With these analyses, This study is purposed to suggest political implication to manage police organization and human resource effectively by reducing emotional labor of regional police officers. A structured questionnaire was conducted to 179 police officers working at five regional police boxes in Seoul. The data was analysed through SPSS version 21.0. ANOVA and multiple regression model were used to test the hypothesis. The results of the research are summed up as follow : First, emotional labor consists of three dimensions in contrast with preceding research. Especially, attentiveness and emotional dissonance were turned out to be an unified conception. Second, the level of emotional labor was 3.17, and it is above normal(3.0). Therefore, it is empirically proved that regional police officers emotional labor exists. Meanwhile, emotional labor has nonsignificant difference in all demographic characteristics except gender. Third, it is proved that emotional labor has a meaningful effect on organizational effectiveness. However, each component of emotional labor has a different effect on organizational effectiveness. For instance, the frequency of emotional expression has positive influence on both job satisfaction and organizational commitment. On the other hand, it is turned out that variety of emotions and emotive dissonance have negative effect on the former and the latter. According to these proven conclusions, three policies can be proposed as followfirst, mental stability program should be developed to lower the level of police officer's emotional labor. Second, the conditions which staffs could work on autonomy and their own discretion should be created by relaxing regulation that police officers have unconditionally no exception to be kind.     Uremic Encephalopathy Associated with Bilateral Basal Ganglia and Cerebellar Lesion in a Non-diabetic Hemodialysis Patient

    Involvement of central nervous system is a well-known compication in uremic patients. However, development of acute extrapyramidal symptoms with bilateral basal ganglia involvement (acute basal ganglia syndrome), especially in non-diabetic hemodialysis patient is very rare. We report a case of acute basal ganglia syndrome in a non-diabetic hemodialysis patient. A 45-year-old man with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) on chronic hemodialysis treatment for the last 4 years was admitted due to generalized myalgia. On admission, the patient was found to have rhabdomyolysis and intractable metabolic acidosis. Nine days after admission, he suddenly developed dysarthria, lateralizing ataxia, and bradykinesia. Brain MRI demonstrated low and high signals in bilateral basal ganglia and cerebellar vermis in T1-weighted and T2-weighted images, respectively. Intensified hemodialysis treatment combined with general supportive therapy resolved the severe metabolic acidosis and the neurologic manifestations gradually improved. Follow up brain CT scan taken 3 months later showed decreased size of initial low attenuation lesions in bilateral basal ganglia and cerebellar vermis. Although no definite pathophysiology is yet established, severe metabolic disorder is believed to play an important role in development of acute basal ganglia syndrome. Correction of metabolic acidosis and hypoglycemia in our patient lead to improvement in neurologic manifestations and organic brain lesions. Our case suggests that severe metabolic acidosis and hypoglycemia in uremic patient may act as risk factors for acute basal ganglia syndrome even in non-diabetic patient.ope

    Congenital pancreatic duct anomalies result from an error in the complex developmental process. Congenital pancreatic duct anomalies may be categorized by their mechanisms into migration anomaly, fusion anomaly, and duplication anomaly. These ductal abnormalities have been implicated to be potential causes for both acute and chronic pancreatitis. We have recently observed a congenital anomaly of the pancreatic ducts in which bifurcated main pancreatic ducts drain through the major papilla in a 10 year-old boy presenting with recurrent acute pancreatitis. Although its causal relationship with acute pancreatitis is unclear, this kind of pancreatic ductal anomaly has not been found in the literature. (Korean J Gastrointest Endosc 2002;24:122-125)ope
