The Essence of Form Abstraction
grant number EP/D046769/1Abstraction is the cornerstone of high-level programming; HTML forms are the principal medium of web interaction. However, most web programming environments do not support abstraction of form components, leading to a lack of compositionality. Using a semantics based on idioms, we show how to support compositional form construction and give a convenient syntax.

Salvaging the Past: A Composition Portfolio
An overriding and important discussion in Western art music centres around abstraction: in the nineteenth century, the debate considered whether or not 'absolute music' could represent the very essence of being human; twentieth-century abstraction concerned itself with the removal of any form of melodic or harmonic implications and was employed to reflect societal unease with the bourgeoisie, and eradicate Fascistic connotations. Towards the latter part of the twentieth century, composers became concerned with peppering abstraction with historical reference, and it is this manifestation of abstraction which interests me most. This portfolio of six original compositions takes as its starting point the differences and similarities between British and mainland-European attitudes to past ideals. I use these contrasting approaches to inform my own compositions, which employ reference and quotation from past styles as a comment on contemporary society
"Seni Teks" Dalam Prespektif Dunia Virtual
If that is the priority in weighing the mind and exploring the core of the perspective of thinking, of course, will move on to a "statement". Where the platform of thought will be the entrance and open a gap for other thoughts, because the thinking perspective finds the value of "abstract". The context of thinking is more about extracting the essence of thinking, so the value of art becomes abstract. The reality of the meaning of art is not only a question of form, but more than that, art will play freely about form. The basic theory of writing, using a qualitative frame of mind, using a curatorial approach. The form of virtue in art is actually not based on purely aesthetic values, but the depth of ideas as a way of "enlightenment" to determine the direction where we should be oriented. The result of this thought is, the continuity of artistic value is certainly constructed by; Awareness of the value of intensity, ethics-technique, psychology and full awareness of the essence of ideas (philosophy of art). So the perspective of virtue in art is the awareness of thinking about the abstraction of the universe itself, which is manifested in the form of works, namely the work of two dimensions of Text Art
Amplification of intimate impressions of nature through the flower
1979 Spring.Supplement zip file includes list of slides and 42 slides of artwork. There is a line of continuity in nature. This continuity is made up of cadence, a rise and fall of intensity, and rhythm, a certain relativity of proportion. I am using cadence and rhythm as concepts, and by applying the abstraction of nature to them, the basis for my personal statement in painting is formed. The flower is my chosen image. Its life is short, it is delicate and it suggests animated form. By magnifying the flower and using it as the skeletal framework, the elements of form, line and color portray its exclusive spirit. The essence of the spirit is defined as it is placed in two dimensional compositional space by form that is surrounded by interchangeable depth
Object Oriented Role Modeling and Group Support Systems
The design and development of Group Support Systems (GSS) is a complex endeavor. The long term usefulness of these systems can only be as good as their design. Sound design principles demand the adoption of a systematic methodology that matches the system design objectives. The focus of this paper is the use of Object-Orientation as a modeling technology for designing GSSs. We present a brief overview of popular Object-Oriented (OO) analysis and design methodologies, and argue in favor of a methodology that allows the description of phenomenon of interest in the form of role models [10] -an abstraction well suited to capturing the essence of collaborative wor
Beginning design process: Subject to object
Beyond the act of building, the architect is responsible for assembling a collection of inanimate objects - bricks, window units, etc - and with those basic tools create form and space that are expressible to the human spirit. The first architecture design studio is the initial opportunity to explore these actions of design, with the applied framework of a concept to guide the process. The issue of concept, as a generator of design actions, is elusive and somewhat difficult to explain to the beginning design student. In this first year design studio, we offer a two stage process that allows the student to understand the necessary abstraction (essence) and the necessary application of concept (substance) in the design of architecture.Architectur
Computer Science and Metaphysics: A Cross-Fertilization
Computational philosophy is the use of mechanized computational techniques to
unearth philosophical insights that are either difficult or impossible to find
using traditional philosophical methods. Computational metaphysics is
computational philosophy with a focus on metaphysics. In this paper, we (a)
develop results in modal metaphysics whose discovery was computer assisted, and
(b) conclude that these results work not only to the obvious benefit of
philosophy but also, less obviously, to the benefit of computer science, since
the new computational techniques that led to these results may be more broadly
applicable within computer science. The paper includes a description of our
background methodology and how it evolved, and a discussion of our new results.Comment: 39 pages, 3 figure
Review of O. Linnebo Philosophy of Mathematics
In this review, as well as discussing the pedagogical of this text book, I also discuss Linnebo's approach to the Caesar problem and the use of metaphysical notions to explicate mathematics
Grounds and Structural Realism: A Possible Metaphysical Framework
This article discusses the proposal of accommodating grounding theories and structural realism, with the aim to provide a metaphysical framework for structural realism. Ontic structural realism, one of the most accepted metaphysical versions for structural realism, is taken into account here, with the intention of analyzing the framework in which GT and OSR are compatible, and to what extent
