    AN INVESTIGATION OF DAMPING MODIFICATION FACTORS CORRESPONDING TO DIFFERENT DAMPING RATIOS FOR SDOF SYSTEMS

    The damping ratio is an important parameter in dynamic analyses and plays a key role in the design of building structures. Elastic response spectra are widely used in this design to describe the earthquake action in specific site classes. 5% damped response spectra are generally used for most of the conventional structures. However, other types of structures may not have a damping ratio of 5% and can have much lower or much larger damping ratios. The damping ratio is recommended at about 5% for concrete structures whereas it is estimated at 2% for steel structures. Tall slender buildings may have much lower damping ratios and low-rise buildings may be designed using much larger damping ratios than 5%. For these types of buildings, elastic response spectra are modified to account for different levels of damping ratios. This study proposes the damping modification factors (DMFs) which are computed using 5% response spectra as the benchmark. A strong ground motion set has been selected for the stiff site class and the displacement, pseudo-velocity, and pseudo-acceleration response spectra have been computed for single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) systems. DMFs have been obtained in terms of these spectra and 3%, 10%, 20%, and 30% damping ratios have been considered. Variations of DMFs with different damping ratios have been obtained graphically. It can be seen from the results that DMFs are sensitive to the vibration period of the SDOF system

    06.03.2018 tarihli ve 30352 sayılı Resmi Gazetede yayımlanan “Yükseköğretim Kanunu İle Bazı Kanun Ve Kanun Hükmünde Kararnamelerde Değişiklik Yapılması Hakkında Kanun” ile 18.06.2018 tarihli “Lisansüstü Tezlerin Elektronik Ortamda Toplanması, Düzenlenmesi ve Erişime Açılmasına İlişkin Yönerge” gereğince tam metin erişime açılmıştır.Bu çalışmada 2017-2018 öğretim yılında uygulanmaya başlayan yenilenen 5. sınıf Türkçe dersi öğretim programında öngörülen kazanımların gerçekleşebilirlik derecesine yönelik Türkçe öğretmenlerinin görüşlerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaçla araştırma, Kocaeli ili merkez ve ilçelerindeki ortaokullarda görev yapan 205 kişiden oluşan 5. sınıf Türkçe öğretmeni ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmanın verilerinin toplanmasında yenilenen 5. sınıf Türkçe dersi öğretim programı kazanımlarının gerçekleşebilirlik derecesine yönelik hazırlanan anket formu ve yarı yapılandırılmış öğretmen görüşme formu kullanılmıştır. Nicel verilerin analizinde bağımsız örnekler T-Testi ve ANOVA kullanılmıştır. Nitel veriler betimsel ve içerik analizi ile çözümlenmiştir. Araştırmada, öğretmenlerin Türkçe dersi öğretim programı kazanımlarının gerçekleşebilirliği konusundaki görüşlerinin cinsiyete, yaşa, hizmet yılına, eğitim durumuna ve mezun olunan bölüme göre anlamlı bir farklılık göstermediği, sadece erkek öğretmenlerin dinleme beceri alanına yönelik kazanımların gerçekleşebilirliği konusundaki görüşlerinin, kadın öğretmenlere kıyasla daha olumlu olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda Türkçe öğretmenlerinin görüşlerine göre yenilenen öğretim programındaki kazanımların gerçekleşebilirlik düzeyi %72, okuma ve dinleme beceri alanındaki kazanımların gerçekleşebilirlik düzeyi %74, konuşma beceri alanındaki kazanımların gerçekleşebilirlik düzeyi %64, yazma beceri alanındaki kazanımların gerçekleşebilirlik düzeyi ise %70 olarak belirlenmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda öğretmenlerin %90'ı okuma beceri alanı kazanımlarını, %87'si dinleme beceri alanı kazanımlarını, %80'i konuşma beceri alanı kazanımlarını, %76'sı yazma beceri alanı kazanımlarının öğrenci seviyesine uygun olduğu görüşündedir. Araştırmada kazanımların açık ve anlaşılırlığına ilişkin öğretmen görüşlerine göre okuma ve dinleme beceri alanı kazanımlarının %93'ü, konuşma beceri alanı kazanımlarının %87'si, yazma beceri alanı kazanımlarının %73'ünün açık ve anlaşılır olduğu belirlenmiştir. Araştırma kapsamında öğretmenler ile yapılan görüşmelerden elde edilen bulgulara göre yenilenen program kazanımları ile ilgili görüşlerin çoğunlukla olumlu yönde olduğu belirlenmiştir. While the directors of 43 private secondary school and 283 public secondary school existing in Kocaeli Province generating the universe of the research in 2017-2018 Educational Year, directors of 130 private secondary school and 620 public secondary school selected by the randomly sampling way generates the exemplification of the research. In the process of collecting data of the project, the control list of arrangements made in secondary school buildings for physically disabled students has been used. In the analyse of datas, beside descriptive statistical methods, also chi square test has been used. With the arrangements made in physical situations of schools, it has been examined in terms of disabled toilet, elevator arrangements; the disability situation of directors or their relatives, the in-service training directors got, the number of physically disabled teachers and students existing at school, the number of students and floors at school, construction date of school and becoming a private school or a public school. In the physical arrangements of school, the buildings constructed after the circular letter, existing physically disabled students and in which there are directors who have physically disabled relatives have been found more suitable. In the arrangements related to the toilets, the buildings constructed after the circular letter, existing of physically disabled teachers and students and in which there are directors who has a disability or disabled relatives have been found more suitable. Also, in the arrangements of elevator, the buildings constructed after the circular letter, existing of physically disabled teachers and that have a lot of floors have been found more suitable. It has not been seen any difference in the arrangements made according to the in-service training the school directors got and in the arrangements made according to the situation of being private school or a public school.     The Roles of Unique Product Development and Global Technological Competence in the Effect of International Entrepreneurial Orientation on Company Performance in International Markets: A Study on Born Global Companies

