    Global existence and blow-up of solutions for a general class of doubly dispersive nonlocal nonlinear wave equations

    This study deals with the analysis of the Cauchy problem of a general class of nonlocal nonlinear equations modeling the bi-directional propagation of dispersive waves in various contexts. The nonlocal nature of the problem is reflected by two different elliptic pseudodifferential operators acting on linear and nonlinear functions of the dependent variable, respectively. The well-known doubly dispersive nonlinear wave equation that incorporates two types of dispersive effects originated from two different dispersion operators falls into the category studied here. The class of nonlocal nonlinear wave equations also covers a variety of well-known wave equations such as various forms of the Boussinesq equation. Local existence of solutions of the Cauchy problem with initial data in suitable Sobolev spaces is proven and the conditions for global existence and finite-time blow-up of solutions are established.Comment: 17 page

    PubMed ID: 29933737Cyst hydatid (CH) is a zoonotic infection that is characterized by the development of metacestode form of Echinococcus granulosus primarily in liver of humans and ruminants. With a worldwide distribution, the infection is still considered as an important parasitic disease that threatens the public health in Turkey as in the other developing countries. Morphological and biological features of parasite fail to discriminate isolates for typing so molecular methods should be used for this purpose. Recently, a total of eleven genotypes of E.granulosus (G1-10 and lion strain) have been identified and these genotypes are highly correlated with host specificity of the parasite. The aim of this study, was to determine the genotypes of E.granulosus isolates from human samples in Aydın. Cyst fluids from CH operated cases in Adnan Menderes University Faculty of Medicine, Training and Research Hospital were used in the present study. Samples were washed with phosphate buffered saline (PBS) and stored in 70% ethanol at -20ºC. Mitochondrial cytochrome C oxidase subunit 1 (cox1) gene was amplified partially by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The PCR products were sequenced initially, compared to other database in Genbank and evolutionary distances were estimated with references. The genotypes of E.granulosus isolates were determined according to the closest or exact matches to the references. A total of 20 E.granulosus isolates were genotyped in the present study, most of them (15 isolates, 75%) were identified as Genotype 1 (G1), that is defined as sheep genotype and the remaining isolates were defined as pig/camel genotype G6/7 (five isolates, 25%). A possible explanation to our results May be related to the geographical position of Turkey. The identification of G6/7 in addition to sheep genotype G1 indicated that pigs and camels in this area have role in the transmission and distribution of E.granulosus to humans. There is still limited information about the molecular epidemiology of E.granulosus in Turkey. This study reveals the first data about the genotype distribution of E.granulosus in our city, therefore the findings May help to design control program for the disease with a combination of epidemiological data. © 2018 Ankara Microbiology Society.     Certolizumab pegol treatment in three patients with takayasu arteritis

    Although glucocorticoids are the mainstay of treatment in Takayasu arteritis (TA), anti-tumor necrosis factor agents are other treatment options in refractory disease. The onset of TA is generally observed in females of reproductive age. Certolizumab pegol (CZP) lacks a fragment crystallizable region and this gives advantage of minimal transfer through the placenta, which makes CZP a safer option in pregnancy. Although there are case reports and trials about use of infliximab, etanercept, and adalimumab in TA, there are scarce data about use of CZP.     Developing of health perception and psychosocial skills in disadventaged students: A school based interventional study from çanakkale [Dezavantajlı öğrencilerde sağlık algısının ve psikososyal becerilerin geliştirilmesi: Okul tabanlı bir müdahale çalışması]

    AIM: The aim of this study was to develop health perception and psychosocial skills in disadvantaged students in a primary school. METHOD: This interventional study was conducted in a primary school between May 2012 and June 2012 in Kepez, Canakkale within the context of “Consultancy Application in Primary Schools”as the first step of “From Local to Cambridge and NASA: Development of Canakkale Values and Promotional Awareness in Disadvantaged Students” (TR22.11.SK01.0111) project. Fifteen students with different disadvantages at the 5th,6th,7th,and 8th grades in the second semester were included in the study. Training studies were performed to develop psychosocial skills and health perception of students. These studies were performed at the school library twice a week for three weeks. In this study, socio-demographic, health perception evaluation and psychosocial skill evaluation forms were used as material. Study data were analyzed using by SPSS, 15.00 version. RESULTS: Most students (66.6%) were female. Statistically significant difference was defined in psychosocial skill developments of students between the median values measured three weeks apart (p<0.001). When examined responses of students to the health perception scale, it was observed that favorable attitudes of students were increased, whereas unfavorable attitudes were decreased in the measurements during the training. CONCLUSION: Students with disadvantages gained physical, psychological and social skills (being interactive; sharing, communicating, enterprising) features of leadership and social supporting as well as the development of health perception. Two students, who successfully completed these training activities in our study group, were chosen to the project camp. One of these two students, who successfully completed the activities in the project camp and past the final exam was accepted by science trip in the United Kingdom. In conclusion, professional group trainings at early ages may be helpful for developing characteristics of health perception, psychosocial skills, enterprising in disadvantaged students. © 2015, TAF Preventive Medicine Bulletin.     CFD modeling of the building integrated with a novel design of a one-sided wind-catcher with water spray: Focus on thermal comfort

    The rising energy demand for buildings has enhanced public awareness of sustainable energy sources and technologies. In particular, natural ventilation systems such as wind-catchers have attracted considerable new attention. A new wind-catcher design with single-stage direct-air evaporative cooling was proposed for indoor air conditioning. An Eulerian-Lagrangian approach employing the Realizable k-ε model was utilized to conduct the CFD simulations. Furthermore, the effects of inclining the bottom surface of the wind-catcher and installing a baffle across the flow path on the air temperature drop, water mass fraction, and air velocity distribution were studied. The inclined bottom surface led to more flow uniformity in the room compared to the conventional geometry. The baffled wind-catcher with β = 0, 30, 45, and 60° and unbaffled wind-catcher showed different flow patterns and thermal comforts. A methodology for evaluating the thermal comfort performance of evaporative cooling systems integrated into natural or passive cooling devices was also proposed based on the generated CFD results. The baffled wind-catcher with β = 60° combined with an evaporative cooling system significantly reduced the air temperature inside the building up to 17.4 °C and improved the occupants’ thermal comfort. The most suitable design for thermal comfort was also determined.</p
