Platform for Testing and Evaluation of PUF and TRNG Implementations in FPGAs
Implementation of cryptographic primitives like
Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs) and True Random Number
Generators (TRNGs) depends significantly on the underlying
hardware. Common evaluation boards offered by FPGA vendors
are not suitable for a fair benchmarking, since they have different
vendor dependent configuration and contain noisy switching
power supplies. The proposed hardware platform is primary
aimed at testing and evaluation of cryptographic primitives
across different FPGA and ASIC families. The modular platform
consists of a motherboard and exchangeable daughter board
modules. These are designed to be as simple as possible to
allow cheap and independent evaluation of cryptographic blocks
and namely PUFs. The motherboard is based on the Microsemi
SmartFusion 2 SoC FPGA. It features a low-noise power supply,
which simplifies evaluation of vulnerability to the side channel
attacks. It provides also means of communication between the
PC and the daughter module. Available software tools can be
easily customized, for example to collect data from the random
number generator located in the daughter module and to read it
via USB interface. The daughter module can be plugged into
the motherboard or connected using an HDMI cable to be
placed inside a Faraday cage or a temperature control chamber.

An aerothermodynamic design optimization framework for hypersonic vehicles
In the aviation field great interest is growing in passengers transportation at hypersonic speed. This requires, however, careful study of the enabling technologies necessary for the optimal design of hypersonic vehicles. In this framework, the present work reports on a highly integrated design environment that has been developed in order to provide an optimization loop for vehicle aerothermodynamic design. It includes modules for geometrical parametrization, automated data transfer between tools, automated execution of computational analysis codes, and design optimization methods. This optimization environment is exploited for the aerodynamic design of an unmanned hypersonic cruiser flying at Mâ=8 and 30 km altitude. The original contribution of this work is mainly found in the capability of the developed optimization environment of working simultaneously on shape and topology of the aircraft. The results reported and discussed highlight interesting design capabilities, and promise extension to more challenging and realistic integrated aerothermodynamic design problems
Identifying Web Tables - Supporting a Neglected Type of Content on the Web
The abundance of the data in the Internet facilitates the improvement of
extraction and processing tools. The trend in the open data publishing
encourages the adoption of structured formats like CSV and RDF. However, there
is still a plethora of unstructured data on the Web which we assume contain
semantics. For this reason, we propose an approach to derive semantics from web
tables which are still the most popular publishing tool on the Web. The paper
also discusses methods and services of unstructured data extraction and
processing as well as machine learning techniques to enhance such a workflow.
The eventual result is a framework to process, publish and visualize linked
open data. The software enables tables extraction from various open data
sources in the HTML format and an automatic export to the RDF format making the
data linked. The paper also gives the evaluation of machine learning techniques
in conjunction with string similarity functions to be applied in a tables

Modeling software design diversity
Design diversity has been used for many years now as a means of achieving a degree of fault tolerance in software-based systems. Whilst there is clear evidence that the approach can be expected to deliver some increase in reliability compared with a single version, there is not agreement about the extent of this. More importantly, it remains difficult to evaluate exactly how reliable a particular diverse fault-tolerant system is. This difficulty arises because assumptions of independence of failures between different versions have been shown not to be tenable: assessment of the actual level of dependence present is therefore needed, and this is hard. In this tutorial we survey the modelling issues here, with an emphasis upon the impact these have upon the problem of assessing the reliability of fault tolerant systems. The intended audience is one of designers, assessors and project managers with only a basic knowledge of probabilities, as well as reliability experts without detailed knowledge of software, who seek an introduction to the probabilistic issues in decisions about design diversity
The interaction of lean and building information modeling in construction
Lean construction and Building Information Modeling are quite different initiatives, but both are having profound impacts on the construction industry. A rigorous analysis of the myriad specific interactions between them indicates that a synergy exists which, if properly understood in theoretical terms, can be exploited to improve construction processes beyond the degree to which it might be improved by application of either of these paradigms independently. Using a matrix that juxtaposes BIM functionalities with prescriptive lean construction principles, fifty-six interactions have been identified, all but four of which represent constructive interaction. Although evidence for the majority of these has been found, the matrix is not considered complete, but rather a framework for research to
explore the degree of validity of the interactions. Construction executives, managers, designers and developers of IT systems for construction can also benefit from the framework as an aid to recognizing the potential synergies when planning their lean and BIM adoption strategies
