Reaction Dynamics for the Systems 7Be,8B + 208Pb at Coulomb Barrier Energies
In this contribution we describe the first results obtained for the investigation of
the elastic scattering process in the reactions induced by the Radioactive Ion Beams 7Be and
8B on a 208Pb target at Coulomb barrier energies. The experimental data were analyzed within
the framework of the optical model in order to extract the total reaction cross section. The
comparison with data available in literature for reactions induced on 208Pb by light ions in the
mass range A = 6-8 shows that the loosely-bound 8B has the largest reactivity
Early virtual science museums: when the technology is not mature
This paper discusses three case studies of early science museum-related websites in the 1990s and early 2000s, when web technology was still relatively new and evolving. The Virtual Museum of Computing (VMoC) was a completely virtual museum, originally produced in 1995 as part of the Virtual Library museums pages (VLmp), an international online museum directory within the WWW Virtual Library, adopted by the International Council of Museums (ICOM). The Science Museum in London was one of the first museums in the United Kingdom to have its own web server. The museum hosted an early meeting on web service provision by and for museums, concurrently with an exhibition on the Information Superhighway at the museum in 1995. Exhiblets were launched online in 1998. Ingenious was a multi-site digital collections transformation project, launched as a website in 2003. Virtual Leonardo and Leonardo’s Ideal City were two experiments conducted by the digital team of the Science and Technology Museum of Milan, between 1999 and 2001. The experiment consisted of the creation of a shared online 3D world, namely a reconstruction of the real museum in the first case and a completely imaginary world in the second case. This paper describes the above three case studies from the early World Wide Web and then draws some conclusions, from first-hand experience of developments at the time. We cover both the advantages and the challenges encountered by the various projects and illustrate why they did not necessarily become established, despite promising early results
Museum Websites of the First Wave: The rise of the virtual museum
In this paper, we analyse trends of the first wave of museum websites (from the 1990s to the early 2000s) to understand how the characteristics of the Internet (specifically the World Wide Web), of museum staff, and museum audiences shaped the adoption of technology and new forms of participation and what they can tell us about engagement for museums of the future. The early development of online museum resources parallels the development of the EVA conference, which was establishing itself at a similar time
Oxygen-15+ resonant elastic scattering to study cluster states in 19Ne
The elastic scattering excitation function for 15O on 4He was measured - for the first time - by using the Inverse Kinematic Thick Target scattering method. The obtained spectrum was analysed in an R-matrix framework providing spectroscopic information for several states in the excitation energy of the nucleus 19Ne from 4.8 to 9 MeV. Eight of them are newly observed

Elastic scattering of O-17+Pb-208 at energies near the Coulomb barrier
Within the frame of the commissioning of a new experimental apparatus EXPADES we undertook the measurement of the elastic scattering angular distribution for the system O-17+Pb-208 at energy around the Coulomb barrier. The reaction dynamics induced by loosely bound Radioactive Ion Beams is currently being extensively studied [4]. In particular the study of the elastic scattering process allows to obtain direct information on the total reaction cross section of the exotic nuclei. In order to understand the effect of the low binding energy on the reaction mechanism it is important to compare radioactive weakly bound nuclei with stable strongly-bound nuclei. In this framework the study of the O-17+Pb-208 elastic scattering can be considered to be complementary to a previous measurement of the total reaction cross section for the system F-17+Pb-208 at energies of 86, 90.4 MeV [5, 6]. The data will be compared with those obtained for the neighboring systems O-16,O-18+Pb-208 and others available in literature
The GAP-TPC
Several experiments have been conducted worldwide, with the goal of observing
low-energy nuclear recoils induced by WIMPs scattering off target nuclei in
ultra-sensitive, low-background detectors. In the last few decades noble liquid
detectors designed to search for dark matter in the form of WIMPs have been
extremely successful in improving their sensitivities and setting the best
limits. One of the crucial problems to be faced for the development of large
size (multi ton-scale) liquid argon experiments is the lack of reliable and low
background cryogenic PMTs: their intrinsic radioactivity, cost, and borderline
performance at 87 K rule them out as a possible candidate for photosensors. We
propose a brand new concept of liquid argon-based detector for direct dark
matter search: the Geiger-mode Avalanche Photodiode Time Projection Chamber
(GAP-TPC) optimized in terms of residual radioactivity of the photosensors,

Reaction dynamics studies for the system 7Be + 208Pb at Coulomb barrier energies
The scattering process of the Radioactive Ion Beam 7Be from a 208Pb target was measured at three near-barrier energies. The quasi-elastic angular distributions were analyzed within the framework of the optical model to extract the reaction cross sections. The results are compared with those obtained for the reactions induced by the mirror projectile 7Li and by the lightest particle-stable lithium isotope 6Li on the same target. The angular distributions for the production of the two 7Be constituent clusters, namely 3He and 4He, were also measured. In agreement with what observed for the interaction of 7Be with lighter targets, the production of the heavier helium isotope resulted to be much more abundant than that of its lighter counterpart
Reaction dynamics induced by the radioactive ion beam 7Be on medium-mass and heavy targets
We studied the reaction dynamics induced at Coulomb barrier energies by the weakly-bound Radioactive Ion Beam 7Be (Sα = 1.586 MeV) on medium-mass (58Ni) and heavy (208Pb) targets. The experiments were performed at INFN-LNL (Italy), where a 2-3×105 pps 7Be secondary beam was produced with the RIB in-flight facility EXOTIC. Charged reaction products were detected by means of high-granularity silicon detectors in rather wide angular ranges. First operation of a double phase LAr Large Electron Multiplier Time Projection Chamber with a two-dimensional projective readout anode
We have previously reported on the construction and successful operation of
the novel double phase Liquid Argon Large Electron Multiplier Time Projection
Chamber (LAr LEM-TPC). This detector concept provides a 3D-tracking and
calorimetric device capable of adjustable charge amplification, a promising
readout technology for next-generation neutrino detectors and direct Dark
Matter searches. In this paper, we report on the first operation of a LAr
LEM-TPC prototype - with an active area of 1010 cm and 21 cm drift
length - equipped with a single 1 mm thick LEM amplifying stage and a two
dimensional projective readout anode. Cosmic muon events were collected, fully
reconstructed and used to characterize the performance of the chamber. The
obtained signals provide images of very high quality and the energy loss
distributions of minimum ionizing tracks give a direct estimate of the
amplification. We find that a stable gain of 27 can be achieved with this
detector configuration corresponding to a signal-over-noise ratio larger than
200 for minimum ionizing tracks. The decoupling of the amplification stage and
the use of the 2D readout anode offer several advantages which are described in
