The author had studied the masticatory efficiency on three different types; on missing of the first molar, on replacing the missed first molar with crown & bridge and on natural dentition. This study was made from the parched soybeans as testfood by means of mesh technique.
As a result of this study on 25 of natural dentitions, 20 of crown & bridges and 25 of missing of the first molars, the followings were come out.
1. Masticatory efficiency of natural dentitions was 75.8%, that of crown & bridges was 66.4%, and that of missing of the first molars was 43.7%.
2. Difference of masticatory efficiency of crown & bridges to natural dentitions was 0.4%, that of natural dentitions to missing teeth was 32.1%, and that of crown & bridges to missing teeth was 22.7%restrictio

Comparative studies were performed on the infectivity, egg-laying capacity and antibody formation of the rats and dogs which were infected with parasite before or after the administration of ginseng extract, 10ใ/ใ/day for 10 days. As parasite, Ancylostoma caninum was used.
The results are summarized as follows:
The ginseng administered group, but not infected with hookworm, showed increase of total protein, though no changes in serum protein fraction were observed. Total protein in rats which were given ginseng extract after hookworm infection showed increases of total protein and beta and gamma-globulin.
Infectivity in the ginseng administered group was lowered, specially in the group which ginseng was given after the infection.
Egg-laying capacity also decreased by ginseng administration.
The above results suggest that ginseng enhance the resistance of animals to hookworm infection, antibody formation, but suppress the egg-laying capacity of the infected worms.restrictio

Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is known to be the leading cause of severe neonatal infections and also cause infections in pregnant women and adults with chronic underlying diseases. In addition, the frequency of GBS infections has been recently on the increase. However, there are few studies about GBS in Korea and the current status of GBS infections is not clearly identified. To identify the current status of GBS infections, this study has analyzed the isolation results and clinical importance of ฮฒ-hemolytic streptococci and GBS isolated from clinical specimens,
except for stool, obtained from the patients in the Severance Hospital in Seoul from January 1991 to December 1999.
Of 2,242 -hemolytic streptococci isolated, clinical records of 2,078 were available. GBS was the most common isolate found in 790 cases (38.0%), followed by group G and group A. The isolation rate of group B was increased from 29.1% in 1991 to 50.5% in 1999. The isolation rate of group A was considerably high in pus and respiratory specimens while group B was most commonly isolated from urogenital specimens. By gender, the isolation rate of group B was much higher in females than males (1.9:1), while other groups were more commonly isolated in males. By age
group, group B was the most common in patients under the age of one year or over age twenty. Especially for newborn babies, group B accounted for 72.7% of the total isolates.
Of the 790 GBS isolates, 35.6% were considered to have definite infection, 40.0% possible infection and 24.4% no infection. Of the 283 GBS infected patients, 56.2% had chronic diseases such as diabetes, malignancy, renal and liver diseases, in decreasing order.
In conclusion, among ฮฒ-hemolytic streptococci, GBS is two fold more commonly isolated than group A and that the isolation rate is on the rise. The study also found that GBS is much found in adult patients with chronic underlying diseases and that the isolation rate of GBS is remarkably high in newborn babies and the neonatal GBS infections are severe. Therefore, rapid microbiological diagnosis of GBS is necessary for a proper treatment of GBS infections.ope
The Competition of the Several Languages in EC, a Study of the Multilingual Model of Swiss
Since the treaty of Maastricht, bearing the European Union in mind, European Community(EC) has strongly advanced to a politic-economic unity beyond the level of a European single market taking on the characteristic of a customs union. In the radical movement of integrating various peoples with long histories, as well as different cultures and languages, however, the greatest difficulty with which common people are confronted is the problem of language. Even though the concept of a national boundary has disappeared, a language boundary still remains and thus the contact and competition among various languages is expected to be accelerated. Therefore, Swiss, where four national languages of German, French, Italian and Romanche are spoken, has been examined as a language model of EC. For Swiss is a multi-language federal government based on the so-called principle of territoriality which aims at the maintenance of the status quo among various language areas and the protection of linguistic homogeneity in each area. In particular, the districts of bilingualism in the linguistic boundary between the French area centered on Geneva and the German area centered on Zurich are the scenes of inequality where the importance of language is determined by economic power, political influence and above all the number of the language-speaking population
PCNT is critical for the association and conversion of centrioles to centrosomes during mitosis
A centrosome consists of a pair of centrioles and pericentriolar material (PCM). We manipulated expression of PCNT, a key PCM protein, and investigated roles of PCM in centriole behavior during mitosis. Deletion of PCNT had little effect on interphase centrosomes. However, centrioles in PCNT-deleted mitotic cells prematurely separated and frequently amplified, revealing that centrioles are limited within the spindle poles by PCNT during mitosis. It is known that specific cleavage of PCNT is necessary for centriole separation during mitotic exit. We observed delayed centriole separation in the GO phase when a non-cleavable mutant form of PCNT was removed or when PCNT was artificially cleaved by TEV protease. Furthermore, a daughter centriole converts to a mother centriole only after experiencing both mitotic exit and specific PCNT cleavage. Based on these results, we propose that a centriole pair disengages upon entering mitosis but remains associated with the surrounding PCM proteins throughout mitosis. During mitotic exit, specific cleavage of PCNT induces PCM disintegration.
