Quantitative Temporal Logics: PSpace and below
Often the addition of metric operators to qualitative temporal logics leads to an increase of the complexity of satisfiability by at least one exponential. In this paper, we exhibit a number of metric extensions of qualitative temporal logics of the real line that do not lead to an increase in computational complexity. The main result states that the language obtained by extending since/until logic of the real line with the operators 'sometime within n time units', n coded in binary, is PSpace-complete even without the finite variability assumption. Without qualitative temporal operators the complexity of this language turns out to depend on whether binary or unary coding of parameters is assumed: it is still PSpace-hard under binary coding but in NP under unary coding
Quantitative Regular Expressions for Arrhythmia Detection Algorithms
Motivated by the problem of verifying the correctness of arrhythmia-detection
algorithms, we present a formalization of these algorithms in the language of
Quantitative Regular Expressions. QREs are a flexible formal language for
specifying complex numerical queries over data streams, with provable runtime
and memory consumption guarantees. The medical-device algorithms of interest
include peak detection (where a peak in a cardiac signal indicates a heartbeat)
and various discriminators, each of which uses a feature of the cardiac signal
to distinguish fatal from non-fatal arrhythmias. Expressing these algorithms'
desired output in current temporal logics, and implementing them via monitor
synthesis, is cumbersome, error-prone, computationally expensive, and sometimes
infeasible.
In contrast, we show that a range of peak detectors (in both the time and
wavelet domains) and various discriminators at the heart of today's
arrhythmia-detection devices are easily expressible in QREs. The fact that one
formalism (QREs) is used to describe the desired end-to-end operation of an
arrhythmia detector opens the way to formal analysis and rigorous testing of
these detectors' correctness and performance. Such analysis could alleviate the
regulatory burden on device developers when modifying their algorithms. The
performance of the peak-detection QREs is demonstrated by running them on real
patient data, on which they yield results on par with those provided by a
cardiologist.Comment: CMSB 2017: 15th Conference on Computational Methods for Systems

A Note on Parameterised Knowledge Operations in Temporal Logic
We consider modeling the conception of knowledge in terms of temporal logic.
The study of knowledge logical operations is originated around 1962 by
representation of knowledge and belief using modalities. Nowadays, it is very
good established area. However, we would like to look to it from a bit another
point of view, our paper models knowledge in terms of linear temporal logic
with {\em past}. We consider various versions of logical knowledge operations
which may be defined in this framework. Technically, semantics, language and
temporal knowledge logics based on our approach are constructed. Deciding
algorithms are suggested, unification in terms of this approach is commented.
This paper does not offer strong new technical outputs, instead we suggest new
approach to conception of knowledge (in terms of time).Comment: 10 page
State-of-the-art on evolution and reactivity
This report starts by, in Chapter 1, outlining aspects of querying and updating resources on
the Web and on the Semantic Web, including the development of query and update languages
to be carried out within the Rewerse project.
From this outline, it becomes clear that several existing research areas and topics are of
interest for this work in Rewerse. In the remainder of this report we further present state of
the art surveys in a selection of such areas and topics. More precisely: in Chapter 2 we give
an overview of logics for reasoning about state change and updates; Chapter 3 is devoted to briefly describing existing update languages for the Web, and also for updating logic programs;
in Chapter 4 event-condition-action rules, both in the context of active database systems and
in the context of semistructured data, are surveyed; in Chapter 5 we give an overview of some relevant rule-based agents frameworks
Real-time and Probabilistic Temporal Logics: An Overview
Over the last two decades, there has been an extensive study on logical
formalisms for specifying and verifying real-time systems. Temporal logics have
been an important research subject within this direction. Although numerous
logics have been introduced for the formal specification of real-time and
complex systems, an up to date comprehensive analysis of these logics does not
exist in the literature. In this paper we analyse real-time and probabilistic
temporal logics which have been widely used in this field. We extrapolate the
notions of decidability, axiomatizability, expressiveness, model checking, etc.
for each logic analysed. We also provide a comparison of features of the
temporal logics discussed
