Valuation of listed buildings for insurance purposes

Generally, the issue of valuation of listed buildings has been long discussed, probably because here more than anywhere else depends on perspective on the price of real estate, the purpose for which the price is to be determined and the type of price or value to be determined or set The perspective is in this case in the differences of views on the price or value of the property, which is quite inevitable given by the position of the respective subject that is involved in this area to solve the price problem. It is obvious that very different views on the cost of listed buildings will be held by the seller and the buyer, the buyer and the tax office representative, investor and the building office or national heritage institute representatives and of course the policyholder and the insurer

The Direct and Indirect Effects of Online Social Support, Neuroticism, and Web Content Internalization on the Drive for Thinness among Women Visiting Health-Oriented Websites

One of the debates about media usage is the potential harmful effect that it has on body image and related eating disturbances because of its representations of the “ideal body”. This study focuses on the drive for thinness among the visitors of various health-oriented websites and online platforms because neither has yet been sufficiently studied in this context. Specifically, this study aims to bring more insight to the risk factors which can increase the drive for thinness in the users of these websites. We tested the presumption that web content internalization is a key factor in this process, and we considered the effects of selected individual factors, specifically the perceived online social support and neuroticism. We utilized survey data from 445 Czech women (aged 18–29, M = 23.5, SD = 3.1) who visited nutrition, weight loss, and exercise websites. The results showed a positive indirect link between both perceived online social support and neuroticism to the drive for thinness via web content internalization. The results are discussed with regard to the dual role of online support as both risk and protective factor. Moreover, we consider the practical implications for eating behavior and weight-related problems with regard to prevention and intervention

An Inappropriate Preface to End a Seminar in Honour of Bedřich Loewenstein

The author approaches Loewenstein’s Víra v pokrok (Faith in Progress) from the perspective of an historian and researcher for whom the construction of history takes preference over reflections on it. As a mediaevalist he focuses on the starting points of Loewenstein’s book and the European idea of progress – namely, Christian ‘soterial’ history. The author relativizes the often schematic linking together of the ideas of Modernity and novelty, which began with the Modern Age. And using several examples, the focus of which is in the cultural milieu of the court of Charles IV, he demonstrates the use of their terms, meanings, and functions in the world of Late Mediaeval man

History with or without the Sparkle – Gloss in the Margin of the Next Discussion

Rozvoj výzkumu dějin výtvarného umění, nádherné knihy představující umělecké dědictví a především hojně navštěvované rozsáhlé výstavy začínají nacházet nezamýšlenou odezvu v širším historickém povědomí veřejnosti. The development of art studies research, superb books presenting the artistic heritage and in particular huge exhibitions with many visitors are beginning to find an unintended response in broad historical public awareness. This particularly involves artistic artefacts from the Luxembourg era which as pars pro toto have taken on the role of history-making agent. For the basic line to stand out properly it needed a contrast, i.e. Hussitism as a new Dark Ages, when instead of the likes of Hus and Chelčický iconoclasts and destroyers of sacred buildings came to the fore. What was at best only indirectly indicated in specialist works became fodder for cheap journalism

Twenty Years After the Velvet Revolution: Shifts in Czech Adolescents’ Perceptions of Family, School, and Society

Families and schools are traditionally seen as substantial socialization agents forming adolescents’ social values and their views of society. Special attention is paid to the question whether the relative importance of these influences remains stable in times of major social changes. In this study, two different generations of Czech middle adolescents are compared: (a) the “post-totalitarian” generation that grew up in the last decade of the communist regime and entered adolescence during the time of rapid political and socioeconomic changes (data collected in 1995) and (b) the current generation without personal experience with the communist regime, raised in a stable democratic society (data collected in 2010). Both groups of participants (total N = 2,127, aged from 14 to 17 years) were administered an identical questionnaire. First, we examined the changes in adolescents’ perception and evaluation of the society over the last 15 years. Today’s adolescents perceive society more as a community and their future orientations are more focused on materialistic and less on environmental values. While the emotional relationship between the children and parentsremains the same, adolescents learn a somewhat different message in the family, emphasizing self-reliance. School environment is perceived more as positive and engaging than 15 years ago. Second, we predicted adolescents’ social views and values from their assessment of family and school environment. Our results show that the effect of parental values on adolescents’ value orientations is higher in the current generation. Positive school environment contributes to the development of socially responsible orientations despite the changes in society
