    A Faster Tableau for CTL*

There have been several recent suggestions for tableau systems for deciding satisfiability in the practically important branching time temporal logic known as CTL*. In this paper we present a streamlined and more traditional tableau approach built upon the author's earlier theoretical work. Soundness and completeness results are proved. A prototype implementation demonstrates the significantly improved performance of the new approach on a range of test formulas. We also see that it compares favourably to state of the art, game and automata based decision procedures.Comment: In Proceedings GandALF 2013, arXiv:1307.416

Children with at-risk tendencies are often left out of sight/ site/ cite because of their potential for academic and social failure. Like all children, children with at-risk tendencies have something of value to contribute to society and yearn for opportunities to show of their talents. The aim of this dissertation is to examine whether the well-known O'Connor and Arnold model for the analysis of English intonation can be applied to the analysis of Luxembourgish intonation. After defining the concepts of intonation as applied in this dissertation, the main points of several other important studies on English intonation are discussed. This is followed by a detailed explanation of why the O'Connor and Arnold model was deemed most appropriate and an overview of the main work on Luxembourgish intonation published to date. The methodology of the research is outlined in detail, and the research findings are discussed in depth. The adaptability of the O'Connor and Arnold model to the analysis of Luxembourgish intonation is discussed, and possible alterations are suggested

Detection and Characterization of Stress Symptoms in Forest Vegetation

    Get PDF
Techniques used at the Pacific Southwest Forest and Range Experiment Station to detect advanced and previsual symptoms of vegetative stress are discussed. Stresses caused by bark beetles in coniferous stands of timber are emphasized because beetles induce stress more rapidly than most other destructive agents. Bark beetles are also the most damaging forest insects in the United States. In the work on stress symptoms, there are two primary objectives: (1) to learn the best combination of films, scales, and filters to detect and locate injured trees from aircraft and spacecraft, and (2) to learn if stressed trees can be detected before visual symptoms of decline occur. Equipment and techniques used in a study of the epidemic of the Black Hills bark beetle are described
