A systematic review of naturalistic interventions in refugee populations

Naturalistic interventions with refugee populations examine outcomes following mental health interventions in existing refugee service organisations. The current review aimed to examine outcomes of naturalistic interventions and quality of the naturalistic intervention literature in refugee populations with the view to highlight the strengths and limitations of naturalistic intervention studies. Database search was conducted using the search terms ‘refugee’, ‘asylum seeker’, ‘treatment’, ‘therapy’ and ‘intervention. No date limitations were applied, but searches were limited to articles written in English. Seven studies were identified that assessed the outcome of naturalistic interventions on adult refugees or asylum seekers in a country of resettlement using quantitative outcome measures. Results showed significant variation in the outcomes of naturalistic intervention studies, with a trend towards showing decreased symptomatology at post-intervention. However, conclusions are limited by methodological problems of the studies reviewed, particularly poor documentation of intervention methods and lack of control in the design of naturalistic intervention studies. Further examination of outcomes following naturalistic interventions is needed with studies which focus on increasing the rigour of the outcome assessment process

Physical education and sport in Rivne and Rivne county in the years 1921-1939. Outline of the issues

Powiat rówieński w 1921 r. wszedł w skład województwa wołyńskiego II Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej. Z części gmin powiatu rówieńskiego, 1 stycznia 1925 r. utworzono powiat kostopolski. Znaczącą większość powiatu stanowiła ludność ukraińska. Drugą i trzecią grupę narodowościową stanowiła społeczność polska i żydowska. Powiat rówieński zamieszkiwały także inne społeczności, m.in.: czeska, niemiecka i rosyjska. W latach 1921–1939 nastąpił rozwój wychowania fizycznego i sportu w Równem i w powiecie rówieńskim, m.in. w kwestii infrastruktury sportowej, jak również kształcenia kadr dla potrzeb wychowania fizycznego i sportu. Dużą rolę w rozwoju aktywności fizycznej odegrały organizacje i towarzystwa młodzieżowe i społeczne, m.in.: Towarzystwo Gimnastyczne „Sokół”, Wołyński Związek Młodzieży Wiejskiej i Związek Strzelecki. Znaczącą rolę w działalności sportowej odegrały kluby sportowe. Rozwojowi aktywności sportowej sprzyjały powstające na Wołyniu struktury sportu, m.in. okręgowe związki sportowe, mające siedzibę w Równem. Wychowanie fizyczne i sport realizowane były wśród ludności ukraińskiej – na Wołyniu działalność zaznaczyły organizacje „Płast” i „Junak”.In 1921 Rivne county became a part of Volhynian province of the second Polish Republic. Some communes of the Rivne county were on 1 January 1925 made into Kostopil county. A significant majority of the county was the Ukrainian population. The second and third national group was composed of Polish and Jewish communities. Rivne county was also inhabited by other communities including Czech, German and Russian ones. The years 1921–1939 saw the development of physical education and sport in Rivne and Rivne county, among others of sports infrastructure as well as training of personnel for physical education and sport. An important role in the development of physical activity was played by youth organizations and associations including: Gymnastic Society “Sokół” [“Falcon”], Volhynian Association of Rural Youth and Shooting Association. A significant role in sports activities was played by sports clubs. The sports structures established in Volyn, among others Rivne-based district sports associations, were conducive to the development of this field of physical culture. Physical education and sport were practised among the Ukrainian population, in Volyn such organizations as “Płast” and “Junak” stood out
