[์˜๋ฌธ] In Korea, there are at feast twenty five million patients with epilepsy, and epilepsy is a chronic disease lasting for many years or all of one's life. The majority of them are pessimistic and negative about their disease and have psychosocial and emotional problems because the attitude of the general population toward them is one of stigmatization. They must receive long-term care and medication, but this does not happen because of health behavior that emphasizes traditional conservertive therapy and also because of deficits in education about epilepsy. This study was based on research regarding health education that showed that previous group therapy, group education and group discussion and lead to increased understanding of epilepsy, and significntly improve self-Management, and positively change aspects of therapy, attitudes, and knowledge. Comprehensive group health education through group experiences which these patients can them effectively use to resolve health problem and which they can apply as a useful method to decrease the stigmatization of epilepsy have resulted in increased therapeutic health behavior. Therefore this researcher developed and applied a group health education program, and then evaluated the result for increased degrees of positive health behavior by the participants. The study further attempted to evaluate increased degrees of positive health behavior after participation in a group health education program which had been developed to promote health behaviors, and to analyze the relationship between the personal and illness history and health behavior of the participants. AS a research method, this study was a clinical quasi-experiment in which forty two of 72 epileptic patients who were attending a special clinic for patients wish epilepsy at S hospital were selected as the experimental group and received group health education for one time after a pre-test, and then phone contacts fifteen days later as a follow up about this education. The remaining 30 patients served as the control group. Treatment materials used were a small book of health education developed by the researcher and slides from the Korea Red Cross Association. The Effects of group health education were measured using a aquestionnaire on health behavior developed by the researcher. The collected data were analyzed by Chi-square test and t-test to test for differences between the two groups, and t-test to teat the effect of the group health education. The relationship between personal and illness history and health behavior were analyzed using One-Way ANOVA. The following is a summary of the result of this study. 1. A relationship between personal and illness history and health behavior indicated no significant differences. The hypothesis that the scores of health behavior of the experimental group given group health education would be higher than the control group without group health education was supported, therefore there is confirmation that positive health behavior of patients with epilepsy is increased by group health education. 2. A relationship was found for personal and illness history and health behavior for place of residence for personal history, and classifications of diagnosis in illness history. As a result of this study, group health education is seen as a nursing intervention for improving the therapeutic effects for patient with epilepsy. Group health education through group meeting is useful for sharing experiences, offering knowledge of epilepsy, and as a motivation to positive health behavior that can lead to self management.restrictio

Effects of a Network Program for Preventing Obesity of Patients Taking Antipsychotics or Antidepressants

    No full text
Purpose: This study was designed to investigate the effects of a network program to prevent obesity and improve dietary habits for patients taking antipsychotics or antidepressants. Method: Thirty-seven patients in two hospitals were assigned to a control group (21 patients) or an intervention group ( 16 patients). The intervention group was evaluated to analyze the effect of the network program for six weeks after the program. Result: There was a difference in the rate of increased body weight between the control group and the intervention group. Notably, the body weight of both groups before the intervention was significantly increased. However, after the intervention the body weight of the intervention group rarely increased, whereas, the body weight of the control group was significantly increased as expected. There was an observed difference in diet between the control group and the intervention group. After the intervention, caloric intake per day of the intervention group decreased. Also, the duration of the meal of the intervention group after the intervention was longer than before. Conclusion: The network program for preventing obesity and improving dietary habits of patients taking antipsychotics or antidepressants was effective. The study shows that a network program can be an important part of a nursing intervention in clinical practice.ope

[์˜๋ฌธ]This study was to find factors affecting atopy dermatitis condirion among the teenagers in 12 to 18 yeaer old. The teens for the study were limited to the group diagnosed with atopy dermatitis by a physician during the last year. The number of teenagers between 12 and 18 years old was 3,316 in the third Korea National health and nutrition examination survey. The number of the study subject was limited to 893. The study was to see if there were factors affecting the atopy dermatitis such as general characteritics, physical condition, and food consumption and to compare the subjects with the teens without atopy dermatitis. The results showed stopy dermatitis was satistically significant association with the pre-existing physical condition like allergic rhinitis and food allergy. And girls had higher risk of atopy dermatitis occurence than boys. Non-atopy dermatitis teens and atopy dermatitis teens had no difference in diet patterns. In conclusion, an allergic disease was also associated with other allergic diseases. The limitation of the study was the low response rate on food consumption question among the teens with the disease. The might be due to small the teens with the disease. Despite the limitations, the present study suggested that people with atopy dermatitis should be given a nutrition education program for better food selection and diet management for the condition.restrictio

[์˜๋ฌธ] This study was designed to identify the life experience of college students with schizophrenia, to evaluate their adjustment of college life. The research method included in-depth interviews, structured questionnaire and case study. Data was collected from June to November, 2002 at two university hospitals. The participants were 21 college students with schizophrenia. Content analysis revealed twenty five themes and six categories. Six categories and respective themes are as follows : interaction experience with family(contact deficiency, verbal interaction deficiency, conflict, support), interaction experience with friends(loneliness, difficulty making friends, withdrawal from friends, comfortable feeling with friends, seeking intimacy), experience of school life (difficulty with academic performance, motivation loss of school life, feeling of isolation, satisfaction with academic performance, urgent need for continuing academic performance), experience of everyday life (loss of interests, loss of feeling of reality, keeping balanced life style), experience of social role performance (powerlessness, enhancing self-esteem, sense of belonging as a social member), and experience of a mental illness (denial of self-recognition as a mental illness patient, despair due to mental illness, feeling of deterioration, accepting a mental illness, attaining new identity as a mental illness patient). Most participants reported more negative life experiences than positive ones. Most of them frequently reported difficulties were difficulties in academic performance and in making friends. The results of the case study with eight participants are as follows: They showed three life experience patterns during the course of college life. These patterns were the recovering course, deteriorating course, and fluctuating course. Three participants in the recovering course encountered the common themes of family support, seeking intimacy, satisfaction with academic performance, accepting a mental illness, and attaining new identity as a mental illness patient. Three participants in the deteriorating course encountered the common themes of verbal interaction deficiency, difficulty making friends, loneliness, difficulty with academic performance, motivation loss of school life, loss of interests, and despair due to mental illness. Two participants in the fluctuating course encountered the common themes of motivation loss of school life, loneliness, denial of self-recognition as a mental illness patient, and despair due to mental illness during deteriorating course, but they also encountered the common themes of seeking intimacy, positively accepting mental illness during the recovering course. And all of the case study participants reported the common theme of despair due to mental illness. On the subscales for college adjustment, there was a significant correlation between academic adjustment and social adjustment(p<002), academic adjustment and satisfaction of college(p<.007), and social adjustment and individual adjustment(p<.040). On the total score for college adjustment, the scores for academic adjustment and social adjustment were lower than general students. On degree adjustment to college, women had significantly higher scores than men. In the area of social adjustment, students who had the disease for less than fifty months had significantly higher scores than students who had the disease for longer than fifty months. In conclusion, throughout most of their lives the students in this study have met negativeness in both developmental characteristics and needs. This study may contribute to expanding basic knowledge about college students with schizophrenia. It supports the need for intervention programs that meet their actual experience according to developmental characteristics and needs. The experiences of participants who were in the recovery course are especially relevant to the development of intervention programs.ope
