Extreme value and Haar series estimates of point process boundaries
We present a new method for estimating the edge of a two-dimensional bounded
set, given a finite random set of points drawn from the interior. The estimator
is based both on Haar series and extreme values of the point process. We give
conditions for various kind of convergence and we obtain remarkably different
possible limit distributions. We propose a method of reducing the negative
bias, illustrated by a simulation
Values Generation: Turning Values into Wealth
Much of management behavior is focused on increasing benefits (usually thought of — in terms of Utilitarian ethics — as maximizing utility). Good, in terms of what increases benefits; thus, what is preferred by business is defined as the ability to motivate individuals in a way that increases desired outcomes (or that enhances organizational performance). This talent (referred to as the art of persuasion or the art of management) is valued because it facilitates achieving the desired results. Managers with such persuasive or motivational skills are highly regarded because of their ability to increase personal wealth, improve performance, and contribute to increasing stakeholder satisfaction.
However, as was made clear by Aristotle’s socio-economic ethics, a leader’s ability to generate higher levels of excellence is based on a character trait defined by Aristotle as magnanimous. Developing such a character is important because it is the key to enabling a person to get more of what he or she wants out of life and with such a character a manager/leader is able to motivate an organization to have improved performance. This article highlights the dynamics that are connected with how such characters contribute to enhancing organizational performance, how an individual obtains such character traits, and why such characters contribute to the prosperity of other individuals and of society
Virtues or Values? Behind The Values Controversy
The American Library Association (ALA) has initiated a process of defining the values of libraries. This process has influenced Christian librarians. For example, the Association of Christian Librarians (ACL) invited Michael Gorman, author of Our Enduring Values, to speak at its 2000 conference

Strange Weak Values
We develop a formal theory of the weak values with emphasis on the
consistency conditions and a probabilistic interpretation in the
counter-factual processes. We present the condition for the choice of the
post-selected state to give a negative weak value of a given projection
operator and strange values of an observable in general. The general framework
is applied to Hardy's paradox and the spin system to explicitly address
the issues of counter-factuality and strange weak values. The counter-factual
arguments which characterize the paradox specifies the pre-selected state and a
complete set of the post-selected states clarifies how the strange weak values
emerge.Comment: 17 pages, 1 figures, to appear in Journal of Physics
The Clash of Values Between April and Frank in Their Relationship in Richard Yates' Revolutionary Road
This article tries to reveal the clash of value between April and Frank as the main characters in Richard Yates' Revolutionary Road. Using the theories of gender role, power and motherhood, the analysis shows that April and Frank have different values even though they live in the same time, the1950s. The differences of values create a clash between them and it affects their relationship as husband and wife. April Wheeler as the strong character in this novel has modern values from her era while her husband expects her to follow the value of the1950s. These differences make them unable to fulfill their partner's expectation. It can be concluded that because their values conflict each other, they have difficulties in their marriage life
Unit Values
This paper investigates the scope of the unit value problem in household level expenditure survey data. I test whether self-reported prices vary with covariates thought to be important in household demand behavior. The paper then measures expenditure elasticity of quality for 196 different food aggregates. Approximately half of the expenditure elasticities estimated are significantly different from zero. Finally, a generalization of the standard quality demand regression is proposed, in which the expenditure elasticity of quality is allowed to vary over the range of total food expenditure. Some food aggregates display significant nonlinearities.Consumer/Household Economics,
