Evaluation of CDSS for Drug Prescriptions Based on Success Measures.
OBJECTIVE: The Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) for drug prescriptions was developed by integrating the computerized physician order entry (CPOE) system to support doctors and pharmacists in making correct decisions on prescribing drugs in line with the prescription guidelines by the Health Insurance Review Agency (HIRA). The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of the CDSS with respect to system quality, information quality, and user satisfaction in reducing prescription errors. METHODS: The study was based on survey data from 38 hospitals that were using the CDSS for drug prescriptions. To identify factors influencing the performance of CDSS, multiple linear regression and chi-square analyses were performed. RESULTS: Regression analysis showed that the variables for system quality and information quality significantly influenced the overall system performance. Specifically, ease of understanding the results and terminology assystem quality measures significantly influenced user satisfaction. Furthermore, based on chi-square analysis, two independent variables (ease of understanding results and decision support functions) were statistically significant with respect to all four dependent variables (information satisfaction, system satisfaction, willingness to recommend to other hospitals, and drug safety). CONCLUSION: Based on this study, users should be educated to improve their understanding of the system, and system and information quality should be continuously monitored to improve user satisfactionope
Medico-Historical Study on Diabetes Mellitus
The author has made a review as to the improvement
of the knowledge on Diabetes Mellitus based on
the Korean classical literatures on medicine.
HyangΒ·Yak-Ku-Kub-Bang(JOO~;J&f.2;1i), the oldest
medical book published in 13th century (the reign of
King Kojong of Koryu Dynasty), shows,as the symptoms
of So-Kal(mm, thirsty sensation) polyuria and decrease
of body weight.
In Hyang-Yak-Chib-Sung-Bang(JllJl~~gl(;1i), published
in 1433(the reign of King Sejong of Lee Dynasty) is
added sweetness of urine to the above-mentioned
symptoms of So-Kal,
But. in Tong-Ui-Bo-KamOIHi.it), the most outstanding
medical book in Korean classical medicine
published in 1613(the reign of King Kwanghai of Lee
Dynasty), the descriptions on the symptoms of So-Kal
are far more close to those of Diabetes Mellitus of
modern medicine, compared with the descriptions in
Hyang-Yak-Ku-Kub-Bang and Hyang-Yak-Chib-SungBang.
The author. for this reason, chose Tong-Ui-Bo-Kam
to look into the knowledge on Diabetes Mellitus that
bears Korean classical medicine and to make a critique
on it in the view point of modern medicine.
The conclusions thus obtained are as following.
1) The etiology of So-Kal that thirsty is attributed to
heat and excess of positive spirit is but a very
primitive one_
3) So-Kal bears much resemblance in its symptoms Mellituswith
those of Diabetes Mellitus.
3) The fact that they recognized sweet urine in
So-Kal makes us feel if they used the urine test in
the diagnosis.
4) It's remarkable that they indicated furuncle and
loss of eyesight as the complications of So-Kat though
these are but a part of the whole complications of
Diabetes Mellitus confirmed in modern medicine.
5) There are. for the treatment of So-Kat many
prescriptions enumerated. single or compound form.
However. the author thinks that we have to expect
for the further pharmacological researches on the
medicinal plants included therein before we can tell
their efficiency

[μλ¬Έ]Recently the need of effective government controlled surveillance system of chronic disease becomes very high due to the rapid increase of aged population and healthcare cost.
The purpose of this study, as an initial stage of building the systemic registry and policy formation of chronic disease, was to collect the data on chronic disease and the understanding of medical doctors and general people.
The results of this study were the priority of disease, the factors of priority, registry type by disease, activated campaign of registry and method of registry development based on the opinions of users, clinic doctors and general people. Clinic doctors gave priority by hypertension, liver disease and diabetes mellitus while the general public gave heart disease, diabetes mellitus, digestive ulcers and hypertension. High healthcare cost was the number one factor of priority for the doctors and they prefer in order to collect the data actively by using C/S type of program with some incentives.
This study can be used for the future decision of designing government registry system and policy of chronic disease management.ope

A Study on the Emergency Treatments in Korean Classical Medicine -Particularly on Revised Synopsis of Emergency Treatments-
In olden days of Korea the government published, as
a kind of public -healths activity, medical books for
those living in rural secluded areas where no medical
man was available.
In the medical books thus published are included seven
kinds of handbooks on emergency treatments. Most of
them, however, have been lost or are now in the custody
of the Japanese authorities.
As to "Revised Synopsis of Emergency Treatments,"
we are fortunate to have found the 1st and 6th volume
in Korea out of the whole 8 volumes and to be able
to survey, though roughly, what was the emergency
treatments in those days.
The 1st volume consists of the general table of con.
tents and the treatments on apolpexic crisis, sudden interrupion
of respiration, high fever and so on which endanger
human life. In the 6th volume are lined up the
treatments in cases that men swallowed foreign bodies
or are sticken by them and that men are bitten by
wild or domestic beasts and others.
Looking around the general contents, in this handbook
are mostly described on medical, surgical, gynetocological
and pediatric diseases and a little bit on E.
N.T., ophthalmological and dental diseases, all of which
are those customarily seen in our daily lives.
For the treatments were applied mostly the simple
remedies which were easily obtainable. The treatments.
for apoplexic crisis, sudden interuption of respiration,
high fever are unreasonable and miscellaneous. However,.
in cases of drawning and trauma they knew through
experiences the treatments and drugs which seem to be
comparatively effective
