Mobile Feed Milling by Cooperatives in the Northeast

    No full text
Excerpts from the report: This study covers mobile mill services offered by 5 cooperatives—or in some cases branches of a cooperative—that were operating 12 mobile mills in Pennsylvania and New Jersey in 1958 and 1959. One association had seven branches operating eight mills; the other four associations each operated one mill. We also obtained information on time required to do the different operations in four of the mills during 1960. This study was undertaken primarily to assist cooperative feed dealers who have mobile feed mills in evaluating their mobile mill operations, and to provide those considering the purchase of mobile mills with information on desirable volumes, operating data, and practices essential for success. The more specific objectives of this study were: (1) To determine operating practices and policies of mobile mill operations; (2) to determine costs and returns of the mobile mill operations; and (3) to compare the efficiency of different methods of operating mobile feed mills
