Obtaining trendy information has emerged as an important issue as trends have been capturing and leading to reward and satisfaction for businesses as well as individuals. Instagram is becoming a place to share trend information related to lifestyle with social network focusing on photographs and videos. Despite the increased demand for practical use of the information in the Instagram and the actual usage behavior, there is a lack of understanding about how to search in the Instagram with mixed people, pictures, and tags. This study examines how the search behaviors of Instagram are centered on the main search purpose of the Instagram compared to the Web Search. To do this, we conducted two researches on search purpose and search pattern according to search purpose. First, in the purpose of retrieval purpose, we collected the retrieval purpose of web retrieval and instargram retrieval, and we looked at the difference in the nature of retrieval purpose. And the purpose of retrieval of the Instagram was derived. In addition, I saw how users are aware of web searches and differences and using Instagram searches. In the search pattern research according to the search purpose, we have seen how to input query words, browse search results, and evaluate and adopt information according to the main search purpose of the extracted Instagram. As for the input of query words, the characteristics of the use of query terms according to the purpose of searching and the inputting behavior of query words of users were examined. As for browsing the search results, which is the next step in inputting a query, users have seen how patterns of detail selection appear in the pile of photos given as an Instagram search result. As for the evaluation and adoption of information, we examined the criteria of user evaluation and adoption in the Instagram search, and examined what elements of the criterion are important according to the search purpose. The data for the purpose of the retrieval study were obtained through interviews of 160 retrieval contexts of 160 web retrieval records and 160 retrieval records of 32 participants who actively use the Instagram. Interview results are coded and categorized to divide the purpose of the search into three broad categories: 'Look up', 'Learn' and 'Investigate' . In the search purpose, the difference between the two searches was found in that the web search showed 'Look up' 70% and 'Instigram' was 'Investigate' 48%. In addition, we derive the retrieval purpose which shows a high ratio in the Instagram retrieval as compared with the web retrieval as the main retrieval purpose of the Instagram. As a result, I got the purpose of searching the main instagrams of 'checking stereoscopic information', 'checking trend', 'referring to shooting style', 'checking specific images',' checking temporal information '. The data of the search behavior research according to the search purpose were collected through video recording of 79 search behaviors from 21 persons who actively use the Instagram search, followed by post - reason explanations and interviews. We code 3,805 behavioral codes by the behavioral unit, and analyzed the code according to the subject of each research problem. As a result of the analysis, First, in the use of query words, users were able to select tags and people after inputting the first query and showed similar behavior as query change. Second, 'input type search' and 'suggested word selection type search' are important applications of query input. As for the result list browsing, it was found that there is a tendency of browsing the search result image pile in the Instagram search through the fact that the photograph selection of the form of expanding or modifying the subject is different according to the search purpose. Third, evaluation and adoption of the results showed that 'quantity', 'repetition', 'content', and 'quality of photographs' were the main factors to be considered in the instagram. This study has focused on the search in the Instagram, and has contributed to understanding the users by discovering the search behavior. This study analyzed the purpose and behaviors of the users of the Instagram, focusing on the information behaviors. And it is meaningful to find the medium of information retrieval in which the behavior of search result is more noticeable than the query input which is mainly handled in the existing search, and to reveal the search purpose and the pattern.
