Factors associated with quality of life in systemic sclerosis: a cross-sectional study
© 2019, The Author(s). Introduction: Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a connective tissue disease characterized by progressive fibrosis of the skin and internal organs, leading to their failure and disturbances in the morphology and function of blood vessels. The disease affects people in different ways, and identifying how the difficulties and limitations are related to quality of life may contribute to designing helpful interventions. The aim of this study was to identify factors associated with quality of life in people with SSc. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted in 11 rheumatic centres in Poland. Patients diagnosed with SSc were included. Quality of life was measured using the SSc Quality of Life Questionnaire (SScQoL). The following candidate factors were entered in preliminary multivariable analysis: age, place of residence, marital status, occupational status, disease type, disease duration, pain, fatigue, intestinal problems, breathing problems, Raynaud’s symptoms, finger ulcerations, disease severity, functional disability, anxiety and depression. Factors that achieved statistical significance at the 10% level were then entered into a final multivariable model. Factors achieving statistical significance at the 5% level in the final model were considered to be associated with quality of life in SSc. Results: In total, 231 participants were included. Mean age (SD) was 55.82 (12.55) years, disease duration 8.39 (8.18) years and 198 (85.7%) were women. Factors associated with quality of life in SSc were functional disability (β = 2.854, p < 0.001) and anxiety (β = 0.404, p < 0.001). This model with two factors (functional disability and anxiety) explained 56.7% of the variance in patients with diffuse SSc and 73.2% in those with localized SSc. Conclusions: Functional disability and anxiety are significantly associated with quality of life in SSc. Interventions aimed at improving either of these factors may contribute towards improving the quality of life of people with SSc
Woody plants in the historical manor park in Edwardowo (Poznan, greater Poland region)
The article presents the current state of woody plants in the historical park at the Edwardowo
manor and grange complex in Poznań. 921 trees, one individual shrub, 11 groups of shrubs and 3 specimens of vines were inventoried in the park area, i.e. 1.5 ha. The tree stand in the park mostly consists of angiosperm trees. According to geographical and historical classification, native species of apophytes are the most numerous group
Ocena sensoryczna mięsa jagnięcego przez studentów z uwzględnieniem wybranych uwarunkowań konsumenckich
The aim of the study was to analyse consumer preferences for different types of meat and factors influencing the sensory acceptability of lamb meat among a group of surveyed university students. A survey and sensory analysis of roast leg of lamb was conducted among 202 students (17.8% men and 82.2% women; 33.2% respondents from rural areas and 66.8% from urban areas) from the Poznań University of Life Sciences. All the students had eaten chicken and pork, which were shown to be the most frequently consumed and most preferred meats. Almost 40% had eaten lamb, but only 1% indicated lamb as their favourite kind of meat. The highest ratings for the sensory quality of roast leg of lamb were given by men, by students who favour fried and roasted meat, and by those who declared interest in eating lamb in the future. Over 92% of the students surveyed found lamb acceptable and declared interest in eating lamb in the future. Of these 92%, about 40% of respondents declared interest in eating lamb often and about 50% in eating it occasionally. The high acceptability observed for the sensory traits of lamb may suggest that if lamb was appropriately promoted, distributed and made available, lamb consumption in Poland would increase.
Poznaniu (17,8% mężczyzn i 82,2% kobiet; 33,2% respondentów z obszarów wiejskich i 66,8% z
obszarów miejskich). Wszyscy badani respondenci spożywali mięso z kurczaka i wieprzowinę.
spożywanie jagnięciny, a 51,5% – sporadyczne.
The aim of the study was to analyse the effect of sex, storage time and muscle type (m. longissimus dorsi and m. biceps femoris) on quality traits of the meat of French Lop rabbits. The muscles were obtained from 12 males and 12 females slaughtered at the age of 90 days. The characteristics analysed included pH, colour parameters, water holding capacity and proximate composition. No effect of sex or muscle type was found (P>0.05) on the pH of the meat in any of the periods analysed. The storage time differentiated (P≤0.01) between pH45min and pH24h and between pH45min and pH7days. None of the colour parameters was influenced by sex (P>0.05), but they were significantly affected by storage time (P≤0.01). Redness and yellowness were also influenced by the type of muscle (P≤0.01). The rabbit meat stored for 7 days was characterised by higher drip loss than the meat stored for 24 hours (1.31-1.49% vs. 3.34-3.57%, P≤0.05). The m. biceps femoris of both sexes had a greater capacity to hold water as measured by the pressure method than m. longissimus dorsi (P≤0.01). There was no effect of sex or muscle type (P>0.05) on the level of cooking loss. Sex and muscle type also had no influence (P>0.05) on the proximate composition of French Lop meat.Celem pracy było określenie wpływu płci, czasu przechowywania i rodzaju mięśnia (m. longissimus
dorsi i m. biceps femoris) na cechy jakościowe mięsa królików rasy baran francuski. Mięśnie pozyskano
z tusz 12 samców i 12 samic ubitych w wieku 90 dni.
3,34-3,57%; P≤0,05). U obu płci mięsień biceps femoris cechował się większą wodochłonnością (cm2)
(P≤0,01) w porównaniu do m. longissimus dorsi. Nie wykazano wpływu rodzaju mięśnia oraz płci
(P>0,05) na wielkość wycieku termicznego. Nie stwierdzono również wpływu rodzaju mięśnia oraz
płci (P>0,05) na skład chemiczny mięsa królików rasy baran francuski
