Includes supplementary materialTo support the first line of effort stated in the guidance promulgated by the Chief of Naval Operations in January 2016, the 2016 WIC Workshop will explore robotics and autonomous systems – in particular how increased autonomy will enhance alternative fleet designs, including kinetic and non-kinetic payloads and both manned and unmanned systems. This effort will explore new naval platforms and formations – in a highly "informationalized” environment – to meet combatant commander needs. Small teams of junior officers from NPS and the fleet, and early career engineers from Navy labs, academia and industry will propose technologies and employment concepts in scenario based discussions. Teams will brief their conclusions to sponsors, industry executives, and senior officers on the final morning of the workshop, and these results will be disseminated to fleet commands. This CRUSER sponsored Warfare Innovation Continuum (WIC) workshop will begin with a day of knowledge leveling briefs, followed by two days of facilitated team concept generation work.     Digital Scrapbook – can we enable interlinked and recursive knowledge equilibrium?

    We investigate possible tools and approaches to develop a Digital Scrapbook, a virtual research environment inspired by the recursive nature of research for scholars where they can combine web and own resources into a new scholarly edition readily enabled for Open Access. Web resources are interlinked in the digital scrapbook by content capture and detail selection, rather than sole bookmark or link to resource URL, along with necessary accompanying metadata. We analyse several open source and commercial tools, with special focus on a Scrapbook-X Firefox Add-On, in order to match to desired Digital Scrapbook features. We further address the wider requirement context for development of such Digital Scrapbook environment, discussing both technical and user experience dimensions. We conclude with a recommendation on how to approach the development and operation of a Digital Scrapbook environment

    Web archives: the future

    T his report is structured first, to engage in some speculative thought about the possible futures of the web as an exercise in prom pting us to think about what we need to do now in order to make sure that we can reliably and fruitfully use archives of the w eb in the future. Next, we turn to considering the methods and tools being used to research the live web, as a pointer to the types of things that can be developed to help unde rstand the archived web. Then , we turn to a series of topics and questions that researchers want or may want to address using the archived web. In this final section, we i dentify some of the challenges individuals, organizations, and international bodies can target to increase our ability to explore these topi cs and answer these quest ions. We end the report with some conclusions based on what we have learned from this exercise

    What do U-Note? An Augmented Note Taking System for the Classroom

    International audienceWe present U-Note, a new system that helps children to study their lessons. It links a paper notebook and digital doc- uments in order to reconstruct the context of the class. This system makes it possible for students to browse the teacher's documents at the state it was when he wrote the words he is currently reading. The student can also add information he found on internet. We first discuss the interviews we had with teachers, that led to the design of the system. Then we describe the system itself, which consists of a capture sys- tem, and a browsing application
