Bridging the Gap Between Human Language and Computer-Oriented Representations

    Get PDF
Information can be expressed in many ways according to the different capacities of humans to perceive it. Current systems deals with multimedia, multiformat and multiplatform systems but another « multi » is still pending to guarantee global access to information, that is, multilinguality. Different languages imply different replications of the systems according to the language in question. No solutions appear to represent the bridge between the human representation (natural language) and a system-oriented representation. The United Nations University defined in 1997 a language to be the support of effective multilinguism in Internet. In this paper, we describe this language and its possible applications beyond multilingual services as the possible future standard for different language independent applications

Multilingual search engine: implementation using UNL

    Get PDF
In this paper, I am proposing an implementation of multilingual search engine using a Universal Networking Language (UNL). As a local market for web is increasing there are increasing numbers of pages in native language of customers. So it becomes very important to search a information which is scattered in different languages and present to the users of different languages. In my approach UNL system, which is used for cross language access of information, is used by spider in search engine to find out pages in different native languages and converted into UNL before creating a indexing. Once index are created retrieval is same as monolingual retrieval

NLization of Nouns, Pronouns and Prepositions in Punjabi With EUGENE

Abstract Universal Networking Language (UNL) has been used by various researchers as an Interlingua approach for AMT (Automatic machine translation). The UNL system consists of two main components/tools, namely, EnConverter-IAN (used for converting the text from a source language to UNL) and DeConverter -EUGENE (used for converting the text from UNL to a target language). This paper highlights the DeConversion generation rules used for the DeConverter and indicates its usage in the generation of Punjabi sentences. This paper also covers the results of implementation of UNL input by using DeConverter-EUGENE and its evaluation on UNL sentences such as Nouns, Pronouns and Prepositions

Amazigh Representation in the UNL Framework: Resource Implementation

    Get PDF
AbstractThis paper discusses the first steps undertaken to create necessary linguistic resources to incorporate Amazigh language within the Universal Networking Language (UNL) framework for machine translation purpose. This universal interlanguage allows to any source text to be translated into different other related languages with UNL by converting the meaning of the source text into semantic graph. This encoding is considered as a pivot interlanguage used in translation systems. Thus in this work, we focus on presenting morphological, syntactical and lexical mapping stages needed for building an “Amazigh dictionary” according to the UNL framework and the “UNL-Amazigh Dictionary” that are both taking part in enconversion and deconversion processes
