Electronic Report Generation Web Service evaluated within a Telemedicine System

    Get PDF
This work presents a generic tool based on a client-server architecture that generates electronic reports helping the evaluation process of any information system. For the specific evaluation of telemedicine systems the defined reports cover four dimensions: auditory of the system; evolution of clinical protocols; results from the questionnaires for user acceptance and quality of life; and surveillance of clinical variables. The use of a Web Service approach allows multiplatform use of the developed electronic report service and the modularity followed in the implementation enables easy system evolution and scalability

Infraestructura tecnológica de servicios semánticos para la Web Semántica

    Get PDF
This project aims at creating a network of distributed interoperable semantic services for building more complex ones. These services will be available in semantic Web service libraries, so that they can be invoked by other systems (e.g., semantic portals, software agents, etc.). Thus, to accomplish this objective, the project proposes: a) To create specific technology for developing and composing Semantic Web Services. b) To migrate the WebODE ontology development workbench to this new distributed interoperable semantic service architecture. c) To develop new semantic services (ontology learning, ontology mappings, incremental ontology evaluation, and ontology evolution). d) To develop technological support that eases semantic portal interoperability, using Web services and Semantic Web Services. The project results will be open source, so as to improve their technological transfer. The quality of these results is ensured by a benchmarking process. Keywords: Ontologies and Semantic We

Transaction profile estimation of queueing network models for IT systems using a search-based technique

peer-reviewedThe software and hardware systems required to deliver modern Web based services are becoming increasingly complex. Management and evolution of the systems requires periodic analysis of performance and capacity to maintain quality of service and maximise efficient use of resources. In this work we present a method that uses a repeated local search technique to improve the accuracy of modelling such systems while also reducing the complexity and time required to perform this task. The accuracy of the model derived from the search-based approach is validated by extrapolating the performance to multiple load levels which enables system capacity and performance to be planned and managed more efficiently

Control of a multivariable web winding system

To guarantee a good productivity and a better quality of the industrial systems, it is necessary to know the evolution of its various parameters but also its operation mode. The main goal of this work is to carry out a study to improve a flatness control in a reversing cold rolling mill, precisely the web winding system part. We designate by a winding process any system applying the cycles of unwinding, transport, treatment and winding to various flat products. This system knows several constraints such as the thermal effects caused by the frictions, and the mechanical effects provoked by metal elongation, that generates dysfunctions due to the influence of the process conditions. For this installations type, the various automatisms functions, often very advanced, are realized in modular systems with distributed architecture. Our main goal is to obtain a precise thickness, with the best possible regularity. With this intention, we are preceded to the modelling and the control of the nonlinear dynamic behaviour of a web winding process

Using cooperatives ontologies for the customization of hybrid mediator interrogation process

    Get PDF
The explosion of information sources accessible via the Web created the need for mediation tools between users and heterogeneous information sources on the Web. However, the interface design of these mediators, with taking into account the wide variety of skills and knowledge of users, and the need for them to share their preferences, requires systems able to guide the user through the interrogation process. In this paper, we try to raise this challenge  by proposing, on one hand, the use of a cooperative ontology’s models, which adapt with the evolution of user’s profiles and the dynamic change of integrated sources, and secondly ensure sharing the knowledge between users which will facilitate analysis of information and improve the data quality research process in space  and time.

Disentangling the complexity of groundwater dependent social-ecological systems

    Get PDF
Groundwater resources are part of larger social-ecological systems. In this chapter, we review the various dimensions of these complex systems in order to uncover the diversity of elements at stake in the evolution of an aquifer and the loci for possible actions to control its dynamics. Two case studies illustrate how the state of an aquifer is embedded in a web of biophysical and sociopolitical processes. We propose here a holistic view through an IGM-scape that describes the various possible pathways of evolution for a groundwater related social-ecological system. Then we describe the elements of this IGM-scape starting with physical entities and processes, including relations with surface water and quality issues. Interactions with society bring an additional layer of considerations, including decisions on groundwater abstraction, land use changes and even energy related choices. Finally we point out the policy levers for groundwater management and their possible consequences for an aquifer, taking into account the complexity of pathways opened by these levers

Information system has become essential in every organization to ensure that the business processes are managed systematically and effectively. The information must be reliable in order to preserve the quality of the information. However, with the drastic evolution of technologies and business environments, the system is facing many challenges to sustain functionalities and the integration of the system’s applications between various types of machines. To cope-up with the changing technologies, organizations have to make some investments to upgrade their information systems to ensure the systems will keep on working in a long time-span. Some organizations have to redo the whole system to keep in pace with the latest technologies. This work has consumed so much time and the cost is quiet expensive. In this project, Student Information System Based on Service Oriented Architecture is developed. The system is implementing the Web Service technologies to create loosely-coupled applications.Web Service technologies have the capabilities of integrating various kinds of applications regardless of their technologies, operating systems and programming languages. In developing the system, Service Oriented Modeling Architecture is used. The Web Service is developed using Java programming language and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 for its back-end database

Evolution of a Web-Scale Near Duplicate Image Detection System

Detecting near duplicate images is fundamental to the content ecosystem of photo sharing web applications. However, such a task is challenging when involving a web-scale image corpus containing billions of images. In this paper, we present an efficient system for detecting near duplicate images across 8 billion images. Our system consists of three stages: candidate generation, candidate selection, and clustering. We also demonstrate that this system can be used to greatly improve the quality of recommendations and search results across a number of real-world applications. In addition, we include the evolution of the system over the course of six years, bringing out experiences and lessons on how new systems are designed to accommodate organic content growth as well as the latest technology. Finally, we are releasing a human-labeled dataset of ~53,000 pairs of images introduced in this paper

Using Semantic Recommenders for Personalized Recommendations

    Get PDF
With the ever increasing information overload on the internet, recommender systems have long become a necessity. The popularity of e-commerce sites is increasing by the day and an abundance of shopping sites are presenting users with an increasing number of choices. It has become a challenging task to meet expectations of customers to better understand their needs and provide them with information and suggestions of their interest. With the e-commerce field being fiercely competitive, businesses have started to feel the need of personalization which helps them in building customer loyalty [17]. Personalized recommendations can prove to be the most important aspect of the evolution of the recommender systems. Personalized recommendation services provide opportunities to promote new products, increase sales, click-through and conversion rates [18]. The use of semantic web technologies in recommender systems can effectively enhance the quality of recommendation. Semantic web has provided structured knowledge representation tools such as taxonomies, ontologies, powerful languages such as Resource Description Framework (RDF), Web Ontology Language (OWL), etc. which can be used to represent rich, complex knowledge about things and their relationships and query languages such as SPARQL, reasoning engines that can infer logical consequences from a set of assertions. Semantics enable machines to process natural languages in a manner close to human cognition and mimic human reasoning to a certain extent [12]. This can greatly help to generate personalized predictions in the recommender framework [6]
