AbstractThere is no available instrument which determines teacher candidates’ competences of web based collaborative learning. Our study has provided findings about teacher perceptions in Cyprus. This article describes the development, testing and application of a suitable instrument. Research data for the tests of reliability and validity was obtained from a sample of 300 teacher candidates from the education faculty of Near East University in 2010. The final version of Web based collaborative learning competence scale (WBCL - CS) includes dimensions seeking teacher candidates’ feedback on two facets of the web based collaborative learning. Sub-dimensions are defined as,“Using and development of materials” and “Material sharing and communication”. Validity has been established by the use of factor analysis. Internal consistency coefficient and reliability of the scale showed that this instrument can be used for the future studies. According to the results of this research teacher candidates exhibited above medium levels of competence towards web based collaborative learning

Technology is used to keep track of things and timing and make the best decision on the information available. Project Management (PM) has to offer through its various software and technical tools. PM software has always been compared to the traditional ways of libraries. If a library has always been compared to its traditional ways of doing projects, PM brings systematic strategies to the planned project of libraries from beginning to end. The main objective of this research is to find a systematic literature review on the software of PM, the -advantages of using PM in libraries, and the challenges faced by the libraries using PM. This research used the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) to illustrate the systematic literature review. The terms “Project Management” and (“library” OR “libraries”) were applied to the advanced research of the five databases: Ebscohost, Emerald, Scopus, WOS, and ScienceDirect were selected databases to ensure relevant studies were captured. The main finding from the research is that using Project Management software in libraries has many advantages, such as clarity of planning and a good understanding of technical tools and software, despite many challenges. It provides end-to-end planning and can be adapted to frequent changes to increase productivity and success. In addition, unlike other studies, this study indicates the missing gap in the literature, and it is hoped that it will guide the researchers

Bu çalışma, 02-05 Şubat 2012 tarihleri arasında Barcelona[İspanya]’da düzenlenen 4. World Conference on Educational Sciences (WCES)’da bildiri olarak sunulmuştur. The aim of this research is to determine the views and knowledges of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics teacher candidates who are studying non-thesis master's program at Institute of Science about the application of Project-based learning and its implementation in learning environment. In today's world, scientific knowledge is changing and being updated rapidly due to the developments in science and technology. In parallel to this development, Project-based learning approach could be used to teach ways of accessing knowledge instead of transferring knowledge. In order to determine the teacher candidates' views on project-based learning approach, a questionnaire consisting of 28 questions was prepared and teacher candidates were asked to answer the questions. In addition, the teacher candidates were asked to answer three open-ended questions to determine the difficulties encountered during the course, contributions of this course and to indicate the reasons for finding themselves sufficient or insufficient while managing a project related to their subject.Acad World Educ & Res CtrNear E UniversityCyprus Educ Sci AssocationBahçeşehir ÜniverisitesiAnkara ÜniversitesiHacettepe Üniversites

Bu çalışma, 02-05 Şubat 2012 tarihleri arasında Barcelona[İspanya]’da düzenlenen 4th World Conference on Educational Sciences (WCES)’da bildiri olarak sunulmuştur. The present study aims at discussing the potential of the Internet and computer-mediated artefacts for education. The understanding of digitalised and technology utilised education, which is the current trend of our age, is highlighted and some computer-mediated artefacts such as the so called modular object-oriented dynamic learning environment (MOODLE), the online virtual reality chatting game Second Life, and some others are introduced in a unified connection to show how they can be practically integrated in education, and how they can foster foreign language learning and practice, and intercultural communication. It is emphasised that the current situation of the physical conditions, and also the needs, interests and abilities of the new age learners should be considered more carefully to give education a correct direction in the future.Acad World Educ & Res CtrNear E UnivCyprus Educ Sci AssocBahçeşehir ÜniversitesiAnkara ÜniversitesiHacettepe Üniversites

    Intercultural communicative competence in ELT

Bu çalışma, 02-05 Şubat 2012 tarihleri arasında Barcelona[İspanya]’da düzenlenen 4. World Conference on Educational Sciences (WCES)’da bildiri olarak sunulmuştur.Based on a critical review of selected relevant studies and with a historical perspective, this discussion paper, as a piece of secondary research (Nunan, 1992, p. 8), aimed to point out where the world of language teaching is in terms of the competences that learners are expected to gain. It was determined that intercultural communicative competence, i.e. the knowledge, motivation and skills needed to interact effectively and appropriately with members of different cultures (Wiseman, 2002, p. 208), is currently the highly favored type of competence after the sequential dominance of grammatical (linguistic) competence and communicative competence. The major inference drawn from the review was that although a number of particular studies draw heavily on intercultural communicative competence, they are paradoxical or not clear about where and how they differ from the tenets of its much-criticized predecessor, i.e. communicative language teaching, and about whose culture is to be taught along with the language. Taking sides for a pedagogical philosophy predicated on intercultural communicative competence, the author concludes that this is still merely a set of beliefs and procedures in need of multidisciplinary research-driven clarification and maturation and in this respect, he refers to and discusses some fundamental principles and standpoints on which a new model based on intercultural communicative competence can be built.Acad World Educ & Res CtrNear E UniversityCyprus Educ Sci AssocBahçeşehir ÜniversitesiAnkara ÜniversitesiHacettepe Üniversites
