Police Academy Training: An Evaluation of the Strengths and Weaknesses of Police Academies
The purpose of this paper is to give an overview of the historical and current protocols which have existed in police academies, with a focus on the gender issues being faced by female police officers. The development of the police force is examined, with explanation of the differences and developments aligning with each era of history. Next, current police practices are elaborated upon, emphasizing the difficulties women experience in becoming police officers and where the ideologies of the police academies originated. Finally, suggestions are given based on research findings in order to reduce the ideological divides that occur in the police force and increase the effectiveness of officersâ work in the community
Integrable properties of sigma-models with non-symmetric target spaces
It is well-known that sigma-models with symmetric target spaces are
classically integrable. At the example of the model with target space the flag
manifold U(3)/U(1)^3 -- a non-symmetric space -- we show that the introduction
of torsion allows to cast the equations of motion in the form of a
zero-curvature condition for a one-parametric family of connections, which can
be a sign of integrability of the theory. We also elaborate on geometric
aspects of the proposed model.Comment: 8 pages, 1 figur
Classical solutions of a flag manifold sigma-model
We study a sigma-model with target space the flag manifold U(3)/U(1)^3. A
peculiarity of the model is that the complex structure on the target space
enters explicitly in the action. We describe the classical solutions of the
model for the case when the worldsheet is a sphere CP^1.Comment: 11 pages, 2 figure
Complex structures and zero-curvature equations for sigma-models
We construct zero-curvature representations for the equations of motion of a
class of sigma-models with complex homogeneous target spaces, not necessarily
symmetric. We show that in the symmetric case the proposed flat connection is
gauge-equivalent to the conventional one.Comment: 8 page
The worldsheet low-energy limit of the AdS_4 x CP^3 superstring
We consider the AdS_4 x CP^3 IIA superstring sigma-model in the background of
the "spinning string" classical solution, which possesses two Noether spins. In
the limit when one of the spins is infinite there are massless excitations,
which govern the infrared worldsheet properties of the model. We obtain a
sigma-model of CP^3 with fermions, which describes the dynamics of these
massless modes.Comment: 41 page
Directing transport by polarized radiation in presence of chaos and dissipation
We study numerically the dynamics of particles on the Galton board of
semi-disk scatters in presence of monochromatic radiation and dissipation. It
is shown that under certain conditions the radiation leads to appearance of
directed transport linked to an underlining strange attractor. The direction of
transport can be efficiently changed by radiation polarization. The
experimental realization of this effect in asymmetric antidot superlattices is
discussed.Comment: revtex, 4 pages, 6 fig
