Kraniometrijske znaÄajke zeca obiÄnog (Lepus europaeus Pall.) s podruÄja sjeverozapadne Hrvatske i otoka Vira.
The family of hares (Leporidae) expresses significant variation of morphological features under the influence of environment and diet. The aim of this research was the craniometric analysis of hares from two different habitat types, in order to confirm the presence of different ecotypes of this species in Croatia. The hares were sampled in the area of the island of Vir (Mediterranean habitat) and north-west Croatia (continental habitat). Craniometric measurements were conducted on 27 adult skulls, 12 female and 15 male skulls. 12 skulls originated from the island of Vir and 15 skulls were from north-west Croatia. 25 skull measurements were made, of which 6 were on the mandible for each skull. The results of the research showed significant variations in skull measurements between hares sampled on the island of Vir and in continental north-west Croatia. Of 19 cranium measurements, 10 measurements indicated statistical differences at P<0.01, 3 measurements indicated statistical differences at P<0.05, and of the 6 analysed mandible measurements, 5 indicated statistical differences at P<0.01. Cranium measurements that varied significantly were greater for hares from north-west Croatia by 5.11 to 12.84%, and mandible measurements also tended to be greater by 7.18 to 16.70%. Variations in craniometric measurements according to sex were not significant for both sites. The results indicate the presence of different ecotypes of European hare in Mediterranean and continental habitats.Porodica zeÄeva (Leporidae) sposobna je pod utjecajem okoliÅ”a i naÄina prehrane oÄitovati znatne razlike morfoloÅ”kih obilježja. Cilj ovoga istraživanja je kraniometrijska analiza zeÄeva (Lepus europaeus Pall.) s dva razliÄita tipa staniÅ”ta, kako bi se potvrdilo postojanje razliÄitih morfoloÅ”kih varijacija (ekotipova) ove vrste u Hrvatskoj. ZeÄevi su uzorkovani na podruÄju otoka Vira (mediteransko staniÅ”te) i sjeverozapadne Hrvatske (kontinentalno staniÅ”te). Kraniometrijska mjerenja su provedena na 27 lubanja odraslih zeÄeva, 12 ženskog i 15 muÅ”kog spola. Dvanaest lubanja potjeÄe s podruÄja otoka Vira, a 15 s podruÄja sjeverozapadne Hrvatske. Na svakoj lubanji je izmjereno 25 mjera, od Äega 6 na donjoj Äeljusti. Rezultati istraživanja pokazali su statistiÄki znaÄajne razlike izmeÄu veliÄine lubanja zeÄeva koji žive na otoku Viru i onih koji potjeÄu s kontinentalnog dijela sjeverozapadne Hrvatske. Od 19 mjera lubanje, 10 mjera pokazalo je razliku na razini znaÄajnosti P<0,01, 3 mjere pokazale su razliku na razini znaÄajnosti P<0,05, a od 6 analiziranih mjera mandibule, 5 ih je bilo na razini znaÄajnosti P<0,01. Mjere lubanje koje su pokazale statistiÄki znaÄajnu razliku bile su veÄe na podruÄju sjeverozapadne Hrvatske od onih s podruÄja otoka Vira od 5,11 - 12,84%, dok su mjere donje Äeljusti bile veÄe na podruÄju sjeverozapadne Hrvatske 7,18 - 16,70 %. Nije utvrÄena statistiÄki znaÄajna razlika izmeÄu kraniometrijskih karakteristika meÄu spolovima unutar istog staniÅ”ta. Rezultati istraživanja govore da na otoku Viru obitava drugaÄiji ekotip zeca od onog na kontinentu

Clustering with Open Source Tools
U veÄini istraivanja obrada podataka predstavlja jedan od kljuÄnih koraka. U veÄem broju sluÄajeva struktura tih podataka nije unaprijed poznata, te je potrebno tijekom analize grupirati podatke u klastere te iz takve strukture donijeti zakljuÄke istraživanja. Danas se koristit vrlo veliki broj metoda za navedeni naÄin obrade podataka i razliÄitih alata pomoÄu kojih se te obrade izvrÅ”avaju. Razvijen je i veÄi broj alata koji su slobodni za koriÅ”tenje (engl. open source) Äija kvaliteta u sve viÅ”e sluÄajeva prerasta kvalitetu komercijalnih rjeÅ”enja. U radu Äe biti dan pregled jedne od najÄeÅ”Äe koriÅ”tenih metoda obrade podataka hijerarhijskim grupiranjem.
Zatim Äe biti predstavljeni slobodni alati koji se mogu koristiti za primjenu te metode (npr. CLUTO, R,...). Neki od alata su samostalne aplikacije, dok su ostali alati biblioteke
klasa koje se mogu jednostavno primijeniti iz nekog programskog jezika pomoÄu programskih suÄelja.Data processing represents one of the key steps during most research projects. In most cases structure of data to process is not known in advance, so it is necessary during the data analysis to group the research data into data clusters, from which research conclusions can be derived. Today large numbers of methods, as well as diverse set of software tools are used for data clustering. Many of such software tools are open source software, which in quality in many cases surpass the quality of many commercial software solutions. This paper will provide an overview of one of the most used methods for hierarchical data clustering, as well as overview of open source software tools for using the afore mentioned method (e.g. CLUTO, R). Some of the software tools are implemented as standalone applications, while others are implemented as libraries which can be easily invoked from within some other programming language development environment
RESULTS OF APPLICATION OF BASIC WORKPLACE SAFETY RULES ON THE REDUCTION OF WORK-RELATED INJURIES
Cilj ovog istraživanja je analizirati i usporediti prosjeÄnu godiÅ”nju stopu ozljeda na radu u tekstilnoj i graÄevinskoj industriji za razdoblje od 1997. do 2006. godine. Za istraživanje ozljeda na radu uzeti su podaci iz Äetiri tekstilne i dvije graÄevinske tvrtke. U statistiÄkoj analizi primijenjeni su hi kvadrat test i aritmetiÄka sredina za procjenu rezultata. UsporeÄen je broj ozljeda u obje gospodarske grane po danima u tjednu, po mjesecima i prema dobi dana. Rezultati istraživanja ukazuju da kontinuirana primjena preventivnih mjera zaÅ”tite na radu u znatnijoj mjeri može utjecati na smanjenje ozljeda na radu i produktivnost rada.SUMMARY: The purpose of this investigation is to analyze and compare the average annual rate of occupational injuries in the textile and the civil engineering industries for the period from 1997 to 2006. In order to investigate these occupational injuries, data was gathered from four textile and two construction companies. The chi-square test and the arithmetic mean were used as statistical tools in assessing the results. The numbers of injuries in both industry branches were compared by the day of the week, by the month and according to the time of day. The research findings indicate that the continuous use of preventive measures of occupational safety can considerably affect the reduction of occupational injuries and labor productivity
