Formation of Languages; Equality, Hierarchy and Teachers

    Get PDF
A quantitative method is suggested, where meanings of words, and grammatic rules about these, of a vocabulary are represented by real numbers. People meet randomly, and average their vocabularies if they are equal; otherwise they either copy from higher hierarchy or stay idle. Presence of teachers broadcasting the same (but arbitrarily chosen) vocabulary leads the language formations to converge more quickly.Comment: 10 pages, 3 (totally 8) figure

Yazarın mesajını, aynı kavramların benzer ifadelerle sık sık verilmesi esasına göre benimsetmeye çalıştığı yani tekrarlı baskılama tekniğini kullandığı iddia edilmektedirThe story of Soldier and Cinderella, analysed text, tells an humanistic interaction between an Israeli soldier and a little Palestinian girl. The language which used to explain this interaction is quite symbolic and meaningful. The narrative is based on the claim of misrepresentation the one of –Israel- two sides. In this study, we endeavor to decrypt the symbolic language used in the story and to read the hidden messages in the line breaks. We claim that the author tries to adopt his message, on the basis of repeating same concepts with the similar expressions, by the technique of repeatingly suppressio

Devil's staircase continuum in the chiral clock spin glass with competing ferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic and left-right chiral interactions

    Get PDF
The chiral clock spin-glass model with q=5 states, with both competing ferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic and left-right chiral frustrations, is studied in d=3 spatial dimensions by renormalization-group theory. The global phase diagram is calculated in temperature, antiferromagnetic bond concentration p, random chirality strength, and right-chirality concentration c. The system has a ferromagnetic phase, a multitude of different chiral phases, a chiral spin-glass phase, and a critical (algebraically) ordered phase. The ferromagnetic and chiral phases accumulate at the disordered phase boundary and form a spectrum of devil's staircases, where different ordered phases characteristically intercede at all scales of phase-diagram space. Shallow and deep reentrances of the disordered phase, bordered by fragments of regular and temperature-inverted devil's staircases, are seen. The extremely rich phase diagrams are presented as continuously and qualitatively changing videos

Stock mechanics: a general theory and method of energy conservation with applications on DJIA

A new method, based on the original theory of conservation of sum of kinetic and potential energy defined for prices is proposed and applied on Dow Jones Industrials Average (DJIA). The general trends averaged over months or years gave a roughly conserved total energy, with three different potential energies, i.e. positive definite quadratic, negative definite quadratic and linear potential energy for exponential rises (and falls), sinusoidal oscillations and parabolic trajectories, respectively. Corresponding expressions for force (impact) are also given. Keywords:Comment: 14 pages, 3 figures, scehudled for IJMPC 17/ issue

Interface-Roughening Phase Diagram of the Three-Dimensional Ising Model for All Interaction Anisotropies from Hard-Spin Mean-Field Theory

The roughening phase diagram of the d=3 Ising model with uniaxially anisotropic interactions is calculated for the entire range of anisotropy, from decoupled planes to the isotropic model to the solid-on-solid model, using hard-spin mean-field theory. The phase diagram contains the line of ordering phase transitions and, at lower temperatures, the line of roughening phase transitions, where the interface between ordered domains roughens. Upon increasing the anisotropy, roughening transition temperatures settle after the isotropic case, whereas the ordering transition temperature increases to infinity. The calculation is repeated for the d=2 Ising model for the full range of anisotropy, yielding no roughening transition.Comment: Published version. 4 pages, 5 figure

