Human Papillomavirus (HPV) belongs to the Papillomaviridae family and can contribute to Cervical Cancer (CC). The present study aimed to investigate the genotypic distribution and prevalence of HPV using Phosphate Buffered Saline (PBS) embedded tissue, a cervical swab and a cervical brush in Viral transport medium (VTM)  from women with different genital warts with no other disease in Mosul City/ Iraq. A total of 150 samples collected from women with genital warts infections were analyzed. A sequencing analysis of the amplified HPV L1 gene was made and compared with that of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). The existence of HPV nucleic acid DNA was examined in all samples by Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) using MY09/MY11 and GP+5/GP+6 primers, and then HPV genotypes were identified in Macrogen (Macrogen Co., Seoul, Korea) BioEdit (version 7.2.5.0). From 150 (cervical swab, brush, and tissue) patients with genital warts, the distribution of HPV genotype frequency in females with vaginal warts was 127 patients (84.6%),  10 patients (8%) with High-Risk (HR-HPV) serotypes (4%) of each HPV (16 and 45), while the rest 117 patients (92%) with Low-Risk (LR-HPV) included 60.5% HPV11, 20.5% HPV6 and 11.% HPV10.  For the first time in Mosul, Iraq, the study used PBS-embedded tissue from patients with various anogenital lesions to examine the prevalence and genotypic distribution of HPV.

Background: Medical waste is potentially hazardous, infectious, and toxic materials. It therefore requires special handling and disposal practices. Aims:  To determine: Impact of medical waste upon cleaning workers. Awareness of cleaning workers toward medical waste in Baquba teaching hospital Subjects and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among a random sample of (80) employees in Baquba teaching hospital in May 2011. Self-administered questionnaire which included occupational, organisational factors and sociodemographic variables was used. In addition, researcher observed collection, segregation, transportation, and disposal of medical waste at the hospital. Result: Most of the cleaning workers are younger age (35 year ), male 85%, the rate of illiteracy among cleaners in the hospitals was high 47.5%, the highest level of knowledge about hazard categories of medical waste had worked for (2–5 years), the cleaners are focused mainly on the sharps particles first degree, percentage who reported sharps as medical waste about 98%.  Conclusion: Most cleaning workers lacked sufficient awareness of impacts of poor clinical waste disposal and had never heard of any policy national or international on safe clinical waste management. Methods of collecting, segregating, transporting and disposing clinical waste at the hospital was poor

A Study of the Behavior of Shell Footings using Finite Element Analysis

    Get PDF
In this research, the conical shell foundation is investigated. The two components of the interacting system; the soil and the shell foundation, are modelled using the finite element method. In this study, 15-node isoparametric triangular axisymmetric elements with two degrees of freedom at each node are used to model the shell and soil. The soil-structure interaction between the footing and the supporting medium are modelled using interface elements. Comparison between the results obtained by the present analysis and those obtained by other investigations are made. The present analysis shows satisfactory results when compared with those obtained by other studies with largest percentage difference of 14% in the value of the ultimate load. Parametric studies have been carried out to investigate the effect of some important parameters on the behaviour of shell foundations. Three parameters are considered which are: semi-vertical angle, footing embedment and edge beam

NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF THIN BEAMS RESTING ON NONLINEAR ELASTIC FOUNDATIONS

The finite difference method is used for solving the basic differential equation for the elastic deformation of a thin beam supported on a nonlinear elastic foundation. A tangent approach is used to determine the modulus of subgrade reaction after constructing a second degree equation for load-deflection diagram. Results of plate loading test of soil obtained in Iraq were used in the analysis. An iterative approach is used for solving the nonlinear problem until the convergence of the solution. The method of analysis, as programmed for a computer solution, considers the continuous elastic, nonlinear foundation to be active only when the beam is pressing against the foundation. Two examples of with simply supported beams are presented to illustrate the application of the method of analysis