    The purpose of this study is to search the mediator roles of unique product development and global technological competence in the effect of international entrepreneurial orientation on company performance in international markets for born global companies. The study was conducted on born global companies which started its international activities in its first 7 years and operate in technoparks in Turkey. Data was collected by a questionnaire from 158 born global companies. According to the method proposed by Baron and Kenny, three models were created and compared with each other. The Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method was applied because it is more appropriate for complex models. According to the findings of the study, unique product development and global technological competence do not have mediator roles in the effect of international entrepreneurial orientation on company performance in international markets. However, there is a direct effect of international entrepreneurial orientation on company performance in international markets. Global technological competence has a direct effect on performance in international markets. On the other hand, unique product development does not have a direct effect on performance in international markets but unique product development has a direct effect on global technological competence

    Brucellosis in childhood: retrospective evaluation of 37 cases and review of the literature

    Introduction: The aim of this study is to evaluate the demographic, clinical and laboratory characteristics and treatment results of pediatric patients followed up with the diagnosis of brucellosis in our clinic.Methods: Patients who were followed up with the diagnosis of brucellosis in Kayseri Training and Research Hospital, Pediatric Infectious Diseases Clinic between October 2016 and December 2018 were retrospectively analyzed.Results: A total of 37 patients, 26 (70.3%) male, were included in the study. The mean age of the patients whose ages ranged from 1 to 17 years was 9.3±4.3 years. Unpasteurized milk and/or dairy products were consumed in 86.5% of the patients and 48.6% had a family history of brucellosis. Joint pain (75.7%) was the most common presenting complaint. In the laboratory evaluation, 8.1% of the patients had leukopenia, 2.7% had thrombocytopenia and 21.4% had ALT elevation. Doxycycline plus rifampicin (43.2%) was the most commonly preferred treatment regimen. Addition of aminoglycoside to initial therapy in hospitalized patients was statistically higher than in outpatients (81.2% vs. 23.8%) (p=0.001). During the follow-up, relapse developed in a total of 4 (10.8%) patients, 3 of whom were outpatients. There was no statistical relationship between the initial treatment regimen and relapse (p=0.418).Conclusion: In conclusion, brucellosis should be kept in mind in terms of differential diagnosis in patients who present with joint pain in our country and who have cytopenia and/or isolated aminotransferase elevation in their investigations.Keywords: Child, Brucellosis, Relaps

