A Study on the Manufacturing Practices for Establishment of Time-Based Manufacturing System

The purpose of this study is to identify manufacturing practices contributing to the timebased manufacturing system. The results of this study are as follows: First, manufacturing performances can be improved by strengthening time based manufacturing capabilities. Second, to build up the time-based manufacturing system, the following management practices in the area of organization and workforce are required. That is, active communication among functional departments, role expansion and empowerment of shop floor employees, use of active multifunctional teams, and flat management structure. Third, time based competitive capabilities can be strengthened by focusing manufacturing sysstem on delivery dependability and product flexibility. Fourth, to build up time-based manufacturing system, the following practices in the area of process such as preventive maintenance and concurrent engineering has to be strengthened
