Traditional and Health-Related Philanthropy: The Role of Resources and Personality

I study the relationships of resources and personality characteristics to charitable giving, postmortem organ donation, and blood donation in a nationwide sample of persons in households in the Netherlands. I find that specific personality characteristics are related to specific types of giving: agreeableness to blood donation, empathic concern to charitable giving, and prosocial value orientation to postmortem organ donation. I find that giving has a consistently stronger relation to human and social capital than to personality. Human capital increases giving; social capital increases giving only when it is approved by others. Effects of prosocial personality characteristics decline at higher levels of these characteristics. Effects of empathic concern, helpfulness, and social value orientations on generosity are mediated by verbal proficiency and church attendance.

Traditional Caddo Potter

Although I originally set out to find an art form that I was comfortable with and would be inspired by, for myself, I ended up discovering an ancient art form that would benefit not just myself, but the generations of Caddo people that would come after me. I feel that eventually they will see the benefit from its rediscovery. But also, I quickly realized the need to make public the distinction of our ancient pottery legacy for the sake of those Caddo that would pick up the craft. The Native American art world in the American Southeast is much different from that of the Southwest that I grew up loving. So many Native American artists are confused about what is their tribe’s specific legacy and traditional art form that many claim a broad spectrum of tribes in the region by creating artwork under the umbrella of “Mississippian” or “Southeastern Ceremonial.” It became apparent that the Caddo’s specific and unique pottery heritage is in danger of being misrepresented in the art world and to collectors. Making it all the more obvious was that I found out there was only one active Caddo member practicing pottery making, Jereldine Redcorn. I felt like although she was successful in reviving the lost art of our Caddo pottery, there is only so much one person can do and it was then that I decided that I could help expand and help spread our knowledge and our experiences so that our beautiful pottery tradition could be reborn and survive for all time, rather than become lost again in the earth

Experiences of Traditional and Non-Traditional College Students

This is a quantitative study of the experiences of traditional and non-traditional at the college level. The study results from a sample of 176 undergraduate students at the University of New Hampshire. Using a questionnaire, results show that there is a significant difference in the time spent studying and preparing for class between traditional and non-traditional students. The majority of non-traditional students spend upward of 6 hours each week preparing for class, where only half as many traditional students spend this much time. Results also show a significant difference in the social expectations both groups have upon entering college. Traditional students reported that their social expectations were exceeded, while the majority of non-traditional students reported having no social expectations for college. When looking at learning environment preference, results show that both traditional and non-traditional students prefer face-to-face classroom learning over online learning. Larger implications of this study show the importance of recognizing the needs of non-traditional students, as well as giving them a support system to allow a more enjoyable college experience

Analysis of Sundanese Traditional Spatial Concepts on The Space and The Layout of Cibiuk Bandung Sundanese Restaurant

Cibiuk Sundanese Restaurants have several analyzes about the influence of Sundanese traditional house patterns as a function of traditional restaurants. These influences can be assessed with a spatial, circulation, and material selection approach used in the interior elements. In this study, the types of users are divided into focus, namely the main users (users who use restaurant facilities) who experience directly whether the traditional Sundanese atmosphere feels strong or not when they come as visitors, whether it\u27s just for eating (enjoying the available menu), or when doing other activities such as discussing, or meeting, or celebrating. The convenience of the user when performing various activities can be felt from the results of the achievement of the atmosphere of the formation of space, so that to obtain the results of the formation of spatial elements and traditional space organizational patterns, can provide comfort and friendliness to visitors. The aim of this research is to finally find out the standard Sundanese traditional spatial concepts that are applied to the spatial and layout design of Cibiuk Bandung Sundanese Restaurant, by also comparing it with several other Sundanese restaurants, such as Sunda Bancakan and Sambara Restaurant. The results of this study can determine to which extent Sundanese cultural elements and values are applied to modern ethnic restaurants, which in this study will focus on Sundanese restaurants, so that they can produce design guides and reviews/ evaluations for young designers and general public in designing and building a modern ethnic restaurant.