    Concise review: β cell replacement therapies in treatment of diabetes mellitus

    Metabolic rate of glucose uptake is generally controlled by a feedback mechanism covering islet β cells and insulinsensitive tissues, wherein tissue sensitivity to insulin influences the level of β-cell comeback. In case of insulin presence, β cells preserve standard glucose tolerance via enhancing insulin production. Even though β-cell dysfunction has a strong hereditary component, environmental alterations carry an important part as well. Current research methods have facilitated to establish the important part of hexoses, amino acids, and fatty acids in the development of insulin resistance and β-cell dysfunction, therefore more operative treatments to slow the progressive loss of β-cell function are required. Latest discoveries from clinical research deliver significant information about approaches to stop and treat diabetes and some of the adversative properties of these interferences. Generation of satisfactory numbers of pancreatic endocrine cells that work in the same way as primary islets is of supreme prominence for the expansion of cell treatments to cure. In this study, we focused on different techniques starting from islet and pancreas transplantations individually and ending on new therapies such as stem cell technology and bioengineering. We aimed to establish a comprehensive and detailed explanation of treatment perspectives for islet cell loss. This review is carrying a novel potential for enlightening the current treatments and future-based therapiesGlikoz alımının metabolik oranı, genellikle adacık hücrelerini ve insüline duyarlı dokuları kapsayan bir geri bildirim mekanizması ile kontrol edilir. İnsülin varlığında β hücreleri insülin üretimini artırarak standart glikoz toleransını korurlar. βhücre disfonksiyonunda kalıtsal bileşenlerin etkileri yüksek olsa da, çevresel değişikliklerin de önemli bir rol oynadığı gösterilmiştir. Güncel araştırma yöntemleri, insülin direnci ve β-hücre disfonksiyonunun oluşmasında heksozların, amino asitlerin ve yağ asitlerinin etkilerinin varlığını göstermekle birlikte, hücre fonksiyonunun aşamalı kaybını yavaşlatmak için daha etkili tedavilerin gerekliliğini de göstermektedir. Klinik araştırmalardan elde edilen sonuçlar diyabetin durdurulması ve tedavi edilmesi ve bu müdahalelerin olumsuz özelliklerinden bazıları ile ilgili önemli bilgiler sunmaktadır. Birincil adacık hücreleri ile aynı şekilde çalışan pankreatik endokrin hücrelerinin yeterli sayıda üretilmesi, iyileştirilmesi için hücre tedavilerinin genişletilmesi büyük öneme sahiptir. Bu derlemede, adacık ve pankreas transplantasyonlarından başlayıp kök hücre teknolojisi ve biyomühendislik odaklı yeni tedavi tekniklerinin incelenmesine odaklandık. Adacık hücre kaybı için tedavi perspektiflerinin kapsamlı ve ayrıntılı bir açıklamasını yapmayı amaçladık. Dolayısıyla bu inceleme, mevcut tedavileri ve geleceğe dayalı tedavileri aydınlatmak için açıklayıcı bir potansiyel taşımaktadır

    Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder: A Review

    Complex trauma is a diagnosis that occurs due to repetitive, long-term and interpersonal traumatic events and its symptoms are different from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Although many studies have been conducted on complex trauma for many years, it has not been accepted as a different diagnosis. The 11th Edition of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11), published by the World Health Organization in 2018, includes complex post-traumatic stress disorder, a new diagnosis, besides post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) under the category of “Stress-Related Disorders”. In addition to the three diagnostic criteria of PTSD (re-experiencing, avoidance, and hypervigilance), 3 new symptoms related to self-organization have been added to this new diagnosis, namely emotion dysregulation, problems in interpersonal relationships, and negative self-concept. In this review study, firstly, the differences in the diagnosis of PTSD according to DSM-5 and ICD-11 were examined. Then, the history, definition and differences between complex PTSD disorder and other disorders were examined. Finally, studies on the methods used in the treatment of Complex PTSD were reviewed

