    Implementation of a low cost prototype for electrical impedance tomography based on the integrated circuit for body composition measurement AFE4300

    Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is a technique of image reconstruction of the electrical conductivity distribution in a tissue or region under observation. An electrical system for EIT comprises complex hardware and software modules, which are designed for a specific application which requires that the system to be able to detect conductivity variations within the study object. The Front-End for body composition measurement, AFE4300 from Texas Instruments allows a minimal implementation of an electrical impedance tomography system. It is the main device in the development of the EIT system presented in this paper, this device injects the current signal and measures the tensions generated on the study region boundary by 8 electrodes, the image reconstruction software was developed on the National Instruments platform Labview. The system includes a microcontroller PIC16F886 to configure the 8 channels for the definition of the patterns of injection and measurement of signals, also defines the current signal frequency and the bluetooth communication with the computer for the image reconstruction. The developed system was validated by a planar resistive phantom (CardiffEIT phantom), obtaining a stable voltage measurement every 50 ms per pair of electrodes, and a signal to noise ratio (SNR) maximum of 71.8 dB, for a current signal of 50 kHz. Additionally, tests were carried out in a saline tank with a concentration of 4 g/L, the developed system can simultaneously estimate the presence of conductive and non-conductive disturbances into the tank.     PREVALENCE AND EXTENT OF AWARENESS OF DEPRESSION IN YOUTH

    Objective: Depression is a common mental disorder that affects hundreds of millions of people worldwide. Increasing awareness about depression in youth can help in addressing the consequences of the disorder that may extend to adulthood. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and associated socio-demographic factors of depression among youth and to determine the efficacy of an educational intervention in increasing awareness about depression. Methods: Pre-university and graduate students between 15 to 24 y of age were included in the study. Data was collected using the Patient Health Questionnaire-9, the Adolescent Depression Knowledge Questionnaire, and a self-designed proforma of socio-demographic factors. An educational intervention, in the form of a video, was provided to the subjects. A post-intervention questionnaire was administered after a period of 4-6 w. Analysis and interpretation of data were completed using the Chi-square test and SPSS v22 software. Results: The prevalence of depression in youth was found to be 29.6% using a PHQ-9 cut-off score of 10. Annual household income was found to have a statistically significant association with the prevalence of depression (*P-value: 0.036). The students’ knowledge about depression was notably improved, as observed from answers of the ADKQ, before and after the educational intervention. Conclusion: Depression is prevalent among Indian students, and this highlights the need for screening of students and educational interventions.     Preparation, spectroscopic and structural study of copper(II) complexes derived from bulky pyridine ligands

    Three different binuclear tetracarboxylato-bridged copper(II) complexes supported by bulky pyridines ligands [Cu(m-MeCO2)2(dPy)]2 (dPy = 3-phenylpyridine (1), 2-benzylpyridine (2) and 4-acetylpyridine (3)) have been synthesised. These compounds were obtained from reaction of [Cu(MeCO2)2(H2O)]2 with pyridine-derived ligands in methanol at room temperature. All compounds were fully characterized by analytical and spectroscopic methods. The molecular structures were determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. All compounds consist of binuclear units where both Cu(II) atoms are linked by four syn-syn carboxylates bridges, showing a paddle-wheel unit, and exhibit interesting intermolecular interactions in the outer coordination sphere

    Cu(II) 4-phenoxybenzoate dimers and monomer coordinated by pyridines: synthesis and crystal structures

    The complexes [Cu(PhOBz)2(dPy)]2 (PhOBz = 4-phenoxybenzoate; dPy = pyridine (1), 3-phenylpyridine (2), 4-benzylpyridine (3) and 4-phenylpyridine (4) and the complex [Cu(PhOBz)2(4-Phpy)2(H2O)] (5) were prepared and fully characterized. X-ray crystal structures of the five complexes have been determined. Complexes 1-4 consist of binuclear units where both Cu(II) are linked by four syn-syn carboxylate bridges, showing a paddle-wheel unit. The compound 5 is mononuclear and the metal center is coordinated to two PhOBz in monodentate form, two 4-Phpy ligands and one H2O molecule with slightly distorted square pyramidal geometry. Finally, the magnetic properties of compounds 3 and 5 have also been studied, confirming the different strength interactions between Cu(II) cations

    Single-Ion Anisotropy and Intramolecular Interactions in CeIIIand NdIIIDimers

    [Image: see text] This article reports the syntheses, characterization, structural description, together with magnetic and spectroscopic properties of two isostructural molecular magnets based on the chiral ligand N,N′-bis((1,2-diphenyl-(pyridine-2-yl)methylene)-(R,R/S,S)-ethane-1,2-diamine), L1, of general formula [Ln(2)(RR-L1)(2)(Cl(6))]·MeOH·1.5H(2)O, (Ln = Ce (1) or Nd (2)). Multifrequency electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), cantilever torque magnetometry (CTM) measurements, and ab initio calculations allowed us to determine single-ion magnetic anisotropy and intramolecular magnetic interactions in both compounds, evidencing a more important role of the anisotropic exchange for the Nd(III) derivative. The comparison of experimental and theoretical data indicates that, in the case of largely rhombic lanthanide ions, ab initio calculations can fail in determining the orientation of the weakest components, while being reliable in determining their principal values. However, they remain of paramount importance to set the analysis of EPR and CTM on sound basis, thus obtaining a very precise picture of the magnetic interactions in these systems. Finally, the electronic structure of the two complexes, as obtained by this approach, is consistent with the absence of zero-field slow relaxation observed in ac susceptibility
