Human Trafficking and Foreign Policy: An Introduction
[Excerpt] Human trafficking (also known as trafficking in persons) refers to the subjection of men, women, or children to exploitative conditions that may be tantamount to modern-day slavery. From a foreign policy perspective, human trafficking can be viewed as a human rights problem, a manifestation of transnational organized crime, and a violation of core international labor standards. Human trafficking also raises economic development, international migration, and global governance and security issues, and disproportionately victimizes vulnerable populations.
The Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 (TVPA, Division A of P.L. 106-386; 22 U.S.C. 7101 et seq.) defined “severe forms of trafficking in persons” to include sex trafficking induced by force, fraud, or coercion, child sex trafficking (under 18 years of age), and forced labor trafficking. The latter involves the recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision, or obtaining of a person—induced by force, fraud, or coercion—for the purpose of subjecting that person, including a child, to involuntary servitude, peonage, debt bondage, or slavery
Nonvanishing cohomology and classes of Gorenstein rings
We give counterexamples to the following conjecture of Auslander: given a
finitely generated module over an Artin algebra , there exists a
positive integer such that for all finitely generated -modules
, if \Ext_{\Lambda}^i(M,N)=0 for all , then
\Ext_{\Lambda}^i(M,N)=0 for all . Some of our examples moreover
yield homologically defined classes of commutative local rings strictly between
the class of local complete intersections and the class of local Gorenstein
rings.Comment: 16 page
Compatible metrics on a manifold and non-local bi-Hamiltonian structures
Given a flat metric one may generate a local Hamiltonian structure via the
fundamental result of Dubrovin and Novikov. More generally, a flat pencil of
metrics will generate a local bi-Hamiltonian structure, and with additional
quasi-homogeneity conditions one obtains the structure of a Frobenius manifold.
With appropriate curvature conditions one may define a curved pencil of
compatible metrics and these give rise to an associated non-local
bi-Hamiltonian structure. Specific examples include the F-manifolds of Hertling
and Manin equipped with an invariant metric. In this paper the geometry
supporting such compatible metrics is studied and interpreted in terms of a
multiplication on the cotangent bundle. With additional quasi-homogeneity
assumptions one arrives at a so-called weak \F-manifold - a curved version of
a Frobenius manifold (which is not, in general, an F-manifold). A submanifold
theory is also developed.Comment: 17 page
The Research of Technological Approach to the Modeling of Information and Analytic Provision of Managing an Enterprise
The article is devoted to the solution of actual problems of innovative development of information and analytical provision of managing an enterprise according to the newest technology. A number of recommendations concerning technological upgrading foundation of modernization of information and analytic provision of managing an enterprise are elaborated. Technological approach to the modeling of information provision of business management is substantiated. Actualizing information and analytic provision of managing an enterprise has been carried out in developed flexible information system that is organized as internal network structure. Technological foundation of information and analytical process enterprise to modernize has been considered based on the modern tools of information and communication decisions. Information and analytical provision of managing have been developed through internal and external parallels of impact, which interconnection coordinates theory, methodology and organization of information processes with actualization of its model. The model of information and analytic provision of managing an enterprise according to the individual characteristics of corporate culture, and information environment and development strategy of business entity on the basis of characteristics of technological provision of information process is developed. Information complex has been suggested as developed system with technological process of forming initial data and modernizing processing, transmission and storage of information in accordance with distinctive characteristics of enterprise and general tendencies of its developmen
Estimated Impacts of a Potential U.S.-Mexico Preferential Trading Agreement for the Agricultural Sector
We develop a three region - U.S., Mexico, and Rest-of-World - simulation model to analyze the effects on the agricultural sector of a potential preferential trading arrangement (PTA) between Mexico and the United States. The simulation exercises indicate that two-way agricultural trade increases and welfare improves in the United States and Mexico from a bilateral preferential agreement on agricultural products. Our results show that when border protection is eliminated by the United States and Mexico, bilateral agricultural trade expands by over 15 percent. Relative to the size of the two agricultural sectors, however, the overall impact is very small for the U.S. agricultural sector but there is a more significant adjustment for Mexican agriculture.preferential trading arrangements, simulation model, agricultural trade, United States and Mexico, International Relations/Trade,
ASPECTS OF UTILIZATION OF SINTERED BASALT PARTS IN MACHINE BUILDING
Experimental wearing tests with parts from sprinklers, harvesters, cereal, hay and straw
gathering machines demonstrated that the use of sintered basalt in machine building contributed
to a twofold-threefold decrease of energy, brass, graphite, cast iron and aluminium
consumption, along with much steadier technological quality indices.
The diffraction lines of natural rocks and, then, those of sintered basalt parts were
analysed using diffractometric investigation methods. The diffractograms examined verified
the factors that contribute to the wear resistance modification, and the necessity
of varying the technologies for shaping and mechanical processing of parts in connection
with calcination and sintering heat treatment
Two Entomophagous Isolated From Sumatera Utara; Potential as Biocontrol Agent Againts Nematode
Two species of nematophagous fungi has been isolated from Sumatera Utara soil, with an aim of harnessing their potential in the biological control of plant parasitic nematodes or animal parasitic nematodes in Indonesia, especially in Sumatera Utara. Soil samples were collected from tobacco plantations, vegetable fields and ornamental plantings in the Berastagi area, and also from livestock in local farms and a dairy farm in Berastagi Area, Karo Regency. Soil also collected from un-cultivated area in Sibolangit National Park, Karo Regency. The pour method described by Larsen et al., (1988) and the sprinkle method described by Jafee et al., (1996) were used to isolate the nematophagous fungi from soil. In this study the Chloramphenicol Water Agar Media has been used as culture media and Ceanorhabditis elegans has been used as bait. Two nematophagous fungi known as insect pathogens (entomophagous) have been isolated and determined as Lecanicillium lecanii and Paecilomyces fumosoroseus
DRIVE-THRU PHARMACY SERVICE: ASSESSMENT OF PERCEPTION AMONG PATIENTS OR CAREGIVERS IN HOSPITAL RAJA PEREMPUAN ZAINAB II
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the perception of patients or caregivers on drive-thru pharmacy in Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital (HRPZ II), Kelantan. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from July to September 2014 on 387 patients or caregivers recruited from outpatient pharmacy, HRPZ II using a constructed survey form. The questionnaire was validated through a pilot study which yielded a Cronbach's alpha score of 0.897. It comprised common socio-demographic characteristics as well as 3 domains which described subject's experience in outpatient pharmacy, subject's perception of drive-thru pharmacy and subject's willingness to participate in the service. Results: More than half of respondents (n=231, 59.7 %) were aware of the existence of drive-thru pharmacy service. Almost all patients and caregivers (n=349, 90.2 %) perceived the service as useful to the public. Only a handful of them were reluctant to sign up, mainly due to the perception that it would cause lack of interaction between patients and pharmacists (n=16, 4.1%). Nearly three-quarters of participants (n=288; 74.4%) informed that they had never been asked to register as drive-thru pharmacy clients. They claimed that they were willing to use the service should it was offered to them (n=301; 77.8 %).Conclusion: This survey managed to garner positive feedbacks on drive-thru pharmacy. Most of the subjects perceived it as beneficial and were willing to use the service.Ă‚
