    Effects of foraging in personalized content-based image recommendation

    A major challenge of recommender systems is to help users locating interesting items. Personalized recommender systems have become very popular as they attempt to predetermine the needs of users and provide them with recommendations to personalize their navigation. However, few studies have addressed the question of what drives the users' attention to specific content within the collection and what influences the selection of interesting items. To this end, we employ the lens of Information Foraging Theory (IFT) to image recommendation to demonstrate how the user could utilize visual bookmarks to locate interesting images. We investigate a personalized content-based image recommendation system to understand what affects user attention by reinforcing visual attention cues based on IFT. We further find that visual bookmarks (cues) lead to a stronger scent of the recommended image collection. Our evaluation is based on the Pinterest image collection

    Strategies for the intelligent selection of components

    It is becoming common to build applications as component-intensive systems - a mixture of fresh code and existing components. For application developers the selection of components to incorporate is key to overall system quality - so they want the `best\u27. For each selection task, the application developer will de ne requirements for the ideal component and use them to select the most suitable one. While many software selection processes exist there is a lack of repeatable, usable, exible, automated processes with tool support. This investigation has focussed on nding and implementing strategies to enhance the selection of software components. The study was built around four research elements, targeting characterisation, process, strategies and evaluation. A Post-positivist methodology was used with the Spiral Development Model structuring the investigation. Data for the study is generated using a range of qualitative and quantitative methods including a survey approach, a range of case studies and quasiexperiments to focus on the speci c tuning of tools and techniques.     Comparing Decision Trees and Association Rules for Stock Market Expectations in BIST100 and BIST30

    With the increased financial fragility, methods have been needed to predict financial data effectively. In this study, two leading data mining technologies, classification analysis and association rule mining, are implemented for modeling potentially successful and risky stocks on the BIST 30 index and BIST 100 Index based on the key variables of index name, index value, and stock price. Classification and Regression Tree (CART) is used for classification, and Apriori is applied for association analysis. The study data set covered monthly closing values during 2013-2019. The Apriori algorithm also obtained almost all of the classification rules generated with the CART algorithm. Validated by two promising data mining techniques, proposed rules guide decision-makers in their investment decisions. By providing early warning signals of risky stocks, these rules can be used to minimize risk levels and protect decision-makers from making risky decisions

    The development of recommender system research has expanded to various applications. Recommender system issues can be analyzed from many perspectives such as user rating strategy, user preferences and text mining. User rating strategy and user preferences are associated with user behavior to find suitable recommended items. Text mining is considered the most related field to database management and web search queries. The relation to the database query, it needs suitable query algorithm web search and user profiling strategy. Our paper survey showed that Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA) method has a better chance to solve recommender system issues especially in web search and user profiling. By comparing with restaurant samples, we describe adequate measures to evaluate the recommender system quality in user profiling. Some algorithm can provide benefits to improve the quality of personalized recommendations that are tailored to user attributes. Further research can provide newer algorithm to handle cold start problem and sparse data from both text mining and mining computation perspectives
