    Internet of Things-Enabled Dynamic Performance Measurement for Real-Time Supply Chain Management - Toward Smarter Supply Chain -

Park, Jinwoo.Supply chain performance measurement has become one of the most important and critical management strategies in the pursuit of perfection and in strengthening the competitive edges of supply chains to face the challenges in todays global markets. To constantly cope with the resulting rapid changes and adopt new process designs while reviving supply chain initiatives and keeping them alive, an effective real-time performance-based IT system should be developed. And there are many researches on supply chain performance measurement system based on the real-time information system. This thesis proposes a standard framework of a digitalized smart real-time performance-based system. The framework represents a new type of smart real-time monitoring and controlling performance-based IT mechanism for the next-generation of supply chain management practices with dynamic and intelligent aspects concerning strategic performance targets. The idea of this mechanism has been derived from the main concepts of traditional supply chain workflow and performance measurement systemswhere the time-based flow is greatly emphasized and considered as the most critical success factor. The proposed mechanism is called Dynamic Supply Chain Performance Mapping (DSCPM), a computerized event-driven performance-based IT system that runs in real-time according to supply chain management principles that cover all supply chain aspects through a diversity of powerful practices to effectively capture violations, and enable timely decision-making to reduce wastes and maximize value. The DSCPM is proposed to contain different types of engines of which the most important one is the Performance Practices and Applications Engine (PPAE) due to its involvement with several modules to guarantee the comprehensiveness of the real-time monitoring system. Each of these modules is specified to control a specific supply chain application that is equipped with suitable real-time monitoring and controlling rules called Real-Time Performance Control Rules (RT-PCRs), which are expressed using Complex Event Processing (CEP) method. The RT-PCRs enable DSCPM to detect any interruptions or violation smartly and accordingly trigger real-time decision-making warnings or re-(actions) to control the performance and achieve a smart real-time working environment. The contributions of this dissertation are as follows: (1) building a conceptual framework to digitalize the supply chain, based on their strategic performance targets, deploying IoT technologies to convert its resources to smart-objects and therefore enable a dynamic and real-time supply chain performance measurement and management. (2) Demonstrating the feasibility of the DSCPM concerning performance targets by developing some practices and tool modules that are supplied with RT-PCRs (e.g., Real-time Demand Lead-time Analysis, Real-time Smart Decision-making Analysis (RT-SDA), Real-time Supply Chain Cost Tracking System (RT-SCCT), etc.). (3) Verifying the effectiveness of RT-PCRs in RT-SDA and RT-SCCT modules by building simulation models using AnyLogic simulation software.Chapter 1.     Currently, adaptation in a virtual enterprise is mostly reactive in response to variations that have already occurred. In order to remain profitable in the highly competitive global market, it is highly desirable to proactively adapt in anticipation of unplanned, but foreseeable high impact events, while still maintaining competitive product quality, cost, and lead-time. This paper approaches the problem by developing a unified model of product-supply chain systems based on networks of design-supplier pairs, and decision models of adaptation in the event of a jump based on real options theory.     Do Enterprise Systems Enable Supply Chain Integration?

    Features of ERP systems such as standardized business processes, data integrity, real-time availability, visibility and processing capability of information are expected to create an excellent backdrop for embarking on integration with external partners in the supply chain. This paper reports on the enabling role of ERP systems in achieving supply chain integration from an interpretive case study analysis. Study observed that the organization is slow in embarking on changes to the inter-enterprise processes and not taking full advantage of the high potential. Reasons noted for constraining role of ERP systems in achieving an effective supply chain integration are changes in power and organizational structures, inadequate integration of internal processes, limited flexibility of processes, lack of decision support capability of the ERP system, and general inertia for further changes consequent to ERP implementation. In addition other factors such as supply chain partners inability to take a holistic view, complexity of developing technology interfaces, industry characteristics, and lack of information technology sophistication of the smaller partners are also limiting the potential

    The Use of RFID Based Supply Chain Systems in Data Centers for the Improvement of the Performance of Financial Institutions

    The advancement of RFID technology has been viewed by many as one of the most beneficial developments in the business world. Furthermore, the progress in this technology has motivated software and hardware manufacturers to leverage RFID capability and drive the adoption of RFID in the data center market. RFID technology holds promise in transforming supply chain management by providing real time intelligence for tracking enterprise assets. As it stands, the objective of RFID is to manage the entire life cycle of an asset by determining the time of initial asset acquisition, the asset's physical location, the asset's movement within a data center and the time of the asset’s ultimate decommission. In addition, RFID is also capable of managing the motion of devices in and between data centers thus enhancing the ability to forecast data center capacity. Although data centers has been readily adopted and implemented in commercial sectors such as the retail environment, its introduction and implementation in the financial market sector has not occurred with similar speed and enthusiasm, suggesting presence of some reluctance. However, financial institutions are being under pressure from clients in order to provide real-time financial data and are looking at data centers integrated with RFID based supply chain systems for this purpose. The motivation for the present study arises from the growing body of literature which has examined the contribution of RFID supply chain systems in data centers and the motivation of financial institutions to use these data centers in order to become more competitive in the market.     Supply Chain Management analysis: a simulation approach of the Value Chain Operations Reference model (VCOR)

    International audienceThe impact of globalization and worldwide competition has forced firms to modify their strategies towards a real time operation with respect to customer's requirements. This behaviour, together with the communication possibilities offered by the actual Information and Communication Technologies, allows the top management to move towards the concept of extended enterprise in which a collaborative link is established among suppliers, commercial partners and customers. When the information flows involve each actor of the chain, from suppliers to the final distribution centers, the extended enterprise becomes a virtual firm, that can be defined as a set of stand-alone operational units that acts to reconfigure themselves as a value chain in order to adapt to the business opportunities given by the market. The present work is intended to verify through a simulation approach the quantitative advantages that can be obtained by the introduction of the Value Chain concept into the Supply Chain Management (SCM). The paper, after a description of the two most known (SCM) methods - SCOR and VCOR - makes a comparison between them by the customer's point of view. In the second part of the work a simulation model has been developed to verify the advantage that the VCOR is able to obtain, validating it on an industrial case study
