(A) Study on "Painterliness" through the recognition of flatness

현대회화는 예술의 자율성(automomy)을 바탕으로 그 이전의 회화와는 상이한 관점을 가지고 발전해 왔다. 종래의 회화는 원근법을 이용한 3차원적 공간을 2차원적인 평면으로 나타내기 위한 시각적 착시(optical illusion)에 주안점을 갖고, 대상의 재현에 회화의 목적을 두어왔었다. 반면에 현대회화는 독자적 영역 확립에 대한 자각을 통해, 회화를 재현의 의미를 넘어선 평면 그 자체로 인식하고 있다. 「자기 비판(self-criticism)」이란 반성의 태도에서 비롯된 모더니즘(modernism)은 회화에서 더 이상 환원될 수 없는 영역은 평면과 그 한계임을 받아들여 추상표현주의(Abstract Expressionism), 색면추상(Color-field Painting), 후기회화적 추상(Post painterly Abstract), 미니멀 아트(Minimal Art)등의 모더니즘 양식을 형성시켜왔다. 그러나, 그러한 평면인식은 '회화적 평면(picture plane)'과 '회화의 실제적 표면(literal surface of painting)'의 개념혼동을 가져왔고, 그로 인하여 미니멀 아트(Minimal Art)에 와서는 극도의 물질주의(materialism)로 치달아 예술을 예술과 비예술의 경계선까지 서게 하였다. 이러한 상황의 인식하에서, 본인의 작업은 회화의 순수성을 인정하는 과정을 통해, 회화로서의 고유한 가치를 찾고자 하는 의지에서 비롯된 것이다. 본인은 본 논문을 통하여, 본인의 작품에 전제되어 있는 모더니즘의 개념이 갖는 회화로서의 가능성을 그 이론과 특성의 고찰과정에서 찾아보고 작업활동의 기초로 삼고자 한다. 본 논문은 내용적인 면, 방법적인 면, 본인작품의 분석 등으로 나누어 구성되며, 먼저 내용적인 면에서는, 현대회화를 가능하게 한 '예술로서의 예술(art as art)'의 개념에 대하여, 그리고 본인 작품에서 평면성의 개념으로 받아들여진 회화적, 관념적 평면성(picture-plane)에 대하여 언급하고자 한다. 방법적인 면에서는 본인의 작품에 나타나 있는 grids 형태의 역할과 의의, edge 강조를 통한 평면의 인식형태에 관하여 서술하고자 한다. 그리고, 마지막으로는 대학원 과정동안 제작된 작품들을 객관적 시각으로 분석하고 재정리하여 앞으로의 작업활동의 발전기회로 삼고자한다.;Modern painting has developed with a different viewpoint from previous painting, based on the autonomy of art. Previous painting had seen the representation of objects as the purpose of painting, attaching importance to optical illusion which made us see three demensional space as a two demensional plane by using perspective. On the other hand, modern painting has recognized painting as a flat itself, no longer a mere representation, through self-consciousness about the establishment of an independent domain. Modernism, which was derived from a reflective attitude, for example self-criticism, has led to modernistic styles like Abstract Expressionism, Color-Field painting, Post Paintery Abstract, Minimal Art by accepting the fact that the domain of painting can be reduced no further than flatness and the delimitation of flatness. However, such a recognition of flatness has brought about confusion between the 'picture plane' and the 'literal surface of painting'. This fact let Minimal Art run up the extreme materialism, thus art had to stand on the boundary between art and non-art. In recognition of such situations, my works have resulted from efforts to search for the unique value of painting, through recognizing the purity of painting. In this thesis, I'll try to search for the possibility of modernism as painting, which relates to my work, by studying its theories and qualities. I want to be able to do further work according to the results of study. This thesis consists of a theoretical aspect, a methodological aspect, and analyses of my own works. At first, on the theoretical aspect, I'll talk about the concept of 'art as art' which made modern painting possible and the 'picture plane' which was accepted as the concept of flatness in my work. Next, on the methodological aspect, the role and significance of 'grids' in my paintings, and the form of recognition as flatness through the emphasis of edge will be stated. Investigation of Internal Waves Using Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR)

이 연구에서는 인공위성 원격탐사 시스템인 합성개구레이더(synthetic aperture radar, SAR) 영상자료를 활용하여 포항 근해에서 관측되어진 내부파(internal waves) 특성을 분석하고자 하였다. SAR 영상에 나타나는 내부파의 특징은 일반적으로 4-10개의 묶음(packet) 형태로 나타나며, 파정과 파곡의 형태가 심부 지형과 연관성을 가지기도 하며, 수백 미터에서 수 킬로미터의 간격을 갖는다. 이러한 내부파의 발생은 조석에 의한 흐름이나 선박과 같은 외력이 가해질 경우 밀도가 다른 수온약층의 경계부에서 발생되는데 이 연구에서는 SAR 영상자료를 활용하여 내부파의 특성 분석을 통해 향후 내부파의 발생 기작에 대한 이해와 해석을 위한 기초연구를 수행하고자 하였다.2

인공위성 원격탐사에 의한 허베이 스피리트호 유류 유출 탐지 및 모니터링 연구

광학과 마이크로파영상에 대해 유출 범위의 계산 및 해석 알고리듬에 대한 현재까지의 결과를 소개한다. 광학영상으로는 아리랑 2호 (다목적실용위성 2호, KOMPSATⅡ)) MSC(Multi Spectral Camera)자료가 사용되었으며, 합성개구레이더로는 ENVISAT ASAR, TerraSARX 및 ALOS PALSAR의 자료가 사용되었다.2
