    Critical levels and sufficiency ranges for leaf nutrient diagnosis in cowpea grown in the Northeast region of Brazil.

    Proposing sufficiency ranges and critical levels is an important technique for correct evaluation of leaf nutrient diagnosis. In this study, the objective was to propose critical levels and sufficiency ranges of macro- and micronutrients for the diagnostic leaf of cowpea, collected at flowering, with the results of macro- and micronutrients and productivity in the Northeast of Brazil. The critical level was calculated by the reduced normal distribution and by the boundary line method, which was also used to generate sufficiency ranges. For the critical level by reduced normal distribution, the relationship of the nutrients with 90% of maximum productivity was adopted. For the boundary line, the relationship of the nutrients that are in the upper line of a dispersion diagram was considered. The critical levels by reduced normal distribution for nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn) and zinc (Zn) are: 35.3 g kg-1, 1.8 g kg-1, 20.5 g kg-1, 11.1 g kg-1, 2.6 g kg-1, 3.2 mg kg-1, 105 mg kg-1, 89 mg kg-1and 22 mg kg-1, respectively. However, the critical levels generated by the boundary line for N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn are 39.5 g kg-1, 2.3 g kg-1, 21.2 g kg-1, 11.3 g kg-1, 2.9 g kg-1, 4.2mg kg-1, 142 mg kg-1, 143mg kg-1 and 24 mg kg-1, respectively. The sufficiency ranges by the boundary line method, to achieve 95% of maximum productivity, are equivalent to 34.4-44.7g kg-1, 1.7-2.9 g kg-1,18.6-23.6 g kg-1,8.8-13.7 g kg-1,2.3-3.5 g kg-1,3.1-5.4 mg kg-1,73-210 mg kg-1,104-181 mg kg-1 and 22-27 mg kg-1 for N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn, respectively

    Multiple and various graphic design pieces were created around the world for digital media during the COVID-19 pandemic. These graphic design pieces were meant to disseminate information about the disease caused by the new Corona Virus SARS-CoV-2 to inform people on how to better protect themselves. Information Design uses guidelines and principles that would inform the design of useful graphic pieces to combat the pandemic and help the people to address their health needs for citizenship rights. This research analyzed multiple pieces made available by Fiocruz (a Brazilian health institution). The case study presented in this paper explores the piece with information explaining how soap acts on the virus and proposes a new design to improve its quality

    Rainfall characteristics are important to specialists in various fields including agronomists and hydrologists, since rainfall is the major factor controlling agricultural productivity and the hydrologic cycle of a region. However, heavy rainfall is ineffective for agriculture and it causes soil erosion. This paper discusses rainfall characteristics dealing with the largest daily and monthly totals occurred in Belém, during the last five years (1997-2001), comparing to a thirty years period (1967- 1930). In order to analyze these rainfall characteristics, rainfall seasonally and the largest rainfall totals for each month and day in the year were studied. The concept of effective rainfall and the results of water balance calculation were also applied. The mean results indicated that the largest daily rainfall totals occurred during the most wet season and that during the last five years, the largest daily and monthly rainfall totals do not exceed the thirty- year period

    Transformação de plantas de tabaco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) com os genes recombinantes 35SHBsAg e 35SHBsAgER do vírus da hepatite B.

    O antígeno de superfície do vírus da hepatite B (HBsAg) recombinante, purificado de plantas transgênicas, mostrou-se bastante eficiente quando utilizado para a indução da produção de anticorpos anti-HBs para a prevenção da hepatite B. Devido ao importante papel demonstrado pelo antígeno HBsAg para a prevenção da hepatite B, a sequência codificadora do antígeno HBsAg, adicionada ou não da sequência carboxi-terminal para retenção da proteína no retículo endoplasmático, foi ligada ao promotor 35S do vírus do mosaico da couve-flor, à sequência líder ? do vírus do mosaico do tabaco, e à sequência terminadora da transcrição. O objetivo deste trabalho foi realizar a clonagem do gene quimérico 35SHBsAgER no vetor de expressão em plantas pGPTV/Kan/Asc. O plasmídio resultante, denominado pG35SHBsAgER, e um plasmídio produzido anteriormente em nosso laboratório, denominado pG35SHBsAg, foram transferidos para Agrobacterium tumefaciens e folhas de tabaco, cultivar SR1, foram utilizadas como explantes para transformação genética. Foram obtidas 21 plantas completas, dez para a construção pG35SHBsAg, e 11 para a construção pG35SHBsAgER. O DNA genômico de todas as plantas foi analisado por PCR e foi observada a presença do transgene em todas as plantas
