The Forced Non-Linear Schroedinger Equation with a Potential on the Half-Line

In this paper we prove that the initial-boundary value problem for the forced non-linear Schroedinger equation with a potential on the half-line is locally and (under stronger conditions) globally well posed, i.e. that there is a unique solution that depends continuously on the force at the boundary and on the initial data. We allow for a large class of unbounded potentials. Actually, for local solutions we have no restriction on the grow at infinity of the positive part of the potential, and for global solutions very mild assumptions that allow, for example, for exponential grow.Comment: 23 page

X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy from ions at charged vapor/water interfaces

X-ray fluorescence spectra from monovalent ions (Cs+) that accumulate from dilute solutions to form an ion-rich layer near a charged Langmuir monolayer are presented. For the salt solution without the monolayer, the fluorescence signals below the critical angle are significantly lower than the detection sensitivity and only above the critical angle signals from the bulk are observed. In the presence of a monolayer that provides surface charges, strong fluorescence signals below the critical angle are observed. Ion density accumulated at the interface are determined from the fluorescence. The fluorescent spectra collected as a function of incident x-ray energy near the LIII edge yield the extended absorption spectra from the ions, and are compared to recent independent results. The fluorescence data from divalent Ba2+ with and without monolayer are also presented

WγW\gamma and ZγZ\gamma production and limits on anomalous WWγWW\gamma, ZZγZZ\gamma and ZγγZ\gamma\gamma couplings with D0 detector

The recent D0 results on Wgamma and Zgamma production are presented. First, the cross section and the difference in rapidities between photons and charged leptons for inclusive Wgamma production in egamma and mugamma final states are discussed, then are the cross section and differential cross section as a function of photon transverse momentum for Zgamma process. Finally, I present the limits on anomalous WWgamma, ZZgamma and Zgammagamma couplings.Comment: 18 pages, 16 figures, review articl

Image retrieval with hierarchical matching pursuit

A novel representation of images for image retrieval is introduced in this paper, by using a new type of feature with remarkable discriminative power. Despite the multi-scale nature of objects, most existing models perform feature extraction on a fixed scale, which will inevitably degrade the performance of the whole system. Motivated by this, we introduce a hierarchical sparse coding architecture for image retrieval to explore multi-scale cues. Sparse codes extracted on lower layers are transmitted to higher layers recursively. With this mechanism, cues from different scales are fused. Experiments on the Holidays dataset show that the proposed method achieves an excellent retrieval performance with a small code length.Comment: 5 pages, 6 figures, conferenc
