    Aircraft control via variable cant-angle winglets

    Copyright @ 2008 American Institute of Aeronautics and AstronauticsThis paper investigates a novel method for the control of "morphing" aircraft. The concept consists of a pair of winglets; with adjustable cant angle, independently actuated and mounted at the tips of a baseline flying wing. The general philosophy behind the concept was that for specific flight conditions such as a coordinated turn, the use of two control devices would be sufficient for adequate control. Computations with a vortex lattice model and subsequent wind-tunnel tests demonstrate the viability of the concept, with individual and/or dual winglet deflection producing multi-axis coupled control moments. Comparisons between the experimental and computational results showed reasonable to good agreement, with the major discrepancies thought to be due to wind-tunnel model aeroelastic effects.This work has been supported by a Marie Curie excellence research grant funded by the European Commission

    Confined Acoustic Phonon in CdS1-xSex Nanoparticles in Borosilicate Glass

    We calculate low-frequency Raman scattering from the confined acoustic phonon modes of CdS1-xSex nanoparticles embedded in borosilicate glass. The calculation of the Raman scattering by acoustic phonons in nanoparticles has been performed by using third-order perturbation theory. The deformation potential approximation is used to describe the electronphonon interaction. The Raman-Brillouin electronic density and the electron-phonon interaction are found to increases with decreasing size of nanoparticle.     Applying Dijkstras Algorithm in Routing Process

    Network is defined as a combination of two or more nodes which are connected with each other. It allows nodes to exchange data from each other along the data connections. Routing is a process of finding the path between source and destination upon request of data transmission. There are various routing algorithms which helps in determining the path and distance over the network traffic. For routing of nodes, we can use many routing protocols. Dijkstrarsquos algorithm is one of the best shortest path search algorithms. Our focus and aim is to find the shortest path from source node to destination node. For finding the minimum path this algorithm uses the connection matrix and weight matrix Thus, a matrix consisting of paths from source node to each node is formed. We then choose a column of destination from path matrix formed and we get the shortest path. In a similar way, we choose a column from a mindis matrix for finding the minimum distance from source node to destination node. It has been applied in computer networking for routing of systems and in google maps to find the shortest possible path from one location to another location.nbs

    Trend analysis using non-stationary time series clustering based on the finite element method

    In order to analyze low-frequency variability of climate, it is useful to model the climatic time series with multiple linear trends and locate the times of significant changes. In this paper, we have used non-stationary time series clustering to find change points in the trends. Clustering in a multi-dimensional non-stationary time series is challenging, since the problem is mathematically ill-posed. Clustering based on the finite element method (FEM) is one of the methods that can analyze multidimensional time series. One important attribute of this method is that it is not dependent on any statistical assumption and does not need local stationarity in the time series. In this paper, it is shown how the FEM-clustering method can be used to locate change points in the trend of temperature time series from in situ observations. This method is applied to the temperature time series of North Carolina (NC) and the results represent region-specific climate variability despite higher frequency harmonics in climatic time series. Next, we investigated the relationship between the climatic indices with the clusters/trends detected based on this clustering method. It appears that the natural variability of climate change in NC during 1950–2009 can be explained mostly by AMO and solar activity

    Analytical solutions for a two-level system driven by a class of chirped pulses

    We present analytical solutions for the problem of a two-level atom driven by a class of chirped pulses. The solutions are given in terms of Heun functions.
