    Object Tracking from Audio and Video data using Linear Prediction method

    Microphone arrays and video surveillance by camera are widely used for detection and tracking of a moving speaker. In this project, object tracking was planned using multimodal fusion i.e., Audio-Visual perception. Source localisation can be done by GCC-PHAT, GCC-ML for time delay estimation delay estimation. These methods are based on spectral content of the speech signals that can be effected by noise and reverberation. Video tracking can be done using Kalman filter or Particle filter. Therefore Linear Prediction method is used for audio and video tracking. Linear prediction in source localisation use features related to excitation source information of speech which are less effected by noise. Hence by using this excitation source information, time delays are estimated and the results are compared with GCC PHAT method. The dataset obtained from [20] is used in video tracking a single moving object captured through stationary camera. Then for object detection, projection histogram is done followed by linear prediction for tracking and the corresponding results are compared with Kalman filter method

    MMpred: functional miRNA – mRNA interaction analyses by miRNA expression prediction

    Background: MicroRNA (miRNA) directed gene repression is an important mechanism of posttranscriptional regulation. Comprehensive analyses of how microRNA influence biological processes requires paired miRNA-mRNA expression datasets. However, a review of both GEO and ArrayExpress repositories revealed few such datasets, which was in stark contrast to the large number of messenger RNA (mRNA) only datasets. It is of interest that numerous primary miRNAs (precursors of microRNA) are known to be co-expressed with coding genes (host genes). Results: We developed a miRNA-mRNA interaction analyses pipeline. The proposed solution is based on two miRNA expression prediction methods – a scaling function and a linear model. Additionally, miRNA-mRNA anticorrelation analyses are used to determine the most probable miRNA gene targets (i.e. the differentially expressed genes under the influence of up- or down-regulated microRNA). Both the consistency and accuracy of the prediction method is ensured by the application of stringent statistical methods. Finally, the predicted targets are subjected to functional enrichment analyses including GO, KEGG and DO, to better understand the predicted interactions. Conclusions: The MMpred pipeline requires only mRNA expression data as input and is independent of third party miRNA target prediction methods. The method passed extensive numerical validation based on the binding energy between the mature miRNA and 3’ UTR region of the target gene. We report that MMpred is capable of generating results similar to that obtained using paired datasets. For the reported test cases we generated consistent output and predicted biological relationships that will help formulate further testable hypotheses

    Motion estimation algorithms are used in various video coding systems. While focusing on the testing of ME in a video coding system, this work presents an error detection and data recovery (EDDR) design, based on the residue-andquotient (RQ) code, to embed into ME for video coding testing applications. An error in processing elements (PEs), i.e. key components of a ME, can be detected and recovered effectively by using the proposed EDDR design. Therefore, paper describes a novel testing scheme of motion estimation. The key part of this scheme is to offer high reliability for motion estimation architecture. The experimental result shows the design achieve 100% fault coverage. And, the main advantages of this scheme are minimal performance degradation, small cost of hardware overhead and the benefit of at speed testing

    Sentiment Classification using Machine Learning: A Survey

    The World Wide Web has brought a new way of expressing the reactions of people about any product, things, and topics, etc. The sentiment Analysis of written textual content on the web is one of the text mining areas used to find out sentiments in a given text. The process of sentiment analysis is a task of detecting, extracting and classifying critiques and sentiments expressed in texts. Twitter is also a medium with the huge amount of information wherein users can view the opinion of other users that labeled into different sentiment classes such as positive, negative, and neutral and are increasingly more developing as a key element in decision making. ?Till now, there are few extraordinary problems predominating in this research community, namely, sentiment classification, feature-based classification and dealing with negations. This paper presents a survey covering the strategies and techniques of sentiment classification and demanding situations appear within the area.

    A Survey of Cellular Automata: Types, Dynamics, Non-uniformity and Applications

    Cellular automata (CAs) are dynamical systems which exhibit complex global behavior from simple local interaction and computation. Since the inception of cellular automaton (CA) by von Neumann in 1950s, it has attracted the attention of several researchers over various backgrounds and fields for modelling different physical, natural as well as real-life phenomena. Classically, CAs are uniform. However, non-uniformity has also been introduced in update pattern, lattice structure, neighborhood dependency and local rule. In this survey, we tour to the various types of CAs introduced till date, the different characterization tools, the global behaviors of CAs, like universality, reversibility, dynamics etc. Special attention is given to non-uniformity in CAs and especially to non-uniform elementary CAs, which have been very useful in solving several real-life problems.Comment: 43 pages; Under review in Natural Computin

    Cost modelling and concurrent engineering for testable design

    This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and awarded by Brunel University.As integrated circuits and printed circuit boards increase in complexity, testing becomes a major cost factor of the design and production of the complex devices. Testability has to be considered during the design of complex electronic systems, and automatic test systems have to be used in order to facilitate the test. This fact is now widely accepted in industry. Both design for testability and the usage of automatic test systems aim at reducing the cost of production testing or, sometimes, making it possible at all. Many design for testability methods and test systems are available which can be configured into a production test strategy, in order to achieve high quality of the final product. The designer has to select from the various options for creating a test strategy, by maximising the quality and minimising the total cost for the electronic system. This thesis presents a methodology for test strategy generation which is based on consideration of the economics during the life cycle of the electronic system. This methodology is a concurrent engineering approach which takes into account all effects of a test strategy on the electronic system during its life cycle by evaluating its related cost. This objective methodology is used in an original test strategy planning advisory system, which allows for test strategy planning for VLSI circuits as well as for digital electronic systems. The cost models which are used for evaluating the economics of test strategies are described in detail and the test strategy planning system is presented. A methodology for making decisions which are based on estimated costing data is presented. Results of using the cost models and the test strategy planning system for evaluating the economics of test strategies for selected industrial designs are presented