    Synthesis, characterization of a new polyacrylic acid superabsorbent, some heavy metal ion sorption, the adsorption isotherms, and quantum chemical investigation

    Poly(acrylic acid/Kryptofix 23-Dimethacrylate) superabsorbent polymer [P (AA/Kry23-DM) SAP] was synthesized by solution polymerization to remove Co, Ni, Cu, Cd, Mn, Zn, Pb, Cr, and Fe ions in water and improve the quality of the water. Kry23-DM cross-linker (1,4,7,13,16-Pentaoxa-10,19 diazo cyclohexene icosane di methacrylate) was synthesized using Kry23 and methacryloyl chloride. The characterization of the molecules was done by FTIR, TGA, DSC, and SEM techniques. The effects of parameters such as pH, concentration, and the metal ion interaction on the heavy metal ions uptaking of SAP was investigated. It was observed that P (AA/Kry23-DM) SAP has maximum water absorption, and the absorption increases with the pH increase. Adsorption rates and sorption capacity, desorption ratios, competitive sorption (qcs), and distribution coefficient (log D) of P(AA/Kry23-DM) SAP were studied as a function of time and pH with the heavy metal ion concentration. Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms of the P (AA/Kry23-DM) SAP were investigated to verify the metal uptake. Molecular mechanic (MM2), Assisted Model Building with Energy Refinement (AMBER), and optimized potentials for liquid simulations (OPLS) methods. were used in quantum chemical calculations for the conformational analysis of the cross-linker and the SAP. ∆H0 f calculations of the cross-linker and the superabsorbent were made using Austin Model 1(AM1) method. © 2020 by the authors.     AISI 2507 Süper Dubleks Paslanmaz Çeliğinin Hibrit Soğutma/Yağlama Yöntemleri Altında Tornalanmasında Yüzey Kalitesinin İncelenmesi

    Son yıllarda ekolojik soğutma/yağlama yöntemleri sürdürülebilir imalat için metal işleme operasyonlarında kullanılmaya başlanmıştır. Bu yöntemlerin başında ise birbirine göre üstün özelliklerin bir araya getirildiği hibrit soğutma/yağlama yöntemlerinin kullanıldığı çalışmalar ön plana çıkmaktadır. Bu çalışmada; AISI 2507 dubleks paslanmaz çeliğinin Minimum Miktarda Yağlama (MMY), kriyojenik soğutma (Kry) ve hibrit (Kry+MMY) soğutma/yağlama koşulları altında tornalanmasında, yüzey kalitesi incelenmiştir. İşlenen yüzeylerin kalitesinin belirlenmesinde yüzey pürüzlülük (Ra), iki boyutlu yüzey görüntüleri ve üç boyutlu yüzey topografyaları kullanılmıştır. Deneyler üç farklı soğutma/yağlama koşulunda (MMY, Kry ve Kry+MMY), kesme hızında (80, 120 ve 160 m/dak) ve ilerlemede (0,16-0,20 ve 0,24 mm/dev) gerçekleştirilmiştir. Deney tasarımında ve optimum koşulların belirlenmesinde Taguchi L27 tasarımı kullanılmıştır. Deneysel sonuçlara etki eden faktörler ve faktörlerin etki oranlarını belirlemek için varyans analizi (ANOVA) kullanılmıştır. Deney sonuçlarına göre yüzey kalitesi için optimum koşullar, Kry+MMY hibrit soğutma/yağlama koşulu, 160 m/dak kesme hızı ve 0,16 mm/dev ilerleme olarak belirlenmiştir. En iyi Ra değeri (1,151 µm) A3, B3, C1 koşulunda, en kötü Ra değeri ise (-2,861 µm) A2, B1, C3 koşulunda elde edilmiştir
