreated (control). Analysis indicated that peakflow increases following treatments were dependent upon peakflow magnitude. Peakflow increases averaged approximately 13–16% after treatment for 1-yr recurrence interval events, and 6–9% for 5-yr recurrence interval events. For the six large basins, multiple linear regression analyses of peakflows relative to: (1) peakflow magnitude; and (2) difference in percent area harvested provided mixed results. While significant (pr2) due to harvesting was generally small (1–7%)

Nitrogen fra fjell og fjord. Årsrapport for 1992 for NIVAs delprosjekter.
- Denitrifisering i vann. - Nitrogenets effekt på begroing i vann. - Nitrogenavrenning som funksjon av klima

Manganese thiophene tricarbonyl complexes: Nucleophilic addition to sulfur and synthesis of thiophenium salts
New thiophene manganese derivatives, [(2-R1-C4H3S)Mn(CO)3]+ 1(sil) (R1 = Si(OCH2-CH2)3N) and 1(Mn) (R1 = (C6H6)Mn(CO)3), have been synthesized and their reaction with nucleophiles studied. Except for the Grignard reagent, nucleophiles (Nu- = H-, -CN, -P(O)(OR)2 (R = Me, Ph)) usually attack the C5 position. Grignard reagents attack the sulfur atom to yield manganese S-R-thiophene carbonyls 3. To compare the reactivities of 1(sil) and 1(Mn) with that of (thiophene)Mn(CO)3 + with respect to Grignard reagent addition, the known compounds [(thiophene)Mn(CO)3]+ (thiophene = thiophene, 2-methylthiophene, 2,5-dimethylthiophene) have been synthesized and their reaction with Grignard reagents studied. In all cases, S-R-thiophene manganese carbonyls 3 were obtained as a sole product. Refluxing 3 (R = Ph, p-tolyl, 2-thienyl) with Me3NO in benzene yielded diaryl sulfide. Treatment of 3 with NOBF4 in CH2Cl2 led to S-R-thiophenium-manganese dicarbonyl nitrosyl cations 4. Photolysis of 4 in acetone gave rise to S-R-thiophenium 5 in high yields. The molecular structures of [{2-exo-P(O)(OMe)2??4-C4H 3S}Mn(CO)3] (2(sil,P(O)(OMe)2)), [S-Ph-??4-2-{(??5-C6H 6)Mn(CO)3}SC4H3]Mn(CO)3 (3(Mn,Ph)), and [p-CH3C6H5-S-2-CH3C 4H3] (5(Me,p-tolyl)) have been determined by X-ray studies.close131
