Comment on Gauge-Independent Analysis of Chern-Simons Theory with Matter Coupling
It is shown that a recently proposed relativistic field theory of anyons is
mathematically flawed and also does not satisfy reasonable criteria for such a
theory.Comment: 4 page
Exploding bridgewire detonator simulator
Tests indicate that electric detonator simulators of the exploding bridgewire type will not fire as a result of the application of a direct current power of one watt for 5 minutes. The detonator also will not fire if the protective gap fails and the firing stimulus is inadvertently applied
Multi axes vibration fixtures
A simplified technique and apparatus are described for testing the effects of vibration on various material specimen. Particular attention was given to tests along the orthogonal vibrational planes in order to prove the strength of the item under extraordinary conditions to which it will be subjected
Tetherline system for orbiting satellites
A system for tethering one orbiting space vehicle to another was designed so that a tetherline between the vehicles is controlled by a motorized reel which in turn is controlled to deploy, retrieve, or maintain a constant line length while effecting a stabilizing influence on the line. This is accomplished by applying a tension to the line which takes into account the instantaneous length of the line, rate of change of the length of the line, and certain constants which vary depending upon the mode of operation, deployment, retrieval, or station keeping
Isolated unstable Weibel modes in unmagnetized plasmas with tunable asymmetry
In this letter, an initially unmagnetized pair plasma with asymmetric
velocity distributions is investigated where any unstable Weibel mode must be
isolated, with discrete values for the growth rates and the unstable
wavenumbers. For both a non-relativistic distribution with thermal spread and a
high-relativistic two-stream distribution it is shown that isolated modes are
excited and that, as the asymmetry tends to zero, the growth rate remains
finite, as long as the distribution function is not precisely symmetric.Comment: Comments: references adde
Phase conjugation method and apparatus for an active retrodirective antenna array
An active retrodirective antenna array wherein a reference array element is used to generate a phase reference which is replicated at succeeding elements of the array. Each element of the array is associated with a phase regeneration circuit and the phase conjugation circuitry of an adjacent element. In one implementation, the phase reference circuit operates on the input signal at the reference element, a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) output signal and the input pilot signal at the next array element received from a transmission line. By proper filtering and mixing, a phase component may be produced to which the VCO may be locked to produce the phase conjugate of the pilot signal at the next array element plus a transmission line delay. In another implementation, particularly suited for large arrays in space, two different input pilot frequencies are employed
Soluble field theory with a massless gauge invariant limit
It is shown that there exists a soluble four parameter model in (1+1)
dimensions all of whose propagators can be determined in terms of the
corresponding known propagators of the vector coupling theory. Unlike the
latter case, however, the limit of zero bare mass is nonsingular and yields a
nontrivial theory with a rigorously unbroken gauge invariance.Comment: 7 pages, revtex, no figure
Diffusion bonding of IN 718 to VM 350 grade maraging steel
Diffusion bonding studies have been conducted on IN 718, VM 350 and the dissimilar alloy couple, IN 718 to maraging steel. The experimental processing parameters critical to obtaining consistently good diffusion bonds between IN 718 and VM 350 were determined. Interrelationships between temperature, pressure and surface preparation were explored for short bending intervals under vacuum conditions. Successful joining was achieved for a range of bonding cycle temperatures, pressures and surface preparations. The strength of the weaker parent material was used as a criterion for a successful tensile test of the heat treated bond. Studies of VM-350/VM-350 couples in the as-bonded condition showed a greater yielding and failure outside the bond region