In this study, 3 different spice mixes were added just after blanching to mozzarella cheese produced by high moisture production method. The dough was kneaded and filled into to fibrous cases. After filling process, cheeses were stored for 28 days at 4 °C and 85 % of relative humidity. The following characteristics were measured: color parameters, milk acidity, total dry matter, maturation index, total aerobic mesophilic bacteria, coliform bacteria, coagulase positive staphylococci, lactic acid bacteria, species of Lactococcus bacteria, proteolytic bacteria, lipolytic bacteria and mold /yeast count were examined on 0, 5, 15,21 and 28 days after storage. Although L* (lightness) and a* (redness) values decreased during storage period, while moreover b* (yellowness) values increased. In addition acidity, dry matter and maturation index values increased during storage. Total aerobic mesophilic bacteria, lactic acid bacteria, Lactococcus spp., lipolytic bacteria and mold/ yeast counts decreased, but proteolytic bacteria count increased.U ovom radu istražen je utjecaj 3 različite mješavine začinskog bilja u proizvodnji mozzarella sira. Sirno tijesto gnječeno je i punjeno u sirne marame, i uskladišteno 28 dana na 4 °C i relativnu vlagu 85 %. Istraženi su parametri boje, kiselosti mlijeka, ukupne suhe tvari i indeks zrenja. Također je istražen ukupan broj aerobno mezofilnih bakterija, te broj koliformnih bakterija, koagulaza pozitivnih stafilokoka, bakterija mliječne kiseline, proteolitičkih i lipolitičkih bakterija, te kvasaca i plijesni. Mikrobiološke analize su provedene 0., 5.,15., 21., i 28. dana skladištenja. Intenzitet žute boje povećao se tijekom skladištenja sira, dok se intenzitet bijele i crvene boje smanjivao. Parametri kiselosti, suhe tvari i indeksa zrenja povećani su tijekom zrenja. Utvrđeno je smanjenje ukupnog broj aerobno mezofilnih bakterija, bakterija mliječne kiseline, Lactococcus spp., lipolitičkih bakterija te broja kvasaca i plijesni tijekom skladištenja, dok je broj proteolitičkih bakterija porastao

    Get PDF
Aim: The aim of the study is to examine the level of stress and coping strategies of dentistry students in Türkiye in terms of variables such as sleep, personality, alcohol consumption, and smoking. Methods: A questionnaire including socio-demographic questions, Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale, and COPE Inventory was administered to 293 students. Results: The students' Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale scores were 13.88±10.03, 14.60±8.98, and 19.41±9.64, respectively. Income perception and the dentistry-personality relationship were the largest stress factors. No significant difference was found between years in terms of stress level. Problem-focus and emotional-focus coping strategies were negatively correlated, while less-useful coping strategies showed positive correlation with Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale scores. While the students who reported their sleep duration as "adequate" showed high problem-focus and emotional-focus coping scores, they had low less-useful coping strategies and Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale scores. The students who deemed dentistry suitable for their personality had higher problem-focus and emotional-focus coping scores and lower low less-useful coping strategies scores. Although alcohol consumption and smoking were unrelated to stress, they showed positive correlation with low less-useful coping strategies scores. Conclusion: No difference was observed between the level and sources of Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale and the grade. Students utilizing effective coping strategies had lower stress than those using less-useful coping strategies. Therefore, dental education should include how to acquire and use effective coping strategies

Open borders, closed minds: the discursive construction of national identity in North Cyprus

The article investigates the discursive construction of a Turkish Cypriot national identity by the newspapers in North Cyprus. It questions the representation and reconstruction processes of national identity within the press and examines the various practices employed to mobilize readers around certain national imaginings. Using Critical Discourse Analysis, the article analyses news reports of the opening of border crossings in Cyprus in 2003, based on their content, the strategies used in the production of national identity and the linguistic means employed in the process. In this way, the nationalist tendencies embedded in news discourses, as well as discriminatory and exclusive practices, are sought out

Analysis of heat and mass transfer in the adsorbent bed of a thermal wave adsorption cooling cycle

Paper presented at the 9th International Conference on Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics, Malta, 16-18 July, 2012.A coupled heat and mass transfer analysis of the adsorbent bed of a thermal wave adsorption cooling cycle is performed. The adsorbent bed is modeled two dimensionally. Governing equations for energy, mass and momentum transfers are solved by Comsol Multiphysics simultaneously. Variations of temperature, pressure, adsorption capacity, equilibrium adsorption capacity and mass transfer coefficient for a finless tube adsorbent bed are presented with multicolored plots. Desorption process is simulated in the model. Results show that the adsorbent bed reaches the maximum cycle temperature uniformly after 5000s. Uniform pressure assumption can be used in the bed due to small pressure gradient during the process. Adsorption capacity decreases from 26.1% to 8.89% in 5000s. Temperature front progresses along the bed creating a thermal wave. The thermal wave length is needed to be short to enhance the bed effectiveness regenerating more heat between the beds of the thermal wave cycle. It can be concluded that a parametric study is recommended for a future work in order to investigate the effects of design and operational parameters on the dependent variables and thermal wave lengthdc201
