Mitigating Risk Propensity in Healthcare Service Supply Chain: A Theoretical Background

    Get PDF
Comparatively both traditional manufacturing supply chain networks and service supply chain network faces multiple uncertainties that affects the growth, sustainability and performance of each particular network. Despite the significant hurdles that risk posses to business entities and its activities there have been relatively larger amount of studies considering this phenomenon in traditional manufacturing supply chain network as compared with service supply chain network. Due to this limitation or gap in the body of literature the study examines this phenomenon from a theoretical approach to outline relevant prepositions that can be tested empirical in further research. The theoretical preposition stated provides a clear direction to guide further research into risk management in healthcare service supply chain network. Keywords: risk propensity, risk mitigation, competitive advantage, collective risk managemen

Supply Chain Management Practices in Services Industry: An Empirical Investigation on Some Selected Services Sector of Bangladesh

    Get PDF
The aim of this study is to examine the supply chain management practices in services industry of Bangladesh. Study revealed that there are differences in practices between manufacturing and services industry with few counts like inventory management, logistics management and use of technology etc. Within the selected sub-sectors, there are differences in the level of practices in supply chain management with banking sector is the highest whereas in hotel industry the practice is the lowest. This study also investigates the effect of supply chain responsiveness in terms of operation system responsiveness, logistic process responsiveness, supplier network responsiveness and competitive advantage of the firm. On the basis of findings, strategic supply chain management practices should be implemented in more detailed ways in services industry of Bangladesh

Success Factors and Value Propositions of Software as a Service Providers – A Literature Review and Classification

    Get PDF
The contribution of the paper is twofold. First, an overview is given, which success factors and value propositions have been investigated in recent research in the context of software as a service. Subsequently an indicator of each factor’s relevance is provided by counting the number of nominations in the IS literature. Second, it offers a categorization scheme of the extracted factors according to Delone and McLean’s IS success categories. To identify the relevant factors a literature review is conducted including high-ranked journal articles and conference proceedings, which are then complemented by referred books. Performance is found to be the most important success factor, while cost saving is the major value driver of software as a service. Additionally, the results show that many value propositions of software as a service are realized on organizational level, while the most success factors to “run” the service can be found in the system quality category

Research on Coordinating Cloud Service Supply Chain Considering Service Disruption

    Get PDF
The risk of the implementation of cloud service and the worry about the failure of projects or strategies caused by service disruption is an important reason of low adoption rates of the cloud service. Service disruption not only directly affects the cloud service free trial results, but also leads to compensation to the consumers. The coordination problem between a CFP (cloud function provider) and a CIP (cloud integration provider) in a cloud supply chain is investigated, in which service demand is determined by the application free trial. Coordination Contracts are discussed in two kinds of situations, linked respectively to the information symmetry and information asymmetry. The results show that the cost and risk-sharing coordination contracts we proposed can realize optimal supply chain performance, and Pareto improvement of supply chain members’ profits. Reducing the service disruption probability and improving the level of service reliability are the key to the free trial. Besides, the compensation cost allocation enhances the scalability of cost allocation. Through numerical exploration analysis, effectiveness of the model is demonstrated and some managerial insights are obtained

Supply chain resilience and risk management strategies and methods

    Get PDF
Abstract. The changing global market due to Industry 4.0 and the recent pandemic effect has created a need for more responsiveness in an organization’s supply chain. Supply chain resilience offers the firm not only to avoid disruptions but also to withstand the losses due to a disruption. The objective of this research is to find out how resilience is defined so far in other literature and find out the strategies available to gain the resilience fit for an organization. First, in the literature review, the previous studies on resilience were studied to understand what supply chain resilience means. Then, the key results and findings are discussed and conclusions are presented. The research found some interesting strategies for gaining the resilience fit. The benefits and the stakeholders for each strategy are also pointed out. These strategies can be used according to the organization’s business strategy. These strategies aligned with the business strategy can make a huge difference to withstand potential disruption and gaining a competitive advantage against the market competitors

Transport On-Demand in a Service Supply Chain Experiencing Seasonal Demand: Managing Persistent Backlogs

    Get PDF
Successful transport-on-demand (TOD) requires having sufficient capacity in the right location to meet demand when it occurs. Consumer and recovery vehicle locations are variable, and the vehicle recovery service is contracted out in the service supply chain. This research aims to identify how different variables/factors influence backlogs during busy periods and service performance. A case study of a vehicle recovery company was undertaken using observation and analysis of historical data to map the process. Discrete event simulation (DES) was used to model several processes to evaluate the operational impact of changes. We find that ensuring complete and accurate information transmission over the chain supports the TOD service by enhancing the ‘allocation’ activity of the dispatch center staff; i.e., pairing vehicles to consumer requirements. Simple changes to how information is collected, shared, and used in the service supply chain can significantly reduce the percentage of jobs taking more than a given time

Development of a relationship management framework and related performance matrics for outsourced aircraft maintenance

    Get PDF
Driven by an intensely competitive world, the use of outsourcing is extensive and growing especially in the service business area. Outsourcing provides companies with benefits such as cost reduction and performance enhancement. Despite these advantages, companies need to be aware that successful outsourcing requires an appropriate long term strategy in managing the relationships with their providers. In turn, the providers have to develop collaborative relationships with their customers in order to improve customer satisfaction. Although relationship management of relevance to outsourcing is recognised as an important concept, it has not received attention from both practitioners and researchers, especially with regard to aircraft maintenance outsourcing which is considered to be critical outsourcing associated with high financial and strategic risks. Therefore, the aim of this research study is “to improve aircraft maintenance outsourcing through relationship management”. This research has been divided into three stages to achieve the research aim. The first stage related to an exploration of the key factors for the management of outsourcing relationship, starting with a review of the relevant literature. A multiple case study was then selected to investigate today’s practices of the management of the IT outsourcing relationship, which has similar characteristics to aircraft maintenance outsourcing. A questionnaire survey was also conducted to explore key factors of relationship management for aircraft maintenance outsourcing. With these three sources of evidence, a conclusive finding is that relationship management of relevance to outsourcing comprises six key factors which are clearly defined requirements, agreement, delivery governance, service delivery, performance evaluation and inter-organisational coordination. The second stage focused on exploring how the relationship between an aircraft maintenance provider and an aircraft maintenance customer is managed. The three cases study relationships featuring the four case companies were selected to carry out an in-depth investigation of relationship management for aircraft maintenance outsourcing. The researcher used interview, observation and documentation to collect data from these four case companies. The findings showed that the six key factors identified in the first stage influence the establishment and development of the relationship between the aircraft maintenance provider and customer. Moreover, external factors also have an impact on the way that both parties manage their relationship. The third stage was to develop a proposed approach to performance measurement which is viewed as a key factor of the management of the relationship between an aircraft maintenance provider and an aircraft maintenance customer. The researcher conducted an action research in cooperation with the main subject of this research. The study discovered that the gap model is applicable for performance measurement in aircraft maintenance outsourcing. The improved version of performance measurement model includes new performance metrics that are essential for monitoring the gaps between the provider and customer
