    REMOTE MONITORING OF VITAL SIGNS

    Get PDF
In this project, our goal is to design a wireless sensor system, which can monitor user's vital signs and notifies medical personnel. . During health emergencies, there is little tolerance for system errors and poor usability designs. Clinical and technological efforts are being directed to focus on post surgery concerns to enhance the safety of the patients during this vulnerable period. This system will consist of a monitoring device, data transmission and the monitoring station. The proposed device will be asked to measure the blood pressure of the patients. Data will be transmitted using Hyperterminal and RS 232 into PC and the development the GUI will be based on LAB VIEW. This system shall facilitate communication between patients and medical professionals from distant locations

A wireless method for monitoring medication compliance

There are many devices on the market to help remind patients to take their pills, but most require observation by a caregiver to assure medication compliance. This project demonstrates three modes to detect pill removal from a pillbox: a switch under the pills, a reflective type photointerrupter and a transmissive electric eye photosensor. Each mode exhibited blind spots or other failures to detect pill presence, but by combining modes with complementary characteristics, the accuracy of pill detection is greatly increased. Two methods of caregiver notification are demonstrated: text messages transmitted via an attached cellular phone, or the status is collected by a PC which provides an audit trail and daily notification if no pills were taken

The majority of the growing population, in the US and the rest of the world requires some degree of formal and or informal care either due to the loss of function or failing health as a result of aging and most of them suffer from chronic disorders. The cost and burden of caring for elders is steadily increasing. This thesis focuses on providing the analysis of the technologies with which a Smart Home is built to improve the quality of life of the elderly. A great deal of emphasis is given to the sensor technologies that are the back bone of these Smart Homes. In addition to the Analysis of these technologies a survey of commercial sensor products and products in research that are concerned with monitoring the health of the occupants of the Smart Home is presented. A brief analysis on the communication technologies which form the communication infrastructure for the Smart Home is also illustrated. Finally, System Architecture for the Smart Home is proposed describing the functionality and users of the system. The feasibility of the system is also discussed. A scenario measuring the blood glucose level of the occupant in a Smart Home is presented as to support the system architecture presented

The internet of things (IoT) is the communication of everything with anything else, with the primary goal of data transfer over a network. Raspberry Pi, a low-cost computer device with minimal energy consumption is employed in IoT applications designed to accomplish many of the same tasks as a normal desktop computer. Raspberry Pi is a quad-core computer with parallel processing capabilities that may be used to speed up computations and processes. The Raspberry Pi is an extremely useful and promising technology that offers portability, parallelism, low cost, and low power consumption, making it ideal for IoT applications. In this article, the authors provide an overview of IoT and Raspberry Pi and research on IoT applications using Raspberry Pi in various fields, including transportation, agriculture, and medicine. This article will outline the details of several research publications on Raspberry Pi-based IoT applications
