Performance modeling of e-procurement workflow using Generalised Stochastic Petri net (GSPN)
This paper proposes a Generalised Stochastic Petri net (GSPN) model representing a generic e-procurement workflow process. The model displays the dynamic behaviour of the system and shows the inter relationship of process activities. An analysis based on matrix equation approach enabled users to analyse the critical system's states, and thus justify the process performance. The results obtained allow users for better decision making in improving e-procurement workflow performance

Improving Patch-Based Convolutional Neural Networks for MRI Brain Tumor Segmentation by Leveraging Location Information.
The manual brain tumor annotation process is time consuming and resource consuming, therefore, an automated and accurate brain tumor segmentation tool is greatly in demand. In this paper, we introduce a novel method to integrate location information with the state-of-the-art patch-based neural networks for brain tumor segmentation. This is motivated by the observation that lesions are not uniformly distributed across different brain parcellation regions and that a locality-sensitive segmentation is likely to obtain better segmentation accuracy. Toward this, we use an existing brain parcellation atlas in the Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI) space and map this atlas to the individual subject data. This mapped atlas in the subject data space is integrated with structural Magnetic Resonance (MR) imaging data, and patch-based neural networks, including 3D U-Net and DeepMedic, are trained to classify the different brain lesions. Multiple state-of-the-art neural networks are trained and integrated with XGBoost fusion in the proposed two-level ensemble method. The first level reduces the uncertainty of the same type of models with different seed initializations, and the second level leverages the advantages of different types of neural network models. The proposed location information fusion method improves the segmentation performance of state-of-the-art networks including 3D U-Net and DeepMedic. Our proposed ensemble also achieves better segmentation performance compared to the state-of-the-art networks in BraTS 2017 and rivals state-of-the-art networks in BraTS 2018. Detailed results are provided on the public multimodal brain tumor segmentation (BraTS) benchmarks
Search and Result Presentation in Scientific Workflow Repositories
We study the problem of searching a repository of complex hierarchical
workflows whose component modules, both composite and atomic, have been
annotated with keywords. Since keyword search does not use the graph structure
of a workflow, we develop a model of workflows using context-free bag grammars.
We then give efficient polynomial-time algorithms that, given a workflow and a
keyword query, determine whether some execution of the workflow matches the
query. Based on these algorithms we develop a search and ranking solution that
efficiently retrieves the top-k grammars from a repository. Finally, we propose
a novel result presentation method for grammars matching a keyword query, based
on representative parse-trees. The effectiveness of our approach is validated
through an extensive experimental evaluation
Workflow resource pattern modelling and visualization
Workflow patterns have been recognized as the theoretical basis to modeling recurring problems in workflow systems. A form of workflow patterns, known as the resource patterns, characterise the behaviour of resources in workflow systems. Despite the fact that many resource patterns have been discovered, people still preclude them from many workflow system implementations. One of reasons could be obscurityin the behaviour of and interaction between resources and a workflow management system. Thus, we provide a modelling and visualization approach for the resource patterns, enabling a resource behaviour modeller to intuitively see the specific resource patterns involved in the lifecycle of a workitem. We believe this research can be extended to benefit not only workflow modelling, but also other applications, such as model validation, human resource behaviour modelling, and workflow model visualization
Enhancing workflow-nets with data for trace completion
The growing adoption of IT-systems for modeling and executing (business)
processes or services has thrust the scientific investigation towards
techniques and tools which support more complex forms of process analysis. Many
of them, such as conformance checking, process alignment, mining and
enhancement, rely on complete observation of past (tracked and logged)
executions. In many real cases, however, the lack of human or IT-support on all
the steps of process execution, as well as information hiding and abstraction
of model and data, result in incomplete log information of both data and
activities. This paper tackles the issue of automatically repairing traces with
missing information by notably considering not only activities but also data
manipulated by them. Our technique recasts such a problem in a reachability
problem and provides an encoding in an action language which allows to
virtually use any state-of-the-art planning to return solutions
