Pengaruh Aplikasi Gel Metronidazol Sebagai Terapi Adjuvant Paska Kuretase pada Periodontitis Kronis (Literature Review)
Chronic periodontitis is often characterized by the presence of periodontal
pockets. Scaling treatments, root planing, curettage and good oral hygiene will
eliminate inflammation and reduce pocket depth. The use of metronidazole gel as
a topical antimicrobial has a role in the healing of post-curettage periodontal
pockets. The purpose of this literature review was to determine the effect of
metronidazole gel application on post-curettage periodontal pocket healing in
chronic periodontitis.
This literature review uses the PICO method, namely PICO which stands for
(P) Population, (I) Intervention, (C) Comparison, (O) Outcome. The population in
this literature review is chronic periodontitis patients, the intervention is patients
with metronidazole gel antibiotic treatment, the comparison is that adjuvant
therapy is given metronidazole gel application and without metronidazole gel
application, while the results or outcomes to be obtained are the effect of
metronidazole gel application on the healing of periodontal pockets. post
curettage in chronic periodontitis. The initial search was carried out from
November to March 2021 through six search engines, namely: (1) Google Scholar
(2) PubMed, (3) ScienceDirect, (4) Wiley, (5) ProQuest and (6) Springer. The
keywords used in the search process were Metronidazole Gel, Curettage, Pocket
Healing, Chronic Periodontitis.
The results of this study indicate that the application of metronidazole gel
has an effect on the healing of post-curettage periodontal pockets. Metronidazole
gel has bactericidal properties that can kill anaerobic bacteria that play a role in
periodontal disease
