Earthquakes in the length-spectrum Teichm\"uller spaces
Let be a complete hyperbolic surface of infinite type that has a
geodesic pants decomposition with cuff lengths bounded above. The length
spectrum Teichm\"uller space consists of homotopy classes of
hyperbolic metrics on such that the ratios of the corresponding simple
closed geodesic for the hyperbolic metric on and for the other hyperbolic
metric are bounded from the below away from 0 and from the above away from
(cf. \cite{ALPS}). This paper studies earthquakes in the length
spectrum Teichm\"uller space . We find a necessary condition and
several sufficient conditions on earthquake measure such that the
corresponding earthquake describes the hyperbolic metric on
which is in the length spectrum Teichm\"uller space. Moreover, we give examples
of earthquake paths , for , such that for , and for .Comment: metadata correction, the same version as befor
Bendings by finitely additive transverse cocycles
Let be any closed hyperbolic surface and let be a maximal
geodesic lamination on . The amount of bending of an abstract pleated
surface (homeomorphic to ) with the pleating locus is completely
determined by an -valued finitely additive
transverse cocycle to the geodesic lamination . We give a
sufficient condition on such that the corresponding pleating map
induces a quasiFuchsian
representation of the surface group . Our condition is genus
independent.Comment: 34 pages, 4 figures, extra explanations added, same theorem
The role of gender in the relationship between reinforcement sensitivity and aggression among adolescents
This study focuses on the relationship between reinforcement sensitivity and aggression
according to the combination of forms and functions of aggression (i.e. proactive overt,
proactive relational, reactive overt and reactive relational), and on the moderating role of
gender in this relationship. The survey included 656 adolescents (55.33% male) from the
city of Zagreb, Croatia. The results show that reward sensitivity has the highest relation
with proactive overt aggression, while punishment sensitivity has the highest relation
with reactive relational aggression. A moderator analysis shows that boys with high
reward sensitivity manifest higher level of proactive overt aggression than girls with high
reward sensitivity. Also, boys with high punishment sensitivity manifest higher level of
reactive relational aggression than girls with high punishment sensitivity. The findings
can help to improve the treatment of aggressive behaviour in adolescence by focusing on
reward sensitivity in relation to punishment sensitivity.peer-reviewe
A Thurston boundary for infinite-dimensional Teichm\"uller spaces
For a compact surface , Thurston introduced a compactification of its
Teichm\"uller space by completing it with a boundary
consisting of projective measured geodesic laminations. We
introduce a similar bordification for the Teichm\"uller space
of a noncompact Riemann surface , using the technical tool of geodesic
currents. The lack of compactness requires the introduction of certain
uniformity conditions which were unnecessary for compact surfaces. A technical
step, providing a convergence result for earthquake paths in ,
may be of independent interest.Comment: 42 pages, 3 figure
Assessment of Work Ability - Criteria and Practice
In occupations involving specific risk factors, the employer is required by law to have his candidates/ employees physically examined in the course of preāplacement/work, as a measure of health and safety protection. Upon examination, the occupational health physician issues to the employer a statement of the candidateās/employeeās suitability for work. Mandatory preāplacement and periodic medical examinations are also required for workers who may affect the health and safety of the public such as workers in public transportation or food processing. This paper looks into the implementation of regulations and actual practice in performing relevant medical examinations. One of the issues described is the determination of a workerās temporary disability. Practicing physician determines a disability and rates the physical impairment. She or he has to translate clinical information into a decision about whether a patient is able to work. This decision is the basis for healthcare compensation and benefits and requires knowledge not only of the illness or injury and the patient, but also of the job tasks and exposure. From the medical standpoint, it may be difficult to determine when a period of temporary disability has ended or if a degree of impairment has remained, and when the temporary partial or total disability has become permanent. The paper discusses the assessment of total or partial permanent disabilities based on the new Pension Insurance Act (1998) and the differences from earlier criteria, summarising the implementation of new regulations for years 2000 and 2001
Crowdfunding Success Prediction using Project Title Image and Convolutional Neural Network
Prediction of crowdfunding success is a challenging problem that has great importance for project creators and platforms. Although meta features, e.g., number of updates or backers, are widely used for success prediction, they are limited to time period after project posting where project creators cannot adapt their profiles. Because of that, ability to predict campaign success in pre-posting phase would significantly improve chance for project success. According to the theory, mostly used methods in this situation are those based on text features, while methods based on the influence of image modality on project success are rare. Due to this, in this article we propose deep learning-based method for crowdfunding success prediction in pre-posting phase using project title image. Experimental results show that image modality could be used for campaign success prediction. Proposed method obtains results comparable to competing methods from literature, but using only one image per campaign and no derived features. It is also shown that deeper convolutional neural network achieves better prediction performance
