For medieval Christians, the figural, typological meaning is of the greatest importance in trying to make sense of historical events. There are not only figural meanings in the events of the past – i.e., those recounted in the Old Testament – that are fulfilled in the New Testament, but also in the events taking place after the life of Christ. Within this framework, the topic of God’s Face finds its meaning: the Holy Face is not only a relic, but also – or even primarily – a real figura

In the light of the extensive research on Horace's manuscript tradition and translations or adaptations done between the 16th and the 18th century, it is now necessary to study the translations and studies devoted to him in the 19th century. The present study presents a survey of the translations of the Ars Poetica in the early 19th century. Although Romanticism diminished attunement with Horace, editorial interest in his works remains considerable, and therefore a comprehensive research seems opportune

Along with musical compositions belonging to the Roman-Frankish chant (the so-called "Gregorian Chant" as such), the Vatican edition of the Roman Graduale publishes many pieces of Medieval and even later composition. In the 19th century many "later" items were printed as pseudo-Gregorian chant (see e.g. the well known Adeste Fideles). In the current editions, some traces of this "medievalising" practice are still detectable in the 1974 Graduale. It is important to realise that performing these pieces as if they were Gregorian Chant would be a forgery

In Epicureanism, "universe" is not "world". Our world "works" because it has its own rules, but within the universe as such many sets of possibly very different rules are perfectly possible. So our world has an internal meaning, but not the universe. Lucretius's text is compared with Heidegger, Montale, and Leopardi
