Time dependent correlations in marine stratocumulus cloud base height records
The scaling ranges of time correlations in the cloud base height records of
marine boundary layer stratocumulus are studied applying the Detrended
Fluctuation Analysis statistical method. We have found that time dependent
variations in the evolution of the exponent reflect the diurnal
dynamics of cloud base height fluctuations in the marine boundary layer. In
general, a more stable structure of the boundary layer corresponds to a lower
value of the - indicator, i.e. larger anti-persistence, thus a set of
fluctuations tending to induce a greater stability of the stratocumulus. In
contrast, during periods of higher instability in the marine boundary, less
anti-persistent (more persistent like) behavior of the system drags it out of
equilibrium, corresponding to larger values. From an analysis of the
frequency spectrum, the stratocumulus base height evolution is found to be a
non-stationary process with stationary increments. The occurrence of these
statistics in cloud base height fluctuations suggests the usefulness of similar
studies for the radiation transfer dynamics modeling.Comment: 12 pages, 6 figures; to appear in Int. J. Mod. Phys. C, Vol. 13, No.

Eccentric double white dwarfs as LISA sources in globular clusters
We consider the formation of double white dwarfs (DWDs) through dynamical
interactions in globular clusters. Such interactions can give rise to eccentric
DWDs, in contrast to the exclusively circular population expected to form in
the Galactic disk. We show that for a 5-year Laser Interferometer Space Antenna
(LISA) mission and distances as far as the Large Magellanic Cloud, multiple
harmonics from eccentric DWDs can be detected at a signal-to-noise ratio higher
than 8 for at least a handful of eccentric DWDs, given their formation rate and
typical lifetimes estimated from current cluster simulations. Consequently the
association of eccentricity with stellar-mass LISA sources does not uniquely
involve neutron stars, as is usually assumed. Due to the difficulty of
detecting (eccentric) DWDs with present and planned electromagnetic
observatories, LISA could provide unique dynamical identifications of these
systems in globular clusters.Comment: Published in ApJ 665, L5
Self-dual Yang-Mills fields in pseudoeuclidean spaces
The self-duality Yang-Mills equations in pseudoeuclidean spaces of dimensions
are investigated. New classes of solutions of the equations are
found. Extended solutions to the D=10, N=1 supergravity and super Yang-Mills
equations are constructed from these solutions.Comment: 9 pages, LaTeX, no figure
An Electron‐Rich Calix[4]arene‐Based Receptor with Unprecedented Binding Affinity for Nitric Oxide
Calixarenes have found widespread application as building blocks for the design and synthesis of functional materials in host–guest chemistry. The ongoing desire to develop a detailed understanding of the nature of NO bonding to multichromophoric π‐stacked assemblies led us to develop an electron‐rich methoxy derivative of calix[4]arene (3), which we show exists as a single conformer in solution at ambient temperature. Here, we examine the redox properties of this derivative, generate its cation radical (3+.) using robust chemical oxidants, and determine the relative efficacy of its NO binding in comparison with model calixarenes. We find that 3/3+. is a remarkable receptor for NO+/NO, with unprecedented binding efficacy. The availability of precise experimental structures of this calixarene derivative and its NO complex, obtained by X‐ray crystallography, is critically important both for developing novel functional NO biosensors, and understanding the role of stacked aromatic donors in efficient NO binding, which may have relevance to biological NO transport
Noncommutative Moduli for Multi-Instantons
There exists a recursive algorithm for constructing BPST-type
multi-instantons on commutative R^4. When deformed noncommutatively, however,
it becomes difficult to write down non-singular instanton configurations with
topological charge greater than one in explicit form. We circumvent this
difficulty by allowing for the translational instanton moduli to become
noncommutative as well. This makes possible the ADHM construction of 't Hooft
multi-instanton solutions with everywhere self-dual field strengths on
noncommutative R^4.Comment: 1+9 pages; v2: reference added, published versio

Science of postnonclassical period is characterized by differentiation of methods of cognition both in natural sciences and in humanities. It is connected with rapid complication of modern world as a system included a number of subsystems. The world and its objects are considered as arising and developing ones. Each period of revolution of science as a system of interconnected components, characterizing of special condition of scientific activity tending to permanent growth of objectivetrue knowledge is examined. It is of great importance to note that each period of science’s evolution is characterized by certain type of rationality. Distinguishing of not only different types of scientific revolutions and kinds of scientific rationality, but types of cultural consciousness analyzed by V. Lukiants referring to Ch. Snow is proposed in article. The first kind of cultural consciousness is a welleducated humanitarian intelligence one which found its realization in sciences on spirit, culture, language and in Literature, Music, Philosophy are studied in the article. This kind of cultural consciousness is related to spiritual creativity and emotional complicity of life providing. Carriers of such kind of cultural consciousness are characterized by devotion to traditional cultural values, moral and ethical guidelines, reverence for life, suspicious attitude to scientific and technological progress and attempts to intrusion into the sphere of human subjectivity. The second kind of cultural consciousness of researchers of cosmos and nature is analyzed in the article. This group has such features as involvement into revolution ideology and loyalty to the ideals of Enlightenment, faith in the future, confidence in science and its unlimited possibilities to change human nature. Carriers of second kind of cultural consciousness have negative attitude to any attempts of humanitarians to establish prohibition of intervention to human nature.
Application of radio impulse to geoelectrical exploration of a hydrocarbonic deposit
Geoelectrical exploration method of a hydrocarbonic deposit by means of radio impulse emission is suggested. This method allows to pinpoint overall boundaries and depth of a geological deposit with greater accuracy. Two examples of the method have been described in this paper
