    Temporal self-attention network for medical concept embedding

In longitudinal electronic health records (EHRs), the event records of a patient are distributed over a long period of time and the temporal relations between the events reflect sufficient domain knowledge to benefit prediction tasks such as the rate of inpatient mortality. Medical concept embedding as a feature extraction method that transforms a set of medical concepts with a specific time stamp into a vector, which will be fed into a supervised learning algorithm. The quality of the embedding significantly determines the learning performance over the medical data. In this paper, we propose a medical concept embedding method based on applying a self-attention mechanism to represent each medical concept. We propose a novel attention mechanism which captures the contextual information and temporal relationships between medical concepts. A light-weight neural net, 'Temporal Self-Attention Network (TeSAN)', is then proposed to learn medical concept embedding based solely on the proposed attention mechanism. To test the effectiveness of our proposed methods, we have conducted clustering and prediction tasks on two public EHRs datasets comparing TeSAN against five state-of-the-art embedding methods. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed TeSAN model is superior to all the compared methods.     Garbanzo : usos alternativos para generar valor agregado al descarte

(Area de Consolidación Gestión de la Producción de Agroalimentos)--UNC- Facultad de Ciencias Agropecuarias, 2014.Ante el rápido crecimiento de la población mundial y la capacidad finita de la tierra para producir alimentos, el tema de la alimentación es una necesidad básica para la humanidad en los principales ámbitos de gestión. Entre los posibles cultivos a desarrollar como fuente de alimento, el garbanzo constituye una muy buena alternativa como cultivo invernal en Argentina, permitiendo el desarrollo de las economías regionales y generando fuentes de trabajo en el interior del país. Además, desde el punto de vista nutricional se destaca su alto contenido en proteínas, la adecuada proporción de grasas, y su contenido en hidratos de carbono que lo posiciona como una excelente opción alimenticia. El 90% de la producción de esta legumbre se exporta como grano seco, sólo con un procesamiento de selección. En vista de esto y ante la falta de elaboración de subproductos se plantea en este trabajo analizar diferentes procesos de industrialización que permitan darle un mayor valor agregado, convirtiendo al país en proveedor de productos agropecuarios elaborados de alta calidad, posicionándose de manera estratégica en el mercado internacional

    Parameter setting and statistical learning

    Three main models of parameter setting have been proposed: the Variational model proposed by Yang (2002; 2004), the Structured Acquisition model endorsed by Baker (2001; 2005), and the Very Early Parameter Setting (VEPS) model advanced by Wexler (1998). The VEPS model contends that parameters are set early. The Variational model supposes that children employ statistical learning mechanisms to decide among competing parameter values, so this model anticipates delays in parameter setting when critical input is sparse, and gradual setting of parameters. On the Structured Acquisition model, delays occur because parameters form a hierarchy, with higher-level parameters set before lower-level parameters. Assuming that children freely choose the initial value, children sometimes will miss-set parameters. However when that happens, the input is expected to trigger a precipitous rise in one parameter value and a corresponding decline in the other value. We will point to the kind of child language data that is needed in order to adjudicate among these competing models

    Keragaan Beberapa Varietas Padi (Oryza spp) pada Kondisi Cekaman Kekeringan dan Salinitas

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keragaan pertumbuhan dan kemampuan berproduksi lima varietas tanaman padi yang ditanam pada kondisi cekaman kekeringan dan salinitas. Penelitian dilaksanakan di rumah kaca kebun percobaan Tri Dharma Fakultas Pertanian UGM.Penelitian terdiri atas tiga faktor yang disusun dalam Rancangan Acak Lengkap dengan tiga ulangan untuk uji lapangan dan empat ulangan untuk uji perkecambahan. Lima varietas padi, yaitu L. Kuning, L. Tesan, Ramos, Anak Daro dan Lumbuk sebagai faktor pertama. Kadar garam 0 mM, 100 mM, 200 mM dan 300 mM sebagai faktor kedua dan faktor ketiga adalah frekuensi penyiraman, yaitu dua, empat dan enam hari sekali. Pada uji perkecambahan faktor ketiga adalah konsentrasi PEG, yaitu 0 %, 20 % dan 40 %.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tidak terdapat interaksi yang nyata antara ketiga faktor. Terdapat interaksi yang nyata antara varietas dengan kadar garam pada sifat panjang akar utama, berat kering akar, berat kering tajuk, rasio akar tajuk dan tinggi tanaman. Terdapat interaksi nyata antara varietas dengan frekuensi penyiraman pada sifat jumlah malai, rasio akar tajuk dan jumlah anakan. Terdapat beda nyata antar varietas pada sifat tinggi tanaman, panjang akar utama, jumlah malai, panjang malai, berat kering akar, berat kering tajuk, rasio akar tajuk, jumlah anakan, berat 100 biji, dan umur berbunga. Dari kelima varietas yang digunakan, varietas yang cenderung tahan dari cekaman kekeringan dan garam adalah varietas Anak Daro karena memiliki nilai terbaik pada sifat panjang akar utama, berat kering akar, jumlah anakan, berat kering akar, berat kering tanaman, rasio akar tajuk dan mempunyai umur tanaman mati paling lama

    Tratamento ortodôntico de dentes tratados endodonticamente: revisão narrativa

    Objetivo: Avaliar a probabilidade de reabsorção radicular decorrente do tratamento ortodôntico em dente tratados endodonticamente comparativamente com dentes vitais. Método: Pesquisa bibliográfica no PubMed, utilizando combinações de palavras-chave com o operador booleano AND. Dez artigos foram selecionados após triagem e estabelecimento dos critérios de inclusão e exclusão. Resultados: Dois tipos de resultados foram encontrados, não existe uma diferença estatisticamente significativa de reabsorção radicular entre dentes vitais e dentes tratados endodonticamente. Conclusão: Para responder a incidência de reabsorção radicular após o tratamento ortodôntico entre dentes com e sem tratamento endodôntico, os estudos na literatura têm limitações e os resultados são múltiplos. Dentro das limitações impostas na revisão podemos concluir que os dentes vitais parecem mais suscetíveis à reabsorção radicular.Objective: To assess the likelihood of root resorption resulting from orthodontic treatment in endodontically treated teeth compared with vital teeth. Method: Bibliographic search in PubMed, using combinations of keywords with the Boolean operator AND. Ten articles were selected after screening and establishing inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: Two types of results were found, there is no statistically significant difference of root resorption between vital teeth and endodontically treated teeth. Conclusion: To answer the incidence of root resorption after orthodontic treatment between teeth with and without endodontic treatment, the studies in the literature have limitations and the results are multiple. Within the limitations imposed in the review we can conclude that vital teeth seem more susceptible to root resorption
